Carnations for January

Hi.  Did you know that the carnation is the flower for January?

I didn't.  But I do now.

I bought the Flower of the Month Collection from Papertrey Ink a couple few years ago.

I decided that I needed to us it this year.

We did this card in my January class.  I discovered an easy way to add watercolor to the background.

After stamping and heat embossing the script stamp, we dipped a baby wipe
into the ink squeezed into the lid of the inkpad and gently rubbed it
in a circular motion over the embossing.  It leaves a nice soft color
that dries very quickly.  We did use mixed media paper.
When I tried it with the Neena, it pilled.

The carnations were inked with markers and the color pulled into the
center of the petals and leaves with a Blender Pen.
We mixed media on this piece too.

At CAS Watercolour we are doing birthday cards this month.
There are so many gorgeous birthday cards in the gallery.
Hope to see yours there too!
Challenge closes on the 24th.

Thanks for the visit and special thanks for your comments.

Enjoy!

What a pretty little carnation stamp! I love how it looks framed with that arch die cut! I had seen the Papertrey Birth Flowers set when I was surfing the net last year. I can’t wait to see you use the rest of the set! Glad you are using your birth flowers stamps this year too!

Learned lots from your post - didn't know the carnation was January's flower, didn't know the technique with the baby wipe, and didn't know mixed media paper pills less than cs! And I love your honesty that you bought that stamp a few years ago but hadn't yet used it - I have some supplies like that too. Anyway - love your card with the soft script background and the more vibrant flower - perfect for a January birthday!

How beautifully you painted this, Bonnie. Love the soft pink on the card base behind the die cut over the white embossed script! Thanks for the tip on the baby wipe too. Sometimes it is hard to get that soft sponging and this sounds like a winner technique.
