I have been enjoying the One Layer Wednesday challenge on lateblossoms blog, Simplicity. This weeks challenge is to do Patriotic cards.
I'm ashamed to say but I don't have any patriotic stamps. Isn't that awful? But I really wanted to play so I thought and thought and the only thing I could think of was the star shape die to use with the Movers & Shapers and the BIG GUY.
Wanting to stick to one layer, although you can attach an embellishment, I opted to punch the star out of a piece of window sheet to use as a stencil.
I used a piece of sponge to apply Brilliant Blue ink in the star shape on a Naturals White card. (I smeared the first one and learned that I should leave more space around the cutout.)
I hand drew the square around the star with a Real Red marker. Then I stamped the Celebrate, from an old stamp set called Warm Words, in Brilliant Blue.
I finished it off with some silver stickies in the star to give it a little sparkle.
I'm going over to Susan't blog and post it for the challenge. I'm sure she would like to see yours too.
Happy Stampin' & Happy Independence Day.

Oh, awesome doodling! I thought it was a stamp!
ReplyDeleteI really love this Bonnie, just perfect in it's simplicity!!!
ReplyDeleteI love the hand drawn lines....fabulous card..even with the improvising...you DID it!!!
ReplyDeleteOh no, you and I had twin design ideas!!!!! But I'm too slow and haven't even started mine yet. Yours has much better doodling than I would have done, judging from my past efforts.
ReplyDeleteMy next job of the day is to hunt down someone from whom I can order Stampin' Up stuff, which is actually more fun than making a patriotic card anyway, so I'll go do that from here right now.
Love your hand-drawn squares, Bonnie. Perfect way to set off that star. With the sentiment and the bit of bling it's a very 4th of July-ish card. Good job and making it work even though you have no patriotic stamps!
ReplyDeleteIt turned out BEAUTIFULLY!!!
