This week the amazing Debbie chose our challenge.
I consider candy canes Christmas food.
And I had this stamp from the dollar bin at Michaels
that had been languishing on the Christmas shelf.
I don't think I'd used this sentiment before either.
2 NBUS in one card!

so I can join in Sarn's Rudolph Challenge.
She requires 2 Christmas cards.
And snow was a favorite Christmas food when I was a kid.
Snow you may ask?
My brother and I would go out on Christmas Eve and collect fresh, clean snow.
My Mom would boil maple syrup (the real stuff) to soft ball stage.
We would spoon the hot syrup over the snow.
The syrup would thicken and become chewy
and so sweet.
Mmmm! That was such a treat!
And since both of these have texture with the embossing, I'll go to

Card Recipe (card 1)
Stamps: Candy Canes (Michaels), All Holidays (retired)
Ink: Real Red, Garden Green
Paper: White 110# (Neena), Whisper White, Origami Paper (gift)
Other: Kars Snowfall EF (retired Cuttlebug), Simple Scored, Sequin
I stamped the image in red 3 times and green twice on the origami paper and cut everything out. I stacked 3 candy canes atop each other and added 2 layers of the bow.
I did the split embossing by placing painters tape on the embossing folder and running just to the tape. Turned it around and did the bottom the same way. I used the Simply Scored to score a line at the edge of the embossing.

Ink: Island Indigo
Paper: Whisper White, Island Indigo, Silver Glimmer
Other: Kars Snowfall EF (retired Cuttlebug), Snowflake Dies (Impression Obsession) and Snow Flurry Bigz Die (retired), Large Rhinestone

ReplyDeleteI absolutely love both of this cards, they are so beautiful, even if the Holidays are still a long way off, it's so sweet to see Christmas cards like these any time of the year.
I saw the recipe for this cards and the only thing I've never seen is that gorgeous Snow Fall embossing folder. I immediately went to look for it but no one seems to know about it or have it. There was one on Ebay but it was sold last July. Do you know if it's still available somewhere? I love it, looks like real snow flakes are falling, oh so pretty.
I hope you see this comment and you can give me some direction about this embossing folder.
Do you have an extra one? do you know of anyone who might have one and maybe sell it to me? I know it's to much to ask but I had to, I'm simply blown away by it.

ReplyDeleteBoth cards are wonderful! I love the how you did the embossing on the first card to leave an area un-embossed (so less layers - I'm always looking for ways to do that). On the second card, the colors are gorgeous - love that layered snowflake!

I also love, love the snowflake card, oh yes, so many people would love to eat snow with maple syrup!! I think lots of things were made with snow! lol although I'm not sure in today's day and age if I'd want to eat what is in the snow since they "seed" the clouds. ReplyDeleteLove the candy canes, boy that was a tricky MM challenge this week but my card is ready to go tomorrow.
And so funny about the flavoured snow - when I lived in Singapore as a kid we used to buy crushed ice snowballs covered in sugary neon coloured syrup from street traders (when our Mum's weren't aware as there were no real hygiene rules). I think snow would have been much more safe to be honest :))
