Scarlet Majesty for NBUS Challenge

Hello, my friends.

I have another Christmas card for you to take a peek at.

This is not the first try!

Let's put it this way, I'm glad there's 2 sides to the paper!

I tried to splatter masking fluid and discovered that I need more practice at that.

Lots more practice!

As you can see, there isn't any speckles.

What actually landed on the paper came off on my paint brush.

And I did wait til it was dry.

It wasn't fun picking those little goo balls of the brush.

I guess I pulled my brush too hard?

Anyway, this is a NBUS stamp that I just had to have last Christmas.

I'm finally getting around to using it.

I tried inking the stamp with markers and stamping.
My MISTI works wonderfully for this technique.

After playing with the first try, and failing,
I spritzed the stamp and stamped on another piece of mixed media paper.

Usually this doesn't work for me, but today it did!

Then, I worked some wet on wet wash around the image.

I thought about adding some splatters, but thought I'd better stop
and call it well enough.

I did brave stamping a sentiment.

Even with MISTI, I hold my breath when I add a sentiment!

The design piece is mounted on a piece of foam then to the card base.

The lovely Darnell is holding her

In case you haven't checked out her blog lately, she has given us
lots of laughs this week using cheeky sentiments.

Her challenge lasts until October 4 and this is my 2nd entry.

Thanks, my friend, for encouraging us to use those NBUS items we just had to have,
then forgot what we wanted to do with them!

Thanks for the visit and special thanks for your comments.

Enjoy!

  1. I had to HAVE this stamp last Christmas too, and guess what?? I haven't used it yet either! But yours came out beautiful Bonnie, even though there aren't any splatters on it! Your Poinsettia looks so pretty water colored and I love the background wash too! Lovely, lovely card my friend!! :0)

  2. You had me laughing with your description and I'm SO glad to hear your experience with masking fluid replicated mine! Now how Heather T gets those effects is beyond me but white splatter or not, this turned out fantastic! You have some wonderful shading in your petals, again not easy to achieve. Sigh, someday I'll make friends with watercolor but in the meantime, I'll just enjoy your work.

  3. Well, this card gave you a run for your money, didn't it Bon-Bon?! I hate it when that happens, but gosh, it was worth it! This is gorgeous! I wonder how many years I've lost on my life with all the breath-holding I've done since I started stamping, haha! Thank goodness your sediment worked perfectly!! Thank you for boosting my challenge and playing again, my friend! Hugs, Dolly

  9. I had similar problems recently with liquid frisket - and didn't get the effect I wanted. So I agree - more practice!! But your card is beautiful and perfect without the splatters - wonderful watercolouring and perfectly placed sentiment.

  11. I adore this gorgeous bright and pretty poinsettia image and you have used the straight to stamp inking technique beautifully Bonnie, and great with or without the spatters. I have quite often turned the paper over and started again and I too definitely need more practice with spattering. x
