Something New for Me

Hello.

I tried something new to me last week.

A group of us went to a wine and paint get together and it was so much fun!

This was my project.

I'd like a redo as I think I could do a lot better.

I think I needed a second glass of wine.

The instructor told us to step back and we'd like our painting better.

He's right.  It looks much better from across a room.

A large room!

LOL, my birches look like they've been in a mud fight!

We used acrylic paint and a lot of it was metallic gold so it has quite a shine.

If you live in the Raleigh area, try Pinot's Palette in Apex.
Not only are they fun and helpful, but they donated a portion of
our charge to the charity our club is sponsoring this year.

I think we should do it again!

Maybe I'll spring for that second glass of wine!

Thanks for the visit and special thanks for your comments.

Enjoy!

  1. AWESOME!! You did an amazing job Bonnie. LOVE the background ... looks like there is lots of depth to the picture with a lovely forest in the background. Your birch trees are very realistic, and love the bright red flowers at the base of the trees. Sounds like a fun night with friends. Looking forward to your painting! xx

  2. Bonnie, this is awesome. I think you did a great job. It's funny how they look better from a distance. I have been taking a Kit & Clowder Copics class and that is what Alyce says, look from a distance. And it does improve.

  3. I think you did a great job Bonnie! Everything is recognizable in your painting which is more than I can say if I were to try this! I'd probably need more than 1 or 2 glasses of wine too! Seriously though, this turned out really pretty and yes, it is fun to try new things and especially when you're with a group of friends...glad you had fun!! :0)

  4. Wow Bonnie, I'm so impressed. I'm not sure how I do after the wine, but thinking about it may be better than with out. I be you had so much fun, your painting looks fantastic :)

  5. Well I love the artzy look you have here Bonnie. Your birch trees are perfect. Love the muddy look hehe. Fabulous piece with so much colour and depth. It would look so good hanging on a wall.

  6. What a fun idea the winery had! I think you did a great job, especially with the birch trees. The background is very pretty and the red just brightens up the ground. Go again and have that second glass.

  8. Wow..Bonnie, I am so impressed!! How large is your painting? I can't imagine you getting an entire painting finished in one sitting and with a glass of wine to boot! Your birch trees have wonderful highlights (not mud) and I love your forest in the background and red flowers that add so much color and depth.

Thank you so much for sharing, my friend. What a fun evening with your girlfriends. Can't wait to see more in the future. Hugs..

  9. Sounds like a lot of fun for a group outing. I think your painting looks good -- more like a miracle if I were trying to do it (smiley face). I think you have a lot of natural talent, and I have learned a lot from following your card blog. You go, girl!!

  11. Don't sell yourself short Bonnie, it is lovely. I am not a wine drinker but if there was a guacamole and margarita get-together I would be happy.

  12. This is fabulous! Hope we see more. If I had a glass of wine while I was painting...I would probably have a difficult time even finding the easel!

  13. I love painting birch trees, Bonnie, and yours look great. You have a much freer hand with your painting strokes and the sun shining on the background trees really lights up those leaves.

  14. WOW! This is fabulous Bonnie, and although I enjoyed the humor of your description, I sure don't see a "mud fight." You DREW this? That alone is impressive and I do love the shading on this. I can't even imagine trying it. I'm envious of that class too- hmmm, wine and painting. Sounds SO interesting and fun and the results are fabulous!

  16. Now this is just simply AWESOME! Firstly, these are my favorite types of trees, and you've rendered them really well. I like the red underbrush, which certainly sparks the golden background. Looks like you've got lovely white spring flowers floating down in the breeze. You did a splendid effort on this, with or without the wine! Maybe I should try the wine, does it help with the watercoloring?! I think this would be gorgeous from any distance. TFS & Hugs

  18. Bonnie, I'm very impressed! I cannot draw or paint anything free-hand. Mind you, I've never tried after a glass (or two as you suggest trying next time) of wine. It must have been fun!

  19. Sounds like you had a great time, Bonnie! I've seen a wine and paint group/company on TV last year, and you actually tried that. How cool!!
Your birch trees look realistic and the soft and shiny background is so beautiful. Looking forward to more of your adventure! Hideko :-)

  21. Now firstly I had to read the third line down twice...a wine and paint get together...now that sounds lots of fun. I would love that get together and clearly you had lots of fun. You are an artist my friend, so creative and absolutely amazing. No need to stand back for this one, pop it up on the wall Bonnie x To finish....Have the second glass of wine next time but not because it would improve this work of art but just because you can!! x

  22. You are far too critical Bonnie - your painting is wonderful and that was my first thought before I even read you post. But I am not one bit surprised that you are so talented!

  23. I don't know what you could have did better Bonnie, as I think it is near perfect! Your birch trees look amazing and not like they were in a mud fight. lol You are to hard on yourself! I did one of these-no wine though, maybe that is what I needed, right after Dwayne passed. My SIL took me to our local high school as they were raising money for a trip. It was so much fun and I would love to do it again sometime. I definitely think you need to do another one! Hugs, Brenda

  24. Yay! I've been saying for a couple of years that you needed to get your talent on canvas, Bon-Bon!! Your birch painting is wall-worthy!! We have those wine and paint establishments out here, too, but I have yet to give them a try! Hugs, Dolly

  26. I do not understand why you have reservations for these beautiful boats? They are great, the picture has incredible lightness. I love how you caught the beauty of autumn in the imagee.
