Turning the Page August 2018

Tomorrow we turn the page on our calendars to a new month.

I make calendars each year and I've been sporadic about sharing them with you so

I thought I'd set up a regular post on the last day of each month "Turning the Page".

I hope you enjoy these posts.

By the way, the calendars are clipped together and can be displayed on an easel

or hung on a push pin or magnetic hook.  We all have a different way to display them.

Rainbow Thank You

Hello friends.  I'm so glad you stopped by.

A sweet friend gave me this Thank You die last year and I think it's

about time I got around to using it!

I'm in need of some thank you cards so it was a good time to break the

die out of the NBUS box!

I've die cut from black cardstock and white cardstock.

On this card, I inlaid the black die cut into the white out cut.

Or it is cut out?  I'm always confused as to which is which.

I've mounted it on a background piece that I had pressed

a paper that had been used to mop up some rainbow colors.

I spritzed the towel and laid it on a piece of cardstock.

I thought this little butterfly looked nice on the rainbow circle.

Here's another card using this die.

This time I layered white cardstock die cuts and kept the circle and embossed it.

The rainbow was done by smooshing ink on a 1 1/2" x 4" acrylic block,

spritzing and stamping on watercolor paper.

I used a frame and some foam on the back of the design as well

as a few sequins to finish off the card.

July Flower - Larkspur

Hello friends and welcome.

I'm still hanging in there with this Year of Flowers Collection.

This month's flower is Larkspur.

I've inked the stamp with Distress markers, stamped onto linen textured cardstock

and used a damp water brush to move the ink a bit.

Instead of splattering, I used the small end of a Festive Berries 

Distress Marker to add some random dots.

I die cut with my Double Pierced Rectangle die and inlaid the 

design piece inside the frame.

By adding this to a dark card base and placing the frame on foam,

 I get a bit of color peeking around the inside piece.

This particular flower is one of my favorites in the set.

And there have been a lot of July birthdays on my calendar!

Flower Stem Collage in Monochrome

Hello friends.  I'm so glad you could stop by today!

I have a very simple CAS card to share today.

I've die cut this beautiful Floral Stem Collage from a piece of Neenah
and popped it over a background that's been splashed into
 Brusho crystals spritzed with water on my craft sheet.

I shaped the top layer of flower a bit and added a matching candy dot to the center.

Red Delight for CAS Christmas

Hello Friend. I'm glad you could stop by.

There's still a week left to join in at CAS Christmas 

where Loll has chosen our challenge.

The Design Team along with our fantastic Guest Designer, Marina (My Perfect Life)

have some beautiful poinsettias to share with you at

the challenge site.

The AAA Card Challenge  is

To make this card I used a Penny Black Brushstroke stamp 

placed it in my MISTI and inked it up with mini ink pads and markers.

First I stamped with Spun Sugar, went over the ink with a damp

waterbrush and stamped again.

I repeated this using Festive Berries ink.

When I was pretty well satisfied with the petals, I inked the stem with

a Peeled Paint marker then edged the stem with Pine Needles.

I pulled color out of the flower for the wash, then dropped in

a bit of Twisted Citron ink smooshed on my palette and picked up

with a wet water brush.

Finally, I inked the petal details with a Barn Door marker,

stamped and blended.

I used a Stitched Arch Die to cut the image

and a larger die from the same set for the frame.

The top die cut layer is on foam for added dimension.

Water Floral Splash for CAS Watercolour

Hello friend.  I'm so glad you could stop by today.

I'm here today to remind you that there's still time to make a splash

at CAS Watercolour!

Nancy is hosting this month and she's asked us to use the splash watercolor technique.

Sadly, this is Nancy's last Design Team challenge.  We have so enjoyed having her on 

the team and she's added so much inspiration to all of us on the team and our followers.

Fortunately for us she will still be in our CAS family as a Designer on the CAS Mix Up team.

My color was done with Brushos sprinkled on my craft sheet and spritzed 

with water and pounced my paper into the puddle.

I borrowed a friends stamp that's called Water Floral to stamp

on this piece that looked like water to me.

More Fun Coloring Die Cuts for CAS Mix Up

Hello friends! It's hard to believe the month is half over!

There's just over a week to color your die cuts and enter at CAS Mix Up.

Using Distress Crayons, die cuts, stamping, heat embossing and dry embossing.

I'm hosting the challenge this month.

I had fun coloring this die cut with my Distress Crayons.

The color spread smoothly on cardstock with my finger.

I wet my finger with a baby wipe occasionally to help the color move easier.

Details were added with Polychromos Pencils.

I popped the poppies in a die cut frame with a snippet of

an embossed piece in the background.

I should have colored the buds in green but did them in red.

Trying to go over them with green didn't work great.

Oh well.

There are video links at the challenge site to show

different ways to color your die cuts.

The gallery is full of awesome colored die cuts too.

The challenge is open until the 24th.

Watercolor Layered Design for CAS Mix Up

I've had such fun with this die cut!

I did the reverse on this post.

This time I die cut from mixed media paper and watercolored

using Distress Markers, a palette and a water brush

Once the coloring was done and dry, it was easy to pop it on

to a dry embossed piece and finish it up.

Twofer Guest Designing

Hello friends.  I'm so glad you could stop by today!

Today I'm honored and excited to be Guest Designing for
Twofer Card Challenge

This month's prompt is

 

and my Twofer

  

Both of my cards use the What's in Your Cup die set from Penny Black.

My glass was die cut from acetate with the mug die.

The lemonade was die cut with the same die from a piece of watercolor

 and it's cut down a bit and coated with Wink of Stella

 so it shimmers with the cold.

I cut the handles off to make it look more like a glass.

The lemon slice is a little punched circle colored up with markers.

Ice cubes cut from glimmer paper finish off the frosty look.

I found a piece of dirty pour canvas paper that I thought looked very tropical

for the background.

The design is popped up on a piece of foam.

For my twofer, I have a hot beverage.

I'm going with a hot cappuccino with whipped cream on top as a Christmas card.

I've die cut the mug, stamped some snowflakes with Versamark and heat embossed them.

That acted as a resist when I sponged color over the mug.

The drink mat is an oval watercolored with the same ink as the sentiment.

I added a little color to the stitched die cut by splashing color on it

and put the design on a piece of plaid decorative paper.

Since I've colored my die cut  on my second card, I'll drop this off at

CAS Mix Up

I've used colored die cuts, emboss resist, sponging and stamping.

Fluffy Flamingo

I have another flamingo card to share with you.

This time I used the Color Layering Flamingo by Hero Arts.

I was impressed with how well the layers stamped and fit together.

I'd like to try more of a watercolor look but that will

have to wait until another day.

I had bought a bag of pink feathers thinking they'd be 

fun to use on flamingos.  This was about the smallest in the bag.

If I  make more, I'll have to find some smaller feathers.

Pink Poinsettia for CAS Christmas

It's time for another challenge at CAS Christmas.

Loll is hosting our challenge this month.

The Design team is joined by a fabulous Guest Designer,

Marina (My Perfect Life).

I love this Spellbinder Layered Poinsettia die!

I've die cut from watercolor paper and used Worn Lipstick DOX ink

to watercolor the poinsettia and Pine Needles DI 

to watercolor the leaves.

The pine sprigs die cuts were extras tucked in with the dies.

I added a bit more color and arranged it on this

two piece frame.  There's a piece of vellum behind the frame

to soften the background a bit.

I stamped the sentiment in gray instead of black

to pair with the soft color of the flower.

Since I've colored my die cuts, I'll add this to the gallery at

CAS Mix Up
