I hope you have a fun weekend planned.
A few weeks ago we had a stamp show in Raleigh and I let myself be
talked into buying some shimmery sprays.
The sprays are really pretty, but the sprayer has a love/hate relationship with sprays!
I did a make and take at the show and used the sprays and it went okay.
Maybe we were using magic spray bottles there?
The ones I bought don't work as well or maybe I'm just afraid of them.
But I pulled out a stencil, sprayed some Pixie spray on the back (which worked out
really well), put it all in my spray box and sprayed away.
The sticky back of the stencil really helped to keep it in place so the color
didn't run underneath, but I can't say I got a very even spray job.
I think I need to keep trying.
Anyway, I cut a piece out of the stenciling and put it on a card for
this month's CAS Stencil Challenge which is hosted by Robyn
Maybe I'll get a chance for a redo.
And maybe I'll be really glad I only bought two bottles of shimmer spray.
The base of the butterfly was die cut with a piece of paper towel used to mop up Brushos.
I die cut a snippet of card stock to glue it to then popped the white top layer on.
The butterfly was inspired by Chrissie's butterfly here. (Scroll down a bit for the butterfly.)
I'll add it to the gallery at CAS Mix Up
and at CAS Watercolour
I'm hoping that snippet for the butterfly is enough to get me into
Pixie's Snippet Playground.
Thanks for the visit and special thanks for your comments.
Enjoy!

I am not always sure this technique of spraying through a stencil needs a crisp edge Bonnie. I think it depends on the style of the stencil and the style of the card design.
ReplyDeleteSo with that in mind I think you have done a fabulous job with the technique and it looks unique and eye catching and what beautiful colours.
Love the very pretty butterfly and the wave of the sentiment giving movement to your fabulous card. Keep buying the sprays my friend x.
I think you did a great job with your sprays, Bonnie! I love how it adds so much texture to your design! I'm also afraid of my sprays...I've had a few unused bottles in my stash for years :) Your Brusho base on the butterfly is also very pretty and your swirly sentiment adds great movement to your beautiful card! So happy you joined us for the challenge at CAS Stencil ~ xx
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely Beautiful.

I think your card turned out absolutely BEAUTIFUL Bonnie...the fact that the background is not even just makes it look more artsy and like you planned it that way! LOVE it!! :0)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful card. I love the sentiment, too. [Bunny]
ReplyDeleteI think the sprayed background looks fantastic Bonnie, gorgeous colours and perfect with that pretty butterfly, Cathy x
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful, Bonnie. Love the colours and CAS design. And don’t know or see what problems you are talking about because sprayed stencil background looks incredible. xx
ReplyDeleteBonnie I hear you on the sprays - those bottles never work for long for me either!! loving your result despite your discontent over parts of it :)

Beautiful organic background and stunning design:)
ReplyDeleteWell you just convinced me that I don't really NEED to buy any of these sprays!! My eyes [and heart] went straight for the butterfly anyway, Bonnie! lol TOTALLY gorgeous - where are all these beauties hiding?
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend, my friend!

This turned out to be quite a lovely card. I've never tried any sprays yet, so you're way ahead of me, but the background looks gorgeous and glittery from my viewpoint!
ReplyDeleteThis is so pretty. I've not had good luck with sprays so I will try again. The butterfly is gorgeous and the paper towel look came out so well. A twofer on one card!
ReplyDeleteIt sure looks like great results to me, Bon! Very arty and geometric! A perfect counter to the gentle round edges of the pretty butterfly! Hugs, Dolly
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about sprays, there can be no holding back :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful colours Bonnie, there almost seems to be some texture there. Your butterfly is gorgeous.

This is such a wonderful CAS design, Bonnie. I have no luck at all with sprays, never did. Doesn't matter what kind or brand I never get great coverage. Yours came out fine! This looks like it was fun to do too!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful - love the geometric stencil, sprayed in those great colours. And a gorgeous butterfly!
ReplyDeleteI think your background is beautiful along with your gorgeous die cut butterfly, my friend. TFS Hugs..Nancy
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun and pretty CAS card, Boonie! Love the fabulous, geometric, and shiny background. I think you did a fantastic job of spraying over the stencil! The colors are so beautiful. And The blue/green brusho butterfly looks amazing especially with the white die-cut outline! The wavy sentiment gives the movement (of the butterfly) to the card.

A really lovely card Bonnie, the spray/stenciled background looks fabulous behind your lovely butterfly - great colours and thanks for sharing with CAS Stencil, Robyn
ReplyDeleteAnd I think the effect you got is very interesting. It looks like coarse colored sand and is really beautiful. You chose the colors well, they are a wonderful duo. And the butterfly looks stunning!

Wonderful Bonnie - and I think your spraying is absolutely fabulous! My issue is with Brushos - always seem to get results like a mud patch :)

Beautiful Bonnie!! LOVE the pretty stenciled background. The geometric pattern is a perfect contrast to your butterfly. Great work with your new sprays. Why is it these things work great when you test them out before buying, but not so much when you get them home??!! Probably the tester has been used a lot and that's why it works so well. I think sprays resent being left unused for a while. They want to be used all the time. :) Your paper towel butterfly is absolutely gorgeous. xx
ReplyDeleteSuch a great geometric design for the BG of this special flutter. I love those speckles achieved with the sprays. I know what you mean when you talk about spray bottles. Even filled with plain water I sometimes fret when water painting. This card is a success, love the wonky sentiment. Great job! xx
ReplyDeleteThis is so pretty Bonnie! love the geometric stencil you used framed in the circle and that lovely butterfly and sentiment! xx
ReplyDeleteI think you've done a great job with the sprays, I love this design. The pretty butterfly looks fab against the geometric background xx
