Today I have some framed art.
While at the ESCR Retreat, Christine gave us some cardstock
with wide Washi tape on it. Dolly had brought the Washi tape and we had
painstakingly smoothed it on that cardstock.
This wasn't the prettiest Washi tape but after this technique, I really loved it and
thought it made an awesome background.
First we covered the piece with gesso. The piece above was covered in clear gesso.
The piece below covered in white gesso.
We cleaned our brushes and let the pieces dry.
Once the gesso was dry, we stamped on the pieces with Archival ink.
When that was dry, I colored the inside of the flowers with DOX inks that
I smooshed on my craft mat and spritzed with water, using a damp waterbrush.
I added some subtle stamping around the main design.
I loved these pieces so much that I asked Dolly for some more Washi
covered cardstock so I could make some more.
She contacted Christine who had some pieces and she graciously sent me
another piece.
I cut it in half and did this one.
Then I did this one.
And I was lucky enough to find the frames at the thrift store.
The mats cost more than the frames!
Now to get them on the wall.
I'll enjoy seeing them and remembering the awesome time I had
with these wonderful, talented ladies.
button on the top bar.
Now all I have to do is get the grouping on the wall.
Thanks for the visit and special thanks for your comments.
Enjoy!

OMG Bonnie, I'm so thrilled to see my retreat technique taken to the next level. These pieces are so beautiful framed, they certainly look like pieces of art and a great reminder of all the fun we had with some of those washi tapes.
ReplyDeleteWow Bonnie, what awesome art you have created from the "not necessarily the prettiest" washi - these are gorgeous and will make a wonderful grouping on one of your walls

Beautiful pictures to grace your walls Bonnie...wonderful art you have created with friends...great memories too!
ReplyDeleteOh, Bonnie, this is pure art creativity in many ways. The interesting technique with Washi over cs...the delicate and artsy 4 images...and the idea to use them for a wall art grouping to remember this very special retreat. I have goose bumps!
ReplyDeleteTotally frame-worthy little pieces of art, Bonnie!!! OH do I hope you post a photo of those on your wall one day... get on that please? lol
ReplyDeleteThe tape, the colors, the detail, and extra little stamping on each piece - wow, I could not choose a favorite. So wonderful that your friends shared - they've become part of the project!
Gorgeous!

These are so very beautiful, the frames are fab and I could see them all in a high end boutique type shop. LOVE them.

Bonnie, what a fabulous quartet of framed prints for your wall! All co-ordinated by the use of that not-so-nice washi tape. Love the different flower images you used on each, and the fabulous colouring of them!
ReplyDeleteWOW! Loved your framed artwork Bonnie! We had such a laugh with this washi tape, and then to see it used with these amazing designs, is just awesome. Love the black frames with brown mats. Perfect! Once you have them hung, you should include a photo on one of your posts so we can all see them displayed on your wall! xx
ReplyDeleteBonnie, there are many times I see your work and think they should be framed! ...and here THEY ARE!!! These are gorgeous pieces of art and will look amazing on your wall. I love this Gesso technique, too... I do prefer the white Gesso over the clear though. xx
ReplyDeleteWhat great memories for you and what fabulous little pieces of art. They are going to look amazing on your wall x.
ReplyDeleteWow, Bonnie! I can't get over those fantastic backgrounds done with washi tape! That had to be some super wide stuff. These will make a beautiful art grouping. Love the soft colors of the background allowing your artwork to shine. Beautiful framing too.
ReplyDeleteThis is so creative and what a perfect art for your home. It will always bring back those fun time memories. The stamping over it gave the tape a completely new life and the frames enhanced the grouping.
ReplyDeleteOh, Bon, your wall art is sensational! You really need to find a little boutique in town to make and sell more of these. I would buy them! You've turned an ugly veejayjay WT into such pretty artsy designs!! And how fun that now you'll have a secret chuckle every time you see them! Thanks for the memories and the inspiration! I still have to do something with the ones I made at ESCR. Hugs, Dolly
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize I was so behind on commenting on your site till I saw all these new beauties you've been working on, including these absolutely GORGEOUS framed pieces! I'm not totally sure I understand how you did these with the washi tape, but the end result is SO BEAUTIFUL!! They are going to look so pretty on your wall and a perfect reminder of all the fun you had at the retreat! :0)
ReplyDeleteThat retreat made for incredible inspiration. These are down right gorgeous. They are very professional and I am in AWE. I can't seem to find the right words to say, ASTONISHINGLY beautiful! I mean WOW! xx
ReplyDeleteYou honestly should start to showcase these and sell them... you'd be a very popular lady!
Bonnie, you have such beautiful paintings, I can imagine how beautiful they decorate which of your walls. An amazing series of images. It turns out that there are no ugly things in the world and everything can lead us to beauty
