Turning the Page October 2019

Time to turn the page on our calendars to a new month.

I make calendars each year for my desk and my family.

I thought I'd set up a regular post on the last day of each month to share them.

I hope you enjoy my “Turning the Page” posts.

Here's our October page.

By the way, the calendars are clipped together and can be displayed on an easel
or hung on a push pin or magnetic hook.  We all have a different way to display them.

If you would like a word document with the calendar, email me
and I will be glad to send it to you so you can design your own.
Email link is on the sidebar.

Thanks for the visit and special thanks for your comments.

Enjoy!

Critter Gifts

Hello.  I hope you are having a great weekend and finding some time to craft.

Today's card is playing with

and also for

and also
Every month Maureen (Scrappymo) challenges us to make a
Christmas card.  Her challenge runs from the 25th until the end of the month
and helps us be ready to send those Christmas cards out without a
panicky mad rush!

This sweet little hedgie isn't from a Christmas set but he has a gift all
ready to go.  I stamped him, masked him and put a Christmas tree behind him.

He's colored with watercolor pencils.  The presents too.

I've winked up the presents for some sparkle and shine.
Maybe you can see it better here...

Some bling looks a little like Christmas lights on the tree.

Thanks for the visit and special thanks for your comments.

Enjoy!

Garden Poems

Hello.  I hope you are having a good day.

When I saw the Penny Black Saturday challenge
'Anything Goes'...Optional 'Use Something Old or Neglected'
I immediately thought of this stamp.
I believe it was the first Penny Black stamp I ever bought.
It had been neglected for too long.

I stamped it with Archival Gray ink and used Distress markers and my
waterbrush to color it.

When it was dry, I added some white dots with a gel pen.

If you'd like to see other cards I made with this stamp, look here, here and here.

A Garden of Flowers

Hi there.  I'm glad you could stop by!

I love this flower set from MFT!  There's so many flowers and ways to do them.

I've inked three of the flowers with markers and planted a little garden.
I won't have to worry about watering this one.

I was actually trying to follow the MFT sketch challenge but
I've missed the deadline on that.

But I think I've made it for their Color Challenge 125

Lots of wonderful inspiration at both these challenges!

Twofer Critters

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

Guess what Darnell's Twofer Challenge is this month.

This fun stamp is from Technique Junkies.  I performed surgery on the stamp to
separate the ostriches and the sentiment. For these cards I didn't use the
sentiment that came with this set.

My Onefer....

For this card I stamped both ostriches on Mixed Media paper with Sahara Sand ink.
I stamped the sentiment, tore the bottom and sponged some ink along the edges.

My Twofer...

I fussy cut on ostrich out for this card and used a piece of
mop up paper towel transfer for the background.

I've cut the arch from a piece of textured paper I found in my stash and
used a larger die to emboss around the die cut.

The witches hat has been stamped, colored and fussy cut.

And a Threefer...

While I was going I fussy cut the other ostrich from the previous card and
jazzed her up with a necklace of rhinestones.

This is actually my favorite of the bunch!

Did you guess what the challenge is this time?

Scandinavian Christmas

Hello friends.  I'm so glad you stopped in.

Today I'm playing with Jo's Christmas Kickstart Challenge.
Scandinavian Holiday

I pulled out an old Stampin' Up! set and colored it with markers.

I also used some SU heart dies to cut the image out and another heart to
give it a little contrast from the embossed white background.

Pretty simple and fun to do.

How's your Christmas stash coming?

Gingerbread Treats for CAS Christmas

Hello friends.

I'm back with some more holiday treats for CAS Christmas.

Our hostess, Nance has challenged us to make

I found this stamp that's a miniature of my larger gingerbread man and the
matching dies at our stamp show during the summer.

I stamped and heat embossed with white on brown cardstock.
The die was a huge help in cutting them out and I also cut from some brown foam
to add dimension.  I like my gingerbread with some thickness!

Ummm, they are making me wish for gingerbread!

I had an extra cookie so I made another in your face red card.

Check out what our fabulous Design Team and Guest Designer, Birgit
have done to inspire you.  They'll make your mouth wish for holiday treats!

I hope you'll share your treats with us at

Unfolding for CAS Watercolour

Hello my friends. I'm so glad you stopped by!

I have another card two cards with complementary colors.

Jenny has challenged us to use complementary colors on our cards at

I've used red and green this time.

I've done a no line watercolor look by placing this stamp in my MISTI and first inking
the flower heads with Spun Sugar, then inking the petals with Distress Markers.
By using the MISTI I can ink small sections
and stamp and even stamp again if I need more definition.

I used a damp waterbrush to move the colors and when it was all painted
and dried, I used a little re-inker and the wet on wet technique to
add a light wash to the background.

I added some lines and highlights to the flowers with watercolor pencils.

This is quite a large image, so I cut one flower off and fussy cut it out
to go on a second card.

I love getting a twofer out of one image!

Our Guest Designer, Anita has added her fantastic inspiration to our
Design Team's line up.  I hope you'll go check out CAS Watercolour
and join in too.  It's open until the 24th!

Thanks for the visit and special thanks for your comments.

Inchie Roses

Hi there.  There's still time to play at
CAS Mix Up.

Lovely Joanna is hosting this month and she chose....
My mixed media are Inchies, Stamping, Watercoloring, Embossing with a die

I inked this Magenta stamp with Distress Markers and used my
waterbrush to move the ink.  The MISTI makes it easy to ink multiple colors.

After all the stamping was done, I pulled some of the color
from the leaves to add a light wash.

Then came the scary part.

I was so afraid of messing up the whole thing by cutting.

Fortunately, it all worked out fine this time.

Thanks for the visit and special thanks for your comments.

Our Design Team and Guest Designer Stephanie have some
awesome inspiration for you.
I hope you check them out and join us at
CAS Mix Up.

Challenge closes on the 24th.

Enjoy!

Like a Box of Chocolates

Hello there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I was cleaning out a notebook and found a page I'd saved from a Paper Craft Magazine.

There was a card that had caught my eye and I'd kept that page so I could CASE it.

I decided it would be perfect for Joanna's Inchie Challenge at CAS Mix Up.

I stamped the crosshatch design on a strip of Chocolate Chip cardstock and
heat embossed it.  My one inch square punch assured that my pieces were
exactly one inch.  A corner rounder punch gave the pieces a more realistic look.

The other two pieces were punched out and dry embossed.  Then I sponged a little
copper Delicata ink on the ridges.

The Sending is three die cut layers.

I think I'll go see if I can find a piece of real chocolate.

Oh, and the challenge is open until the 24th.

Thanks for the visit and special thanks for your comments.

Enjoy!

Baby Wipe and Stencil

Hi there.  I hope the week is starting off well for you.

Today I'm playing with the CAS Stencil Challenge that's hosted by Julia.

I've smooshed a piece of photo paper into some spritzed Distress Oxide ink.
I only used one color this time to leave a fairly neutral background.

I laid the stencil over the dried smooshed piece and
sponged more Distress Oxide ink through it.

When it was completely dry, I wiped with a baby wipe and watched
the magic happen.  I never get tired of this technique!

All that was left was to trim it up and put it behind an
embossed frame.

The sentiment is stamped in the same color as the background.

Thanks for the visit and special thanks for your comments.

Enjoy!

Two Turtle Doves

Hi there.  I hope you are enjoying the weekend.

I have another Christmas card.  Christmas will be here before we know it!

The Jingle Belles Challenge nearly stumped me this time.
It's 12 Days of Christmas.

I thought of this Impression Obsession Dove Die and went with
Two Turtle Doves.

I had some snippets of textured pearlized cardstock in with the dies.  That
worked for cutting the dies.

The background piece is one I started at the ESCR retreat. We glued
some torn pieces of book pages (gasp) on cardstock and covered with gesso.

Can't see those pages?  Neither can I, but I know this started out that way.

I added some watercoloring.  It was too dark.  So I added some gesso.
Then I added some stamping.  Too dark. x#%r.  More gesso.

I'm going to try this again, Hopefully with more success!

The ribbon is a teeny strip cut with my Cutterpillar.
I love how I can get that little twist.

I'm also going to add this to
ANYTHING GOES: Must have stamping

S is for Sparkle, T is for Texture

I don't have sparkle, but lots of texture.

Thanks for the visit and special thanks for your comments.

Enjoy!
