When I saw that Kathy Racoosin of The Daily Marker Blog was leading
n Online Card Class based on her Coloring Challenge Road Trip,
I just had to sign up.
I have a class this week so I'm really stretched for time, but I
was bad and treated myself to watching Kathy's videos yesterday and
participating in Day 1. What a treat!
I pulled out my Copic markers because I'm not as comfortable with them as with
my watercolors.
I'll admit that I struggled. And I'm not super happy with the results.
But only practice will make improvement. Right?
I really made a mistake by using too dark of a violet shade at the base of
the petals. I had to work out a lot of the color with the 0 marker.
I think that will become my favorite marker!
And I didn't leave enough of a sweet spot. So I pulled out a white Supracolor pencil
and sweetened it up.
Here you can see it in close up.
If you stand back a ways, it looks much better. LOL!
I haven't put this on a card yet, because I really need to get ready for my friends to come.
I'll finish it up and show you the finished product in a few days. I hope.
Thanks for the visit and special thanks for your comments.
Enjoy!

Great card Bonnie, I will be checking to see what else you do in the online course :)
ReplyDeleteBonnie you did an awesome job!! YOu have a sweet spot, no harsh lines, blended colors and striking contrast. I LOVE it and I am so proud of you. I just wish you liked it more!
ReplyDeleteWell done Bonnie I think your flowers are wonderful and I know you'll get more comfortable as you practice...It's lovely
ReplyDeleteIf I did that well I would be pleased as punch with it Bonnie. As I don't have copics, I really don't know how I would go with them :)
ReplyDeleteBlessings
Maxine
Well done, YOU!! It's fabulous up close, Bonnie!
ReplyDeleteI loved that little trip to Florida/MFT and class with Kathy a few years ago... guess what? She is EXACTLY like this irl - and wonderful!

Thanks for sharing your honest experience with this...I struggle with water coloring so could use some thing like this video.....or maybe just get too frustrated. Anyway, your Copics coloring looks good to me. Enjoy your classes as I am sure the attendees will.
ReplyDeleteAre you kidding Bonnie?! I would be absolutely thrilled with this result! I love the range of colour you have in your flowers and I can't believe this isn't finished! Vicky x
ReplyDeleteIt looks fabulous close up to me and what vibrant and wonderful colours Bonnie x Well done you x.
ReplyDeleteYou did a beautiful job on this, Bonnie. I both love and hate copics too but pencil fixes everything. Love your highlights and shading on this! Outstanding! Love the white space and yes, that “0” comic is my favorite.
ReplyDeleteI think your coloring looks pretty dog gone good Bonnie!
ReplyDeleteSandy xx
If I could get results like that I would be ecstatic, love your flowers.

I think you're being too hard on yourself, Bonnie! I'd be thrilled if I could do that with Copics! Love the way you added the sweet spots with the white pencil - great idea! You'll have to bring some of what you learn in the course to our retreat!
ReplyDeleteLooks perfectly pretty to me, Bonnie, and you are lucky you feel more comfortable with watercolors! I myself struggle with them, harder to blend, harder to control.... Each time I think I'm getting better I have a major failure. I guess it's all about the practice!
ReplyDeleteThese flowers knocked me out of my winter, sleepy laziness. I admire this wonderful card and love mixed colors. And the soft shadow behind the flowers does a really great job. WOW !!!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
BozenA xx
You are your worst critic, Bonnie. Your Copic colouring is beautiful. Surprise, surprise (not!), love your colour choice. I love my 0 blender pen too.
ReplyDeleteI had the privilege of taking a class from Kathy at MFT a year and a half ago and I must confess I don't always follow what she preaches. You on the other hand are doing a great job, Bonnie.
ReplyDeletegorgeous...the blues are amazing.
