Cupcakes for Twofer

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

It's time for another Twofer Challenge!

My first card is either a late Valentine or I'm way ahead for next year.

I used a bubble background from a playdate with Jack.

We put a little dish soap in a cup of water and added some drops of food coloring!
When you lay a piece of cardstock on the bubbles, you get a wonderful, fun background!

I stamped the cupcake with the letters on the background then stamped again
on some pattern paper so I could paper piece the cupcake.

For my Twofer...

I stamped the cupcake, heat embossed it and colored with Copics.

Shaker cards are always a challenge but fun to give, so I decided to tackle it.

The sequins don't want to shake around much.  I think all but two are stuck
to the edges.  Some of the shakers are stuck to the cupcake intentionally.
Some are not.

The background was embossed with a die.

There's some shimmery sugar on the icing.  Unfortunately the acetate and
shimmer together wouldn't cooperate for a good photo.

I was happy with how the Happy Birthday circle fit in the aperture.

I can't wait for you to see what our Guest Designers and talented Design Team
have done for your amazement and inspiration.

Hope to see your cakes and/or cupcakes in the gallery!

And if you'd like to join in a fun recipe exchange, feel free to add
your favorite cake or cupcake recipe to your post when you play!

I used to bake cakes and cupcakes all the time (me and Duncan Hines that is).
Then I was introduced to card making and the cakes and cupcakes were left behind.

Once a year I bake my hubby's favorite pound cake.
You can see my cake recipe below my card recipe at the bottom of this post.

  3. Jack looks like he's having so much fun, Bonnie! What a cute kid - I haven't ever tried this, but sure do love your results! In fact, the confetti on card 2 looks a little like bubbles, too!
Your cupcake is darling, and the perfect size in both instances! [psst - I don't have much luck with shakers that actually shake!]
I'll be trying that pound cake of yours, Bonnie - anything with almond is my favorite cake!

  4. What fun cards, Bonnie. It’s been a long time since I did this with the kids and still do have some backgrounds I need to use. I love the way you fit the happy birthday in the circular aperture. That image looks so fun to do. Great color choices too.

  5. I always learn something from you, Bon! Do you use regular cardstock or watercolor for laying on the bubbles? Great photo of Jack and wonderful result! I can't wait to try this and I think it made the perfect background for your scrumptious card of love which could be used for many things/occasions. And good for you for trying a shaker card! It's so cool, even if it doesn't shake that much, and someone will be delighted to pull this from the envelope! Thanks for sharing your pound cake recipe! I have to walk around the block now just from reading it, haha! Hugs, Dolly

  6. What an awesome background, and I love the photo of your helper! Might have to try that with some of the grands this summer!! Your cupcake fits so perfectly with the "L-V-E" on your valentine. So clever, and I love how the ef is tied into your bitty heart on the frosting! Shaker cards can indeed be a pain, but this one turned out so cute! That cupcake really takes center stage against all that white too. It looks good enough to eat! Great cards! Stay safe and take care. xo Bev

  13. Two fabulous cards Bonnie! The bubble background is brilliant and I bet Jack loves coming to play with you! I've never thought to replace the O in LOVE with a cupcake but it makes a lot of sense!! The shaker card is super. I would have crowed for half an hour if I'd made the Happy Birthday die fit into the aperture! Loving that people are posting recipes :) Vicky x

  15. Those cupcake cards look delicious!! :) LOVE that bubble background. Great work Jack!! Fun design with using the cupcake as the "O". And the second card is so sweet with the round sentiment frame. Perfect fit for the cupcake. Your pound cake sounds yummy. Question ... stick of butter is how much? We don't use sticks of butter in Canada. :) xx

  16. What a brilliant bubble background you made with Jack, Bonnie ... it adds so much to the whimsical look of your design ... and I love that the cupcake replaces the o in love! I don't do shakers hardly either ... though yours is a delight ... the cupcake snuggles so nicely into the die cut frame ... and those shaker elements behind the lettering look perfect to me! Scrummy recipe ... now all I need is a baker! Hugs, Anita :)

  19. Two beautiful and colorful cards, Bonnie. Jack is very talented for making bubbles. :-) Great idea to spend the time together. Background on the Valentine card is fantastic. I've never try out this technique, but I think I should. It is great too, that you have replaced letter "O" with the cupcake. Shaker birthday card is stunning. Thank you for the recipe of the cake. Perhaps I will be able to bake it too. :-) Hugs, Sonja

  25. Well, first off, I'm noting the pound cake recipe. Sour cream? Love the sound of it! Secondly, the bubble background is fantastic and sounds like tons of fun to make. Can I blow the bubbles? Pretty sure I only have red food coloring, though. I really love the shaker happy birthday frame on your second card. Great twofer, Bonnie!
