Hanging Hearts

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

Last week our Craft Group met and Jan had lots of die cuts and
embossed backgrounds to make valentines.

This was my favorite of the group that I made.

I love the richness of the red against the white embossed hearts and only
needed to add the love die cut to finish it off.

Oh, and I used my punches to cut and add some little gold dots to the hearts.

You can see the embossing better below, but the glare turned those hearts pink!

Eek! I'd better get those valentines ready to mail out!
Can you believe January is almost done?

Holiday Cheer

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I found this poinsettia in my UFO box.  It wasn't my best stab at watercoloring,
but I just couldn't toss it.

The sketch at Freshly Made Sketches gave me an idea...

You can see the sketch below and I think this works.

Some stamped splatters and gold foil dots helped too.

It's all mounted on a piece of the back of a Mixed Media pad that was A-6 size, then
on a folded piece of Neenah Solar White.

Challenges:
Freshly Made Sketches #620 - (Sketch by Jaquie)
Peace on Earth #56 - Inspired by top Right
Edited to add thanks to Jo's reminder
Christmas Kickstart #82 - Midas Touch of Gold

Alcohol Ink with Gilding Flakes for GO7

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

This month the Group of Seven Cardmakers had a messy play with alcohol inks and
Gilding Flakes.

I did four cards from two pieces of gilded alcohol ink.

First up....

For the blue piece, I used lots of alcohol with the ink on Yupo paper and my
Tim Holtz Ink Blower to move the colors in fun patterns. I let it dry completely and
tried to add gilding flakes to the sticky areas.

I couldn't get it to stick, so I used the skinny tip
of my Bearly Arts glue and added thin beads of glue to some areas then covered the glue with the
gilding flakes and let it sit for a while before rubbing the excess flakes off.

I die cut some
feathers from it.  You can't see it in the photo, but there are dry embossed
feathers in the background.

With the rest of the piece, I CASEd myself...

I hadn't used this fun die in a long time and it works so well with
alcohol inked backgrounds.

Then I did a piece of green and made two more cards.

My first Christmas card of the New Year...

Again I used lots of alcohol with the ink on Yupo paper and my Tim Holtz Ink Blower to move
the color around.  Before the piece was completely dry, I covered it with gilding flakes
and pressed into the ink.  I left it to dry a bit then I used a scrubby to rub off the excess.

There was still some sticky places after it dried and I couldn't get the flakes to stick
so I sprinkled baby powder over the top and rubbed off with a dry baby wipe.
This worked great to get the sticky off.

For my final card, I used the rest of the green piece...

and added an Irish Blessing and hot foiled butterfly to it.
The butterfly was hot foiled on acetate and put on top of a die cut
of plain white.  The antenna is from gold cardstock.

Do go over to the Group of Seven website and check out the instructive videos and
the beautiful examples the rest of the GO7 gals have done.  They have good tips and tricks
for this technique on their blogs.  If you try it yourself, you can link up your results
over there too.  The biggest tip I have is to wait until AFTER you do this to vacuum!

Kitty, Kitty

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

When I saw the mood board at Just Us Girls, I knew it was time for this kitty to
come out to play.

He doesn't look too happy. I think he was surprised to be let out after such a long time.

His scarf and hat were a bit of a challenge.  A tag die worked for his hat and an
arch die was cut apart for his scarf.  The pom-pom was made with a flower die.

I think he's uttering a cynical Fa la la la!

Love Is

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

This card is made up of UFOs (UnFinished Objects)

I've done some white embossing with ink blending over it and matched the bottom layer of the
die cut flowers and some of the top layer to match.

I shouldn't have placed the flower of the NEVER.  Oops.

"Love never ends"

My UFO box has become boxes and they are overflowing.  I'm hoping to get most (or even
some) on cards in the next month.  Wish me luck!

Challenges:
Freshly Made Sketches - I hope this is close enough.
Word Power #1 - Use the Sentiment as the Focus of the design

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Love Chapter (PB)
Ink:   Whisper White (SU), Picked Raspberry, Seedless Preserves (DOX)
Paper:   Neenah Solar White
Other:  Gorgeous Gardenia Outline & Back (ret MB), Mini Slimline Double Stitched Die (Kat Scrap), White EP

Pair of Ferns

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I love the detail on this die from Simon Says Stamp.

I cut one fern from Soft Seafoam cardstock and the other from vellum.
Using a finger sponge dauber, I added some Distress Oxide to darken the die cuts,
leaving the vellum fern lighter.

The embossed background works so well with these die cuts.
And a die cut sentiment finishes off this card for an anniversary.

And it works equally well with a copper die cut sentiment.

Challenges:
Color Hues #79 - Copper & Green

Card Recipe
Stamps:
Ink:   Rustic Wilderness (DOX)
Paper:   Neenah Solar White, Garden Green, Vellum, Gold Foil, Copper Foil
Other:  Sword Fern Die (SSS), Fern 3D EF (SU), Let's Have a Word Love (Greetery), Sentimental Die (AE)

Enjoy!

Winter Birthday

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

This NBUS stamp has bee waiting for over a year to see ink.

I stamped one of the branches with Soft Suede ink and colored with Arteza watercolor
pencils.  I didn't use much water because it wasn't stamped on watercolor paper.

After all the ink was dry, I splattered some White Gouache paint over it
and added it to a card front.

We'll be doing a card similar to this in our class this week.

Challenges:
Cardz 4 Guyz #338 - Use Something New from Stash
Four Seasons - Winter
NBUS - Never Before Used Schtuff (Winter Sketches stamp)
Simply Clean and Simple - CAS card with option of Winter

Birthday Hearts

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

January is already half over! The time seems to fly by!

Today's cards use the Spellbinders December Club's  3D embossing folder.

This folder will emboss two different patterns at the same time.

My classes this month are mainly for Valentine's Day but several of the stampers
don't have much need for valentines so I like to try to give them good options
for other occasions too.  Both work great for a birthday.

They are both embossed on Fresh Freesia cardstock and lightly daubed with
white and Fresh Freesia ink.

Some gold die cut and stamped sentiments and tiny punched circles from the scraps
of gold cardstock add some elegance.

On this one, I used a white gel pen in the center of some of the flowers.

Challenges:
NBUS #58 - Never Before Used Schtuff (new EF)
Seize the Birthday #275 - Birthday card with option of Dry & Wet Embossing

Card Recipe
Stamps:  All Occasions (Jane's Doodles)
Ink:   Whisper White, Fresh Freesia
Paper:   Fresh Freesia, Gold Foil, Neenah Solar White
Other:  Two Hearts as One 3D EF (SPL), Happy Die (Paper Roses), Happy Birthday Poe Script Die (PS), Gold EP, White Gel Pen

Enjoy!

Sympathy

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

Sadly, I needed a sympathy card.

This embossed and colored piece was in my UFO box.
I don't remember what inks I used but I remember using Simon's Detail Round
Blending Brushes.  They worked great!

I need to put more UFOs on cards.  The box is overflowing!

Challenges:
Can You Handle the Pressure - ATG using embossing folder (die not use the option of winter)

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Botanical Silhouettes (PTI)
Ink:   Crumb Cake
Paper:   Neenah Natural, MFT Natural
Other:  Vine Canopy 3D EF (SSS), Detail Round Blending Brushes (SSS)

Blue Daisies

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I am still having fun playing my my Betterpress system.  I love the crisp images!

This is such a large image and perfect for a slimline card.  In this case it's a
Monarch 3 1/2" by 8 1/2" card.

I used the colors for the Color Hues Challenge where my friend Marcia
chose light blue and navy.

Jack and family gave me a new set of alcohol markers for Christmas.  They come from
Amazon and the brand in Ohuhu.  So far I am really liking them.  Jack brought his
pastel color markersto share and I used both his set and mine to get the two shades of blue.

I used some gray colors for the stems and leaves and added a bit of blue to them.

I did some splatters to finish it off.  I found that a drop of reinker on an old acrylic
block and flicked off with a wet brush worked great.

I didn't add a sentiment because my friend saw this card and told me multiple times
that she would frame it and it would be perfect between her mirrors.  Needless to say,
she will be getting this card.

Challenges:
Color Hues #78 - Light Blue and Navy
NBUS #58 - Never Before Used Schtuff

Card Recipe
Stamps:
Ink:   Betterpress Black
Paper:   Betterpress Porcelain, Night of Navy, Neenah Solar White
Other:  Wild Daisies Press plate (Alt), Ohuhu Alcohol Markers (Pale Blue, Lt Blue, Royal Blue, Warm Gray 3 & 4, Caran D'ache Supracolor Pencil Night Blue, Slim Diagonal Stitch Die (PFS), White Gouache Paint, Night of Navy Re-inker

Enjoy!
