Today's One Layer Wednesday challenge, hosted by Susan of Simplicity fame, is to do a card inspired by a picture found on Marta's Boards at Pinterest.
I am really uncomfortable with inspiration photos! First of all, I have trouble zeroing in on which to be inspired by and second, I'm not real sure what to do with it when I find it! Am I uptight or what? I tend to just copy what I see and I'm not sure that's the point of the whole thing. I did this card inspired by this picture.
When I finished with the wreath, it seemed a little to dense (thick, not stupid) to me. So I tried again.
It's still not as lean and simple as the inspiration, but I liked it better. I used the Stamp-a-majig for the first card and just eyeballed the second.
I'm not pleased with the birds. I should have left off the feet and inked them in tan. Those tails make me think of a Carolina Wren instead of the Chickadee I was going for.
But do you see what I mean. I pretty much did my version of the card I saw. Not much inspiration there!
I did another that is a bit more creative and not so much of a copy. I'll share that tomorrow.
Card Recipe
Stamps: Sweet Summer, So Happy for You (both are Sale-a-bration sets), You're a Gem
Ink: SU Markers (Pear Pizzazz, Peach Parfait, Basic Gray)
Paper: Whisper White
Accessories: Eyelet Border Punch, Blender Pen
Thanks for the visit. Enjoy!

Bonnie, I absolutely love those wreaths...they're so airy. Of course, I love the added birdies. They're both great cards.
ReplyDeleteBonnie, I totally understand about inspiration challenges. I struggle with them too. I'm never sure if I'm just suppose to copy something or what! Im not even sure I did what I was suppose to this time, but I think I did. This card is very nice. And I love the way you did it. I think it's perfect!
ReplyDeleteI'm back. I already commented on your gorgeous cards but I wanted to tell you I left something for you on my blog. (Under Stampin B and Award)
ReplyDeleteI like them both but think I agree with you that the second one is better.
ReplyDeleteKnow what you mean about being out of your comfort zone with the photo board thing - feel exactly the same!

I like the second one, too. Good use of the SAB sets (must try).

I really like both of your cards, Bonnie! I really like the delicacy of the second card. And, I wouldn't be too hard on yourself regarding the inspiration. Inspiration comes from everywhere...even subliminally. Not sure I'm going to do this challenge this week...too much inspiration in one place to wrap my brain around and focus.
ReplyDeleteLOVE. LOVE. LOVE these cards.
ReplyDeletethanks for the inspiration.
i am going to make some of these today.
such fun!!

Love both of your cards! The wreath is so pretty. Great take on the challenge!
ReplyDeletethis is so beautiful. i saw your gallery entry on scs, and followed you here because i loved your card so much. inspiration is whatever is in your heart -- i love your wreath, right down to the little feet on the birds. beautiful.
ReplyDeletep.s. that last post was by me, serenity_stamper on scs.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful card! Love the second one, simple and pretty! :) We all have issues with inspirations so take a chill pill! :)
ReplyDeleteAt least you did the challenge--I haven't started yet, and probably won't this week. Your wreaths are beautiful! I especially like the corner punch you used that fits perfectly with the airy feel of the wreath.
ReplyDeleteI love both your cards and can see how the picture inspired you. This is my first go at letting a picture design for me and I have to say I'm not sure if I've made it too simple but it's what comes into your head straight away I guess x
ReplyDeleteHi there, love both these pretty cards, light airy and lots of fun:0) xxx
ReplyDeleteNow, Bonnie, please lighten up on yourself! Don't overthink the whole inspiration challenge thing. You did a GREAT job being inspired by the wedding invite! I particularly like the second one where you used Friend in the center and that totally makes the two birdies perfect (feet and all!)
ReplyDeleteYou can interpret an inspiration piece more literally (as you did) or much more loosely. It. Doesn't. Matter. Just have fun!
