Painting with the Zigs

I got some Ziggies for my birthday!

Zig Kuretake Clean Color Real Brush Pens that is.

I got the 12 pack to give them a try.

Yesterday I had a play with them.

Don't you love that rich, vibrant color?

I used them on cold press watercolor paper and blended with my Aqua Painter.

I need lots more practice, but I was really happy with my first try.

One thing I found did not work was stamping and embossing on this paper.

I tried to mask the hummingbird and stamp the flowers behind.

So the hummer has dimension now.

I think I like it better this way!

The flowers (I'm calling them Crepe Myrtle since they are in full bloom around here),
were inked up with the Zigs (#25 pink) and the stems with #60 brown.

I stamped off a couple times to give dimension.

Then I moved the color with my damp Aqua Painter.

For the wash I scribbled on a plastic lid, diluted with a little water
and added to a wet background.

Since this is my very first (and at the moment only) Wplus9 set
and I really want to share this card over there,
I'm going to see if it will fly in their

maybe they won't throw it back.

That's all for this post.

I'm anxious to play some more.

Thanks for stopping by.

Enjoy!

  4. I'd say you hit a homer right off the bat! Love the crepe myrtles - they are just beautiful - and of course I love the little hummer. Actually I think he looks much better with the dimension you've given, rather than if he'd just been an image on the piece. You did super with the Zigs. Good to see that this worked well for you on Hot Press paper. I've also embossed with white & black on Mixed Media paper and it worked well. My last effort on 140# w/c with one of the crazy birds, didn't work so great. My 2nd try did better. I LOVE this one, Miss B. TFS & Happy wkend.

  12. You did a gorgeous job with your new Ziggies, Bonnie! I love how vibrant the colors are and, of course, I think your hummer rocks!! I just ordered them after playing with them with Lolly, but sadly they tell me they won't be here until the middle of SEPTEMBER! :( Then again, it's not like I don't have 13 other types of watercol ... oh, someone help me, lol!! It's a good thing you, me, Lolly, and Mary don't live in the same town!! Enjoy your day! Hugs, Darnell

I got a set too, but not as experienced with mine as you are with yous! lol I've only tried once, but I'm not very good at watercoloring anyway. I will keep practicing. lol I love how your flowers came out, they are just gorgeous and that hummer, wow! He looks amazing, love how the colors came out on him. You background wash look just as amazing as the rest of your watercoloring. Love, love, love! Hugs, Brenda
