We're doing sunflowers at
This is a popular die for this challenge!
I die cut the sunflower from Mixed Media paper keeping it all intact and
painted it with Gansai Tambi watercolors.
For the top layer, I cut again and removed all the petal pieces, sponged color
with Distress ink in the center, then spritzed with water and blotted.
After everything dried, I glued the piece with the colored center
atop the yellow petals.
I went into the base of each petal with a watercolor pencil
and pulled the color with a damp water brush to shade the petals.
I mounted it all on a treasured piece of specialty paper that my friend gave me
and added a narrow mat of Crumb Cake cardstock.
I'm also joining in at AAA Cards.

ReplyDeleteStunning card, Bonnie. I love the sunflower die, I think I NEED this one! xx
ReplyDeleteNow this is impressive. First I'm trying to imagine doing this and keeping track of all the pieces and keeping the outline in white. Sounds like a lot of work but so worth it. Beautiful shading on this and once again, a cheerful, happy card.
ReplyDeleteThat's a gorgeous sunflower Bonnie, Great way to watercolour and then keep the outline clean. Love it :)
ReplyDeleteAnother fabulous card. I love sunflowers. [Bunny]

ReplyDeleteSuch a happy looking card! Like your technique of using watercolor pencil and pulling it out with a water brush for shading....gonna "borrow" that idea. The crumbcake mat sets it off so well.

ReplyDeleteYour card is so perfectly made. Thank you for the description of its performance, I wondered how you managed to paint the sunflower and preserve the perfect purity of white of the other elements. Great technique and great design, Bonnie.

I hope you can help me. I bought this die several years ago, and have never been able to get it to cut well. I use the Stampin’ Up! magnetic plate and two clear cutting plates. It comes close to cutting if I place another piece of card stock underneath the paper I’m trying to cut. It’s been a frustrating task! Many thanks!
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful! I don’t understand how you kept the first cut intact. Could you explain that please and thank you
ReplyDeleteDiane, I take the die off the cutout very carefully and put some scotch tape on the back before watercoloring. Die cut a second time and place the colored pieces in the uncolored piece.
