We have a new challenge at CAS Mix Up
My mixed media are Bokeh Technique, Stenciling, Alcohol Ink, Stamping, Die Cutting and Dry Embossing.
Nancy is our host this month and this is what she chose.
I wanted to try something a little different for my Bokeh technique.
I pulled out a piece of alcohol inked background from my stash and
used the Alcohol Ink Blending Pen that I had bought ??? years ago
to get my white spots.
I placed a stencil over the inked piece and removed the color
with the blending pen. I overlapped circles in a few places and
used several different sized circles on my stencil.
It worked even better than I had hoped!
Speaking of stencils, CAS will have a new challenge starting on January 4th.
The Bokeh technique is one of the many ways you can use a stencil.
If you're not sure how to do this technique, there are videos at
CAS Mix Up that can help you out.
Our Design Team has come back from Christmas vacation with
lots of fabulous inspiration for you. And we have a very talented
Guest Designer, Viv. I'm sure you'll love her card as much as I do.
Thanks for the visit and special thanks for your comments.
Enjoy!

Such a unique effect from the fun technique and so creative to use the alcohol inks to achieve it. Wonderful design with the dry embossing at the bottom and that beautiful bokeh effect at the top. Beautiful card Bonnie and a Happy New Year to you x
ReplyDeleteBeautiful effect with the bokeh design on alcohol inked paper. Your blending solution pen (I have a package of those sitting getting dusty!), worked beautifully! Gorgeous design with your pretty butterfly and lovely sentiment with pretty font. Great way to start the year, my friend! xx
ReplyDeletethe AI's look beautiful with the bokeh technique Bonnie, and wow those colours are amazing. I also think I have an alcohol blender pen I need to dust off :)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous and creative bokeh background using your alcohol ink blending pen, Bonnie. You gave me the idea of..how about using my Alcohol ink Lift ink pad? That should work great too:-) I am always learning from you, my friend. I will still be playing often in your CAS Mix Up Challenge. I have learned so much how to use different Mixed Media products and still keep my cards..CAS! Happy Creative New Year, Hugs..Nancy
ReplyDeleteSO pretty! Love the embossing at the bottom and the pretty colors. Fabulous card Bonnie.
ReplyDeleteLynn
A real eye catcher card Bonnie, love the vibrant colours of the alcohol inks and great results achieved for this technique... looks like I'll also have those AI out very soon.
ReplyDeleteHello Bonnie, happy New Year, my dear friend. Let it be the best year in your life so far. May it bring health, happiness, love and money. Thank you for your presence in my life. Thank you for the support on my blog and more :-) Thank you for so many beautiful cards, for an amazing portion of inspiration. I love your cards, especially made with watercolor technique.
ReplyDeleteAnd this card is real madness. It's an extremely innovative approach to the bokeh theme. It looks stunning. Beautiful card
Hugs,
BożenA
WOW! Talk about imaginative. That IS different and something I may have to try with the lift ink! This looks fabulous, Bonnie and love that rich, red color!
ReplyDeleteWow, thank you so much for your inspiration, Bonnie! I bought an Alcohol Ink Blending Pen a few years ago but I was not sure how I can use it and it was sitting (soundly sleeping!) in my storage box. Now I know how to use it. Speaking of "something different", I would have never thought of using the Bokeh technique with AI backgrounds. You've shown us how wonderfully it works! And I love the lovely white butterfly and how you made flat space for the sentiment!
ReplyDeleteHideko xx
Love how you got the Bokeh effect with the blending pen over the AI background Bonnie - such a clever idea and a beautiful background for your white die cut butterfly! Julia xx
ReplyDeleteWhat a great technique and a GORGEOUS card results!!! Must check out that video and purchase a few alcohol inks????
ReplyDeleteOh Bonnie - love this! Got to get me an AI Blending Pen... pronto!
ReplyDeleteThanks for having me this month. x
Blending pen :O ..you got me searching! I wondered how you had made this UNIQUE beautiful background out alcohol inks. This card is exceptional! What a brilliant new Bokeh approach.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year dear friend, you have a busy, creative, successful year ahead. Thanks for this amazing community! xxx
This is a different way to do the technique Bonnie and it has worked beautifully. I love the colour and the dry embossing looks so pretty, and with the space in the centre for the nice large sentiment which looks great too. x
ReplyDeleteLove the bokeh effect on alcohol ink! What a brilliant idea! A perfect background for the pretty butterfly. And your dry embossing adds lots of texture but still keeps the card very CAS!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful card Bonnie. I love your inked piece with the bokeh effect. The pretty butterfly is a great accent. I will have to get this technique a try as I have never done it before.
ReplyDeleteThat technique works great with alcohol ink, Bonnie. Gorgeous card.
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful card Bonnie! I love the bokeh look you have going on, so beautiful and I am loving the bottom of this card as well. It works so beautiful together! Loving that embossing folder you used. As well as that beautiful butterfly. I so need to give this technique a try. Happy New Year! Hugs, Brenda
ReplyDeleteGreat work with the technique on an AI background, Bonnie. I don’t have an AI blending pen, but it worked brilliantly to soften the vibrant colours of the AI for a beautiful Bokeh effect. xx
ReplyDeleteFun card Bonnie and I really love the layout. This is a card I would teach, especially since most of my card group ladies have leftover pieces of alcohol paper. Honest I need to look up an alcohol ink blending pen. Thanks for sharing and Happy New Year. :) Barbara
ReplyDelete(looks like I am not the only one who does not know about the blending pen)
Love the strong colours on your feature panel Bonnie, and the bokeh effect brings them to life beautifully.
ReplyDeleteBlessings
Maxine

ReplyDeleteGreat work Bonnie. Full of imagination. That dry embossing bokeh with brilliant red are soooo eye catching!
ReplyDeleteCould use A a2 folders that way on base, not thought of that before.
