I love Eileen Godwin's work and was excited to see that she was doing a workshop
on Facebook. I'm sad to say that I haven't seen all the videos yet, but I really
enjoyed the first few and wanted to give some of her techniques a try.
I did an alcohol ink background on Yupo, squeezed some alcohol lift solution on top,
and brayered it over the whole piece. Then I laid a piece of cardstock on top and
brayeredover top to make sure I got good coverage. When I pulled the cardstock up,
I had this lovely pastel background.
I stamped the piece with this NBUS butterfly stamp, then used a Lavinia stencil
on the opposite side keeping the inking light.
The sentiment stamp is from the set, and was inked lightly for a little extra interest.
I love this technique because I have trouble with smudging when I stamp
on Yupo or glossy paper.
I'm hoping to take the time to watch more of her videos from this workshop
and hopefully try more of her techniques.
On a different note....
I love snowy days! Mainly because we don't get many of them. I was excited
to look out Saturday morning and see this.

I too love Eileen's work, and I wouldn't have thought of doing the background on the yupo and then transferring by taking a print which has worked beautifully Bonnie, and I love the added stencilled leaves and the pretty black inked butterfly image looks wonderful over the top...a gorgeous card. x

ReplyDeleteSuch a clever technique and then to be able to stamp onto cardstock. The alcohol ink colours are so pretty and once pulled onto the card sure do make a very pretty pastel background. Great stamping and stencilling and such a unique and creative card Bonnie x.

I love your card - such beautiful soft colours - a great contrast to the black of the butterflies. The stencilling balances them perfectly. I must check out Eileen's FaceBook workshop.

Love the contrast of the blacked winged beauties over the soft background you created. This is fabulous, Bonnie! Our niece was just complaining that they get ice in NC and not snow, which disappoints her kids! Hopefully they got a chance to play in some of the white stuff this time!

ReplyDeleteBeautiful card, Bonnie. Alcohol inks are great for creating backgrounds. You did it excellent. I like pastel colors combined with black stamped butterflies. The use of the stencil is great to and makes very artistic look.

I LOve the fabulous soft pastels you created with AI, Bonnie! The background is ethereal, and it's perfectly in contrast to the black butterflies. The stenciling and the light sentiment stamping add so much depth to the background.

Gorgeous soft background!… hard to believe it is from AI! I usually equate AIs with vibrant bold colours. Thank you for sharing the technique. You got fabulous results and turned it into a beautiful card. Can’t wait to pull out my NBUS alcohol lift solution to try this!
