This month's Zoom with the Group of Seven Cardmakers was messy but
gave fabulous results.
There are instructions and a video link at the GOSC site along with some of the
cards the group has done using this technique.
The first step is to add some sticky sheet to a piece of cardstock and press
gilding flakes into all the sticky and burnish it. I used a scrubby pad that came with
the Indigo Blu gilding set I bought several years ago.
After dry embossing it, we swiped with black permanent ink.
The other gals got much better results with the ink. I'm thinking my inkpads
may need some refreshing.
I cut my piece to get two cards. Here is the second...
You can put two gilded pieces in the embossing folder back to back so you
get an embossed and a debossed side. I got a picture of both before I put them on cards.
This shows the debossed side better.
Or is it the embossed side?

That technique makes beautiful backgrounds, Bonnie, especially for your gorgeous vellum butterfly. No gilding flakes here so I won't be trying this but I still love looking at the results.

ReplyDeleteYour cards turned out beautifully. I really like the fact that you didn't get full coverage with your ink on the raised parts - it allows more of the gilding flakes to show. The card with the butterfly is absolutely gorgeous - what a great idea to do the butterfly base out of vellum!

ReplyDeleteTwo terrific cards using this great technique Bonnie, and I love the look you achieved on both, and the added die cut butterfly beautifully backed with the vellum, and the silhouette flowers and gold on black sentiment are wonderful, and the gilding stands out beautifully against the black card, then the second with the super die cut leaves..so shiny and with specks of gold which look fabulous! x

ReplyDeleteIt's a technique that produces gorgeous results and I think your panels look amazing even though you said your black ink didn't work so well. Love the die cut leaves in black. Stunning with the gilded background.

I actually like your light black inking because the gorgeous shine and mix of colors of gilding flakes are not covered up too much by the ink. The vellum wings of the butterfly definitely adds a special elegant touch to the background. Great work, my friend!

Wow, love these cards Bonnie! The backgrounds are so elegant and classy. The silhouettes pop off the embossed backgrounds. How fun it must have been to make them, love this idea and can't wait to try it myself. Never would have thought to drag a Stazon on ink pad over the gilded embossing! I think I'm gonna need more colors than black now. LOL Hugs, Brenda
