Hi there. I'm so glad you stopped by!
I have some more gilding and embossing from our
During our Zoom session, Julia pointed out that her pieces felt sticky.
Mine did too. So I had the brilliant idea to put embossing powder over it and heat
emboss. It got rid of the sticky, but also covered up a lot of the variegation in the
gilding flakes. It was usable though and made a lovely Christmas card.
Here's a sample of what the piece looked like before gold embossing powder.
This time I used clear embossing powder. It left the variegation in color and got rid
of the stickiness.
Have you tried this technique yet?

Your sweet and thoughtful comments warm my heart!
Today your gilding isn't the only star of the show, Bonnie - just love those gold snowflakes!
ReplyDeleteThe clear embossing powder was the way to go! Did you discover why your gilding felt sticky in the first place? two more darling Christmas cards!
=]
Two beautiful cards using the pieces you made following the gilding flakes and embossing technique Bonnie, and I think the star looks beautiful as does the wonderful vellum with the gold stars as a background, and then the sweet die cut bird on the next and I love the 3D embossed piece within the stitched rectangle as a delightful white on white background. A great idea to use the embossing powders over the top to seal it too. I do have a piece I made last night which I think well become a card shortly, and having looked at some you tube videos I did the same thing and sealed it with clear embossing powder which works well. x
ReplyDeleteOooh, I missed that tip and love it, Bon! Thank you for doing it and showing how it worked. You've blown my socks off AGAIN and I have that gorgeous vellum snowflake paper ... hmmm ... have I told you lately how much I love you? Hugs, Dolly
ReplyDeleteYour big gold star is so pretty and so are the small stars, love your card. That bird is cute too. TFS
ReplyDeleteSo cool
ReplyDeleteThat star is gorgeous on the snowflake vellum, Bonnie. The heat embossing really changed it but I still love it for a star. The bird looks good with the variation so clear embossing was the way to go.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant idea, Bonnie, to put embossing powder over the stickiness. I must try that with the piece I have left. I agree the clear ep is better than the gold for allowing all those gorgeous colours to show through. Two great cards! I love the large star set against the printed vellum. The bird is beautiful and perfect set against the pine embossing folder.
ReplyDeleteBoth are beautiful but that first one is a big WOW and my favorite. LOVE!

TFS your wonderful embossing technique to get rid of the stickiness, Bonnie. I love your gold star Christmas card with the vellum snowflakes designer paper background. I agree the 2nd card with your beautiful textured bird is even more beautiful with the clear EB powder so your gilded flakes bird does not get covered up. So awesome trying the tecniques that all the creative GO7 Girls have already figured out the possible issues and share your gorgeous sample cards:-) I will be trying this technique...great for 2023 Christmas cards that I am way behind creating:-) Love and Hugs..Nancy
ReplyDeleteOh, great idea! Even with the gold embossing there is still some variation and it's a gorgeous star for your Christmas card. Sweet pretty bird, too, and the clear embossing did the trick. Wonderful!
ReplyDeleteTwo beautiful cards! I do enjoy your posts too, Bonnie. I love that you persevere even when things did not quite go as planned and each time you end up with a beautiful card. I still have not tried this but hope to do it soon. Great idea using the embossing powder to cover up the stickiness.
ReplyDeleteSticky or not, they're both pretty! I like what your heat embossing did to the star, it's marvelous!
ReplyDeletetwo beautiful cards, interesting adding some embossing powder to remove the stickiness xx
ReplyDeleteBoth are pretty cards, but I do enjoy the variegation of the flakes -- it makes more interest through the colors
ReplyDeleteTwo more beauties Bonnie - they are both stunning in their own ways. The colours on the bird are gorgeous
ReplyDeleteBlessings

You "Seven ladies" are sure having fun with your techniques Bonnie, your gilding flake cards are fabulous... seems I might have to dig out my stash and give it a go too.. love the cards, hugs Robyn
ReplyDeleteWow..that Christmas star is a stunner, and the embossed snowflakes on the vellum. As you say the clear powder was the way to leave your gilding flakes to show best, but two beautiful cards that I think you will find hard to part with. xx
ReplyDeleteNo, I haven't yet, but obviously I need to get busy as you have another 2 STUNNING cards Bonnie! I love the star with all the snowflakes, but my favorite is the bird...using clear embossing powder was definitely the way to go! Lovely, lovely cards my friend! Hugs. :0)
ReplyDeleteHi Bonnie,
ReplyDeleteHappy Rudolf Days.
/what a very stunning card and such a great technique too.
Love your idea of the embossing powder over the top it as it finishes it all off perfectly.
Such a cute bird in the second card.
Thank you for joining the Rudolf Challenge.
Lots of crafty love. Jenny L. DT
So pretty Bonnie! Love the snowflakes behind your lovely star - and your beautiful die cut bird - it is nicer to see all of the colors in your gilding flakes! Great experiment using embossing powder over it. It looks like you didn't rub black ink over the star after embossing? and you did for the bird? Julia xx
ReplyDeleteTwo stunning card Bonnie. Thank you for joining in the fun at Rudolph Days this month.
ReplyDeleteSue xx
This card is stunning! Loving all the golden beauty here.
ReplyDeleteThanks for taking part in the Rudolph Days Challenge.
Did you all use the same type of glue to hold the gilding flakes down? Just was wondering if that was the case for all glues. I used Zig liquid glue and thought my gilding was a bit sticky as well. But then another time it wasn't. Not sure if maybe I used too much. I never thought that the embossing power would have cover most of the gilding flakes though but I guess being sticky all over, it makes sense. Still a gorgeous look-I am totally loving your gorgeous Christmas card Bonnie! It really does shine beautifully, so I can imagine how it looks in person. Love the gold "joy" sentiment in the center of the star. At first I thought you embossed it in there. There really is a huge difference between the star and your sweet bird, love them both though! Both cards so beautiful! Hugs, Brenda
ReplyDeleteBeautiful card Bonnie!
ReplyDeleteThanks for playing at the ABC Christmas Challenge!

Your card looks so rich thanks to all that gilding. And the embossing on vellum makes the gilding lose a bit of its heaviness. Great connection!
