African Daisies

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I'm sliding in at the Altnew challenge at the last minute.

I did a card for this challenge a couple weeks ago and tried some creative die cutting
that totally ruined the piece.  It's taken a while to find time to try again.

The leaves are really green IRL.  I don't know why they show yellow here.

It will have to do.

I've stamped with amalgam ink for a no-line look and watercolored with my
Altenew 36 pan set.  After coloring I trimmed down the piece a bit and used the
trimmed piece as a divider between the embossed edge and flowers.

Challenges:
Altenew July Inspiration Challenge - Soft Watercolor Layers

Gingerbread Tree

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

This month has flown by!

I've had this tree in mind since I first saw the challenge at Christmas Kickstart the first
of this month.  I was glad it turned out somewhat as I had in my mind.  It doesn't always
go that way.

When I make gingerbread, a few cinnamon hots are all I want to decorate.  But the kids
go all out in decorating their gingerbread.  For example....

I kind of took the middle road here and added a
little icing along the edges and some red to a few of spots.

Won't be long before we'll be doing Cookie Day again.

More Coloring of Dry Embossing

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

Another technique for July's Group of Seven Cardmakers
Coloring Embossing Folders.

This time I used Inkpad Swiping by Erum Tasneem.

Spellbinders Seahorse Garden fits perfectly with their Scattered Shells 3D Embossing Folder.

I really love the look of colored embossing and enjoy all the ways of doing it
for my cards.  I'm sure you'll be seeing more of it in the future.

You can see other examples and fantastic inspiration at

Coloring Dry Embossing

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

This month the Group of Seven Cardmakers are coloring dry embossing.
Today I'm sharing two techniques.  One is colored with ink that is sponged or brushed on
with blending brushes.  The other is watercoloring.

First up is sponging...

supplies used

Since the flowers and leaves are quite small with this embossing folder, I used mini
sponge daubers that I bought at Michaels.

Next is watercoloring...

supplies used

I embossed Arches cold press watercolor paper for this one.
There is a learning curve as the embossing changes the texture and absorption of
the watercolor paper.

I wasn't happy with the scrolls so I "painted" them with water and sprinkled gold
embossing powder over them and heat embossed.

I find that 3D embossing folders work best for coloring.

There are video tutorials and more inspiration at

Sunflowers

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

The sunflowers are starting to bloom around here and I was inspired to have a play
with this die from my NBUS box.

This first one was colored with Copics.  I used some Press and Seal on the back
so the pieces of the petal didn't wander away.  The little ladybug is two circles cut from
red & black cardstock. Dots are added with a Ultrafine Sharpie.

It doesn't show in the photo but the flower sits on a piece of textured cardstock.
The strip is a snippet of Neenah Solar White colored with one of the Copics.
It's going to our neighbors who brought me a bouquet of sunflowers.

Next up is not as CAS...

This one was cut from mixed media paper.  I colored it with Tombow markers, moving
the colors with a damp waterbrush.  I laid it on another piece of mixed media paper to catch
my messy painting for the background.

I need a lot more practice with the Tombows or I need to stick to my Distress markers.

There's a new challenge out there by the very active Darlene & Diane.  It's a CAS challenge
so the first card will definitely go there. I was happy to see other CAS challenges right now.
You'll find the links below.

Three Little Birds

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

When I was designing for a class, I tried different color combinations
with this fun stamp.  I ended up using the colors from the second card and the
layout from the first.  So the no go's ended up here.

I love blue and yellow together and I'm not sure why this didn't make a go.
I think I didn't have enough of this color cardstock for a group.

I had a lot of this cardstock and I'm trying to get my stash down since I lost a drawer in my
file cabinet.

I've stamped and heat embossed the design to make it easy to watercolor by picking
up ink from the lids of the inkpads with a damp waterbrush.

I'll add sentiments when I'm ready to send these.  My snippet stamps will work
well on them.

Olive and Berry for Color Hues

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I'm excited to be Guest Designing at Color Hues this week.

I love these colors and knew exactly what I wanted to use!

After buying this embossing folder, I realized that the stencil would be a really big
help in coloring the embossed berries.  The stencil recently arrived in the studio and this was
the perfect time to try it out.

After using the stencil to add colors (Berry Burst then Gorgeous Grape), I used a
white gel pen to add dots to the berries.  I thought the berries could use a little highlighting
so I daubed a little white ink over them.

When I decided to die cut the edge, I realized that it would probably press out the embossing
but it was easy enough to put the colored and cut piece back in the embossing folder
and get all that dimension back.  It's actually a good idea to always re-emboss after coloring.

I did another and didn't add the white ink swiping.

I like this too.

I can't wait to see how you use these colors!

Poinsettia Bloom

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

It's a busy week here so this will be a quick post.

I wanted to join in at Peace on Earth and I'm about to run out of time.

Here is the mood board.

I was inspired by the bottom left corner.

I die cut the poinsettia from red cardstock and sponged a bit more red for shading.  I shaped
the petals with my fingers and added some Nuvo Crystal Drops for the center. There are lots
of other floral and leafy die cuts with this set and I used a couple of them to tuck in around
the flower.

A little embossing and a foiled sentiment finish this off.

Card Recipe
Stamps:
Ink:
Paper:   Neenah Solar White, Real Red, Shaded Spruce
Other:  Holiday Blooms Dies (Spl), Scenic Poinsettias 3D EF (Spl), Holiday Sentiments Glimmer Plate (Spl), Gold Foil (Spl), Essential Arches Dies (Spl)

Mistletoe

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

Another Christmas card for the stash.

I die cut this fabulous mistletoe from Neenah Solar White cardstock and colored
with Copic markers.  I layered two branches for depth and cut the berries from
white glitter paper and colored them with the light green Copics.

The sentiment was done the same way and all was placed on an embossed background.

Paper:   Neenah Solar White, Twinkling Jewels Glitter Pad, Dazzling Diamonds Glitter Paper

Seahorse Garden

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

Today I have a CASE of a card I saw here using the Seaside Garden set from Spellbinders.

I had a gel print using this technique that the Group of Seven Cardmakers did a
couple months ago. I thought it would work perfectly for an underwater scene.

This NBUS set has some wonderful ocean elements along with the sweet seahorse and
there are dies as well as the stamps.  Lots of bang for the buck!

I stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and colored the seahorse, shells and grass
with Copic markers then die cut everything out.

I stamped some more grass on my background and arranged the colored elements using
some dimensionals.  Then I stamped the bubbles on the background and placed it all on this
fantastic 3D embossing.  I left the net in the background because I didn't want this seahorse to
get caught in it. :-0

Challenges:
Krafty Chicks #671 - Stamp Act
NBUS #52 - Never Before Used Schtuff
Simon Says Wednesday - Alcohol Ink

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Seahorse Garden (Spl)
Ink:   Memento Tuxedo Black, Island Indigo, Soft Suede
Paper:   Neenah Solar White
Other:  Alcohol Ink (bottom 1/4 Pool, next 1/3 Patina, top Sailboat), 91% Alcohol, Gel Plate, Copics (R20, R22, R24, YG03, YG17, YG67, E0000, E00, E01, E33), Cast Away 3D EF (Spl), Seahorse Garden Dies (Spl)
