Let us Adore Him

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

Today I have another Christmas card for my stash.

I've die cut a background of smooshed watercolor from my stash and cut another
from Silver Foil cardstock.

This is my favorite Nativity die and it doesn't have a name, so I'm not sure where
it came from.

I had the heart background that I'd done with embossing paste and it just seemed
a perfect fit.  My favorite Memory Box Star cut from glitter cardstock adds
a finishing touch.

Challenes:
ABC Christmas - J is for Jesus
Jingle Belles - Use cardstock. No patterned paper
Krafty Chicks #715 - Christmas

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Simple Strips Christmas (Taylored Expressions)
Ink:   Embossing,

Jan's Birthday

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

Here's another foiled design that I did when my friend Nance came to play.

It went to another friend who's birthday was last week.

Since it was foiled on Neenah Solar White, I again colored with Copics.

I tucked it in and out of a die cut oval piece that was embossed with
the Subtle Embossing Folder.

Edited to add:  I wasn't thinking about Monday and Darnell's I.D.E.A.S.
This flower was also die cut and her D stands for Dies.

Challenges:
Pinkfresh Studio - Theme Flower Power

Card Recipe
Stamps:  All Occasions (JD)
Ink:    Emb Ink
Paper:   Neenah Solar White
Other:  Thankful for Friends Hot Foil Plate (PFS), Gold Foil (Spl), Glimmer Machine, Copics (V06, V09, V15, Greens ?), Subtle EF (ret SU)

Peony Garden

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

Quite a while back my friend Nance came for a play day and brought
some of her glimmer plates for me to try.

This Peony Print was one of them.  I foiled them in pewter and in gold.

They sat in my UFO box for some time and I decided it was time
to finish them up for cards.

This is with the pewter foiling.

I colored it with Copic markers.  I'm sorry that I didn't make a notation of which
markers I used.  Usually I do that before I put the markers away.

All that was needed was a foiled sentiment on a piece of vellum to finish this up.

This one done with the gold foil worked perfectly for my brother and sister-in-law's
50th anniversary.

I found a snippet of a textured gold cardstock to put the sentiment on.

New and Not so New

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I'm playing with a couple of challenges today and pulled out a new to me
die set that was recently bought on whopping good sale.

It made a great background for these older dies (probably not available anymore)
from Memory Box.

I die cut the watering can from light gray cardstock and inked it a bit with some
Distress Ink and a finger dauber.

The flowers were die cut from watercolor paper and also colored with ink.
I touched them with a damp waterbrush to give them a watery look.

I did have a bit of trouble cutting this background piece.
I ended up using a dryer sheet with 80 lb paper and a new cutting plate.

I think it was worth the trouble and the $5.00 that I paid for it.

Here's a closer look.

The inside die cut piece is doubled for a bit of depth and the watering can was cut
a second time from a snippet of dark gray to offset with the lighter gray front.

I used my tiny circle punches to cut the centers for the flowers and dots on the
watering can.

The sentiment was computer generated.

Challenges:
Just Us Girls #725 - Color Challenge (Peach, Lavender, Gray)
NBUS #62 - Never Before Used Schtuff (Background Die)
Tic Tac Toe #246 - (Diagonal Flowers, Free, Die Cuts)

Iris Hugs

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I'm getting Inky with Darnell this morning.

The irises blooming in our neighbors yard inspired me to get out this Iris stamp
from Altenew and have a play.

I inked the stamp with Tombow markers, spritzed and stamped onto Mixed Media paper,
then blended the ink with a damp brush.

After it dried, I used a clean, wet brush and dragged it over some of the petals to
remove some of the color.  I got some bleeding, but I liked the effect so I left it alone.

I wanted a loose watercolor look so I wet the area around the flowers touching the edges
and blending out.  A few splatters finished it off.

Challenges:
Color Hues #86 - Lilac and Lime
Darnell's I.D.E.A.S. - Ink/Color Mediums
Double D - Inspired by purple violets (top right)
The Flower Challenge #91 - Colour Your Flower (watercolored)

Card Recipe
Stamps:  PAF Iris (Alt), Special Sentiments (PB)
Ink:   Gorgeous Grape, Tombow Markers (636, 126, 177)
Paper:   Mixed Media, Gorgeous Grape, Neenah Solar White
Other:

Enjoy!

Santa's New Friend

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I recently won the random draw at ABC Christmas and Lynda sent
me some Gerda Steiner Christmas stamps.

It didn't take long to ink this one up.

I colored the image with Copics and fussy cut them out.

Unfortunately I got a smudge of black on Santa's beard during the cutting.

I tried the 0 marker but it doesn't remove black any better than it removes red!

I hated to ditch it so I tried some white Gouache over the smudge.

Then Santa had a pink splotch on his beard.

Some more Gouache and homemade Flower Soft (made from rubbing
two Styrofoam balls together), I was able to cover up the oops.  And I used the
leftover Gouache for splatter.

Challenges:
ABC Christmas - H is for Hat
Jingle Belles - The Man with the Bag (in this case he's put down the bag to enjoy the kitty)

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Santa and Kitten (Gerda Steiner), Jingle All the Way (MFT)
Ink:   Memento Tuxedo Black, Real Red

Pressed and Stenciled Cosmos

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I think I'm on the right week now!
After being cornfused last week about which week we were on with
Darnell's I.D.E.A.S, I pulled out another NBUS stencil to
color a pressed design.

The Betterpress Cosmos Backdrop plate is NBUS too and I pressed it a couple of
different ways.  This first card was a second pull and evidently there was no ink
left on the plate.  It left a nice debossed image though and I was able to line the
stencils up easily.  There are 5 stencils with this set.  I used the same ink for both
layers of the petals and leaves.

After stenciling, I tore a piece of vellum to place the die cut beautiful and
heat embossed you.

I had also pressed it trying Versafine Clair Morning Mist ink.

I started out with yellow flowers and wasn't happy with the colors.
So I went over them with Distress Marmalade.  Didn't like that either.
Out came the Stampin' Up Tangerine Tango and Old Olive.

Good enough though not great.

This new die set was handy for covering up most of it.

Thanks again, Darnell for inspiring me to get out those stencils.

Elegant Writer for Group of Seven Cardmakers

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

Another month and another fun technique shared with the Group of Seven Cardmakers.

This is a technique that I've been wanting to try and it was as much fun as
I thought it would be.

I did a few projects.

First up was a feather stamp that I think will make a great anniversary card for my OH.

I inked onto nuxed nedua paper with permanent ink and let it dry before adding a little
bit of Elegant Writer along some of the lines in the middle of the feathers.

After going over it with a wet waterbrush, the ink blended into mainly gray.
I couldn't seem to get the blues and pinks.

Next...

I die cut some more feathers from mixed media paper, scribbled the Elegant Writer on
my palette, spritzed with water and smooshed the die cuts into the ink.

and...

This titmouse stamp has been in my NBUS box for years.

I put the stamp in my MISTI and inked it with the elegant writer.  I inked small
sections at a time because I wasn't sure how long it would stay wet.

When he was all stamped, I touched the waterbrush to the ink.
This time I got some browns with the grays and I began to wonder if I needed
new Elegant Writers.  The ones I was working with were pretty old.

So I ordered a new set from Amazon.

New markers make a BIG difference.

Again I inked the stamp with permanent ink and added some Elegant Writer
to some of the lines before adding water.

I finally got some pink and more blue-gray shades.

For splatters, I scribbled Elegant Writer on my palette and picked up ink with
a really wet brush to splatter.  I added some chunky gold embossing powder too.

Finally...

I got a little more pink on the wings of this stamping and matched it with
Fresh Freesia cardstock.  Then to make it even more feminine, I covered the wings
with Quickie Glue pen and sprinkled some fine glitter over top.

I was able to get some aqua and brighter pink on my paper towel.
Maybe someday I can get those colors on an image.

I hope you'll check out the Group of Seven Cardmakers site to find links to videos
using the Elegant writer and written instructions.  There's also a linky in case you try this
and want to share with us.

The rest of the GO girls got fantastic results and have some tips and tricks
to share with you too.  I hope you'll check them out.
