Fun Friday Bees

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

It's time for fun on Friday.  No challenges, just fun.

I am on a committee to support staff at a local elementary school.

I thought it would be fun to send them a card with a bookmark, hoping they
will have a chance to read for fun during the summer.

The image was stamped on a piece of cardstock with a punched top.
I heat embossed the stamping to get an nice shine.

A yellow Sharpie was handy so I colored the bee with that and blended
a bit of blue around him.  My ink blending is always splotchy so I stamped
some splatters to kind of cover that up.

Without the bookmark.

A little band holds the bookmark to the front of the card which had been
embossed with a new to me (on clearance) embossing folder.  I used my favorite
trick of patting with a white inkpad to highlight the raised design.

The message inside.

Our team supports four of the support staff that counsels, teaching remedial reading,
STEM & Speech therapy.  Each card is a bit different.

I patted the natural embossing with a pale yellow inkpad and it was too dark
and splotchy.  So I patted with the white inkpad over top and that toned it
down perfectly.

I hope you have some crafty fun today!

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Peeking Bee (Unity)
Ink:   Nocturne (VC), Whisper White, Soft Sky
Paper:  Neenah Solar White, Daffodil Delight
Other:  Clear EP, Yellow Sharpie, Bee-cause 3D EF (SB), Ornate Tag Topper Punch (ret SU)

Fuchsia Note

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

What a glorious spring day as I write this!

This is not a flower that I'm very familiar with, but when I saw this
embossing folder, stencil combination, I was intrigued.

Then it was on sale and it caught me.

This was not my first try.

My first try almost convinced me to say no to
any more stencils!  I seem to have an issue lining them up whether I emboss
first of after coloring.

So I stood up to line the stencil on the embossed image.  It's still hard for me to
see, but it did line up better.

Will I be buying more embossing folder, stencil sets?  Maybe.

Will I be comfortable using stencils eventually?  Hopefully.

I used blending brushes and Distress inks for all the coloring.

I used the finer point of an Arteza Twi-marker for the stamens.

Just Us Girls #825 - ATG using a stencil

Pink & Turquoise for Color Hues

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

It's time for another Color Hues challenge.

This month it was my turn to choose our colors.  I chose....

I was thinking flamingos when I chose these colors.

I die cut this flamingo from watercolor paper and colored with Distress Re-inkers.

For the background, I embossed a piece of Turquoise cardstock and patted
with a white pigment ink to bring out the raised feathers.

It was really fine with that, but I added die cut palm leaves for even more
dimension.  There's more layers than I usually have, but I'm happy with it.

Now let's go and see what my talented friends and our
fantastic Guest Designer Kim Miller have done to inspire you.

I hope you'll create a card using Pink & Turquoise and add it to the gallery at

Challenge ends at 9:00 AM on June 14th.

The winners will be posted an hour before our next challenge and the overall
winner will have the opportunity to be a future Guest Designer.

Most importantly, just have fun!

Card Recipe
Stamps:
Ink:  Whisper White, BP Black
Paper:  Tempting Turquoise, Neenah Solar White, Watercolor (Canson)
Other: Distress Re-inkers (Spun Sugar, Worn Lipstick), Feather Spiral EF (SSS), Feathered Friends 12 (PTI), Curved Cap Pinpoint Layers (MB), Palm Fancy die (HA), A little Message PP & die (SB)

Falalalala

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

This little elfette has been singing away in the box on the shelf.
She finally caught my undivided attention so she could perform for all of you.

This is probably my favorite Penny Black Christmas stamp.  Maybe because I love
Christmas carols and most of my friends do too.

When we make Christmas cards together in the fall, we sing along to my favorite
Time Life Christmas CDs.  It makes for even more fun to be together.

She was colored with Distress Inks or Distress re-inkers.  I don't remember
which, and cut with the companion die.

The background is a piece of re-inker & frost white paint smoosh
from my stash of backgrounds.

Flutters

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

Another just for fun Friday with some new butterflies.

I seem to be obsessed with the die and embossing folder sets.  This one is one of my
all time favorites!

For the first card, I embossed a piece of Cantaloupe cardstock and patted over the
raised parts with a white ink pad.  (I use a large inkpad to do this.)

Then I cut some butterflies and embossed them to get the wonderful detail.

A little ink in the center of the butterflies tie them into the background and
I had a perfect sentiment stamp and die set in my NBUS box to add to the card.

This time I used an aqua cardstock and ink and a favorite saying.

I thought it needed something extra and added a daisy for the wildflower.

Since this is their first outing, I'll add them to Darnell's NBUS challenge #86.

Card Recipe
Stamps: Nature's Dance (SB)
Ink:   Memento Tuxedo Black, Whisper White, Crisp Cantaloupe
Paper:  Neenah Solar White, Crisp Cantaloupe, Gold Foil
Other:  Butterfly Escapades EF & Die (SSS), Nature's Dance dies (SB)

Card Recipe
Stamps: Butterfly Mornings (Crafty Individuals)
Ink:   Memento Tuxedo Black, Coastal Cabana
Paper:  Neenah Solar White, Coastal Cabana, Gold Foil
Other:  Butterfly Escapades EF & Die (SSS), Label Die (Emily Moore Designs), Daisy Silhouette Die (MB), Copics (C00, YG82, YG15)

Enjoy!

Bird in the Hemlock

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I've been lax in doing Christmas cards and will be sorry when it's time to send
them if I don't start working on them.

I didn't use this die set nearly enough last year.

The chickadee and pine boughs were cut from mixed media paper and watercolored
with a combination of inks.  I added some sparkly snow to the branches.

The embossing on the label was done with the nesting dies after it was cut.

Challenges:
Christmas Kickstart -  Season's Tweetings (Use a bird)
Simply Clean & Simple - Optional Theme: Things that Fly

Card Recipe
Stamps:  BP Fancy Sentiments (SB)
Ink:  Rustic Wilderness, Pine Needles, Vintage Photo, Smoky Gray, Basic Gray, Crisp Cantaloupe, Peach Parfait (SU), Black Marker (SU), Whisper White, BP Black (Spl)
Paper:   Neenah Solar White, Mixed Media (Strathmore), Kraft
Other:  Hemlock Cones & Chickadee dies, Scrolled Punch & Pierce Plate, Mirrored Arch Labels (all SB), Fancy Sentiments Die (SB), Sparkle Texture Effects (MS)

Enjoy!

Wildflowers

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

We finally got some rain and after 5 days in a row in the 90s, it was
a welcome relief.

Jen B's sketch at Freshly Made Sketches #737 is an easy one.

I pulled out an old calendar page for my main image, cutting it using
an oval die.  Since I didn't think you'd care to see the actual calendar, I cut
the bottom off the oval.

After matting it with a nice blue piece of cardstock, I put it on a piece cut
from Nance's cover plate.  She brought it for me to play with our last visit and
it was waiting patiently for just the right card to go with.

I may need to use this sketch again, and again.

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Wild Flowers (W+9), Cheers to You Press Plate (SB)
Ink:   Mowed Lawn, Peeled Paint, Blueprint Sketch, Festive Berries, Candied Apple (DM),
Betterpress Black
Paper:  Neenah Solar White , Blueberry Bushel
Other:  Charming Flora Cover Plate (Alex Siberia), Essential Modern Labels dies (SB), Into the Blooms: Wildwood (bee die)

Enjoy!

The Flowers and the Bees

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

Some of my sweet, sweet friends shared their Betterpress images with me.
I love coloring them and it's a good day when I can pull one out.

This time it's an Altenew image colored with Tombow Markers.

After I colored it and die cut it, I realized that the design had way too much on
the top and not enough on the bottom.

I tried my hummingbird dies but they were either too big or facing the wrong direction.

Then I thought of bees.

After searching my stash, I landed on these bees from the Greetery.

Life IS beautiful with friends like you.

We're back to summer heat so I'll be staying inside as much as possible for
a few days.  I'm glad to have an excuse to take a break on the yard work.

I've been playing with these butterflies a lot lately.  I'm not sure if any of them have
made it to my blog before, but I thought they would work well for the
