Turning the Page November 2018

Tomorrow we turn the page on our calendars to a new month.

I make calendars each year and I've been sporadic about sharing them with you so

I thought I'd set up a regular post on the last day of each month "Turning the Page".

I hope you enjoy these posts.

I have made a template and redo the days every year.

Sometimes I have a mistake in there.  It's always interesting to see

what and where!

By the way, the calendars are clipped together and can be displayed on an easel

or hung on a push pin or magnetic hook.  We all have a different way to display them.

Halloween is upon us...

I don't do many Halloween cards but had bought some Halloween stamps

that were on sale.  Couldn't pass up the bargain and had to use them.

This sentiment was lent to me by a friend.

I couldn't be rude and not use that either.

 

Some snippets of sparkly black paper and an old paper punch gave this one a little glamour.

I found this background already stamped and some felt stickers that were a gift.

And here's the one we did in last month's class.
The witches hat was patted with Versamark and clear heat embossed.

Guess I'd better get some treats ready....

Bejeweled for Autumn

Hello friends.  I hope you've had a fun and creative weekend.

I've done some stamping, sponging and splattering with one of

my favorite Penny Black stamps.

I've used my MISTI to ink and stamp the flowers and leaves and 

touched the ink with a damp water brush.

When I was happy with the flower, I removed it from the MISTI and

sponged some Distress Ink over and around, using a darker ink

around the edges.

A little splatter and a stamped sentiment finished the design.

Forest Scene

Hello friends.  I hope you're having a good weekend.

We had a very rainy, cold day.  It was great to stay inside and
play in the studio.

Some of my teammates used this die last year and I just had to have it.

Finally, I've used it!  Almost forgot why I bought it!

I die cut it from Neenah cardstock and popped it on a circle cut

from an alcohol ink background.

A die cut circle frames the scene.

I thought the background looked a bit like snowy mountains.

Bitty Bird for CAS Christmas

Hello friends.  I'm so glad you stopped by.

I have another card for CAS Christmas

This time it's a little bird but I think he makes a big impact.

A short time ago a friend came over to play with some salt and watercolor.

She'd never tried the technique and it was fun for both of us to watch how 

the salt changed our watercolor as it dried.

I used some pieces for a card for my class.

Here's that card.  Another bird.

I had some extra card sets and I wanted to change them up a bit.

You'll be seeing more salted pieces and this layout in the future.

Bashful Copper

We're using metal on our cards at CAS Mix Up this month.

I've used another piece of a heated copper die cut that dear Loll sent me a long time ago.

I put the flower on a piece of Brusho background.

I explain how I did it on this post.

I added a drop of alcohol ink to the flower center.

Here's another view that shows the shine of the copper better.

My mixed media are heated copper, Brusho watercolor, stamping, heat embossing and die cuts.

Thankful Pumpkin

Happy Friday.  I hope you've had a great week and have an nice weekend planned.

My friend Nance brought this pumpkin die last time she came to play.

I die cut several out of watercolor paper and had lot's of fun coloring 

them up using re-inkers.

I had this little leaf and tendril die in my stash.

It's a perfect fit!

I had seen Jennifer McGuire frame embossing a while back and 

thought that was a great idea, so I've done that for a background.

Nance did a card using this idea and stacked the frame.

It looks fantastic!  I should have done that.

Since I have a little tag, I'm hoping this qualifies for the

Less is More Challenge #382

A Christmas Cardinal for CAS Christmas

Susan is hosting our challenge this month.

We did a similar card in my class last month and I had a leftover set.

I stamped the bird with Archival ink on a snippet of watercolor paper and
colored him up with Zig Markers and a water brush, then fussy cut him.

By masking the edges of the die cut square, I could stamp the pine boughs
and keep a nice frame.  The branches were traced with a watercolor pencil.

The background got some subtle texture and stamped sentiment.

The Design Team and our Guest Designer, Sue have some
awesome inspiration cards.  And the gallery hold a bevy of beautiful birds.

Thankful for CAS Watercolour

Hello friends. Welcome to my blog.

Today I'm reminding you that there's still time to join in at CAS Watercolour where
we're celebrating our 2nd birthday with prizes!

I used my MISTI to ink this stamp with markers and stamp. 

Then moved the color with a water brush.

I continued stamping until I was happy with the colors, adding a

darker orange and brown here and there on the pumpkins.

When I was finished with the stamping, I swiped some Vintage Photo on my

palette and picked up color with the water brush to add a light wash.

The sentiment was die cut three times from brown cardstock and stacked

for dimension.

These colors are perfect for fall cards.

The Design Team along with our fabulous Guest Designer, Brenda

have some beautiful samples to inspire you!

Iced Watercolor

Hello friends.  Welcome!

Today I'm reminding that there's still time to join in at

CAS Mix Up
is hosted by the very talented Mac.

I used the Black Ice Technique and I've got to say that I was amazed at the results!

The pictures don't do it justice!

I used a small piece of silver foil cardstock and swiped some
Jet Black StazOn over it.

I let that dry then swiped some VersaMark over it and
covered it with clear embossing powder and heated it.

The shine is incredible!

I die cut with this darling watering can and shaped it with a bone folder.

For the background, I used some Distress ink smooshed on a piece of acetate 

and spritzed to add a splotch on the base of my watercolor paper and

a watercolor pencil and water brush to add some ground.

The flowers are die cuts from a dear friend.  I kept all the pieces intact 

and used Zigs and a water brush to color them.

I arranged them using dimensionals atop some stamped wildflowers.

The design piece was die cut and the base card was embossed with a larger die.

The card is larger than I normally make.  It's an A7 size.

My CAS Mix Up mixed media are: 

Metal using the Black Ice Technique, stamping, acetate smoosh, watercolor, die cuts, embossing with a die and heat embossing.

Our Design team with fabulous Guest Designer Pat have lots of

Pumpkin Harvest for Twofer

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

We've survived another major storm here.

So many people have lost so much.

Please keep them in your prayers and help out when and where you can.

And count your blessings.

I'm joining in at the Twofer Challenge #10 today.

I've used this sweet pumpkin from Impression Obsession for my cards.

Not much of a harvest.  It was a small garden!

For this card, I placed the stamp in my MISTI and inked it with markers.

I moved  the orange around with my water brush.

I swiped some ink on my palette and picked it up with the waterbrush to add more color.

When I was happy with the coverage, I stamped again to add back the details.

I've stacked some die cut layers and added them to a textured background.

I added some twine for extra interest but I think it's almost two much interest!

I couldn't decide where to add a sentiment so it will have to go on the inside.  I'll
probably use it for a Thanksgiving card or just to celebrate fall.

For this card I inked the stamp with a WOW Embossing Pad, 

stamped and heat embossed with copper powder.

I put some drops of re-inkers into the wells on a small palette and

picked up the color with my water brush to paint the pumpkin.

I rarely make a one layer card that I like, but this seemed enough to me.

I'll add this to the gallery at CAS Watercolour.

Joyful Pink Poinsettia

I counted up my Christmas cards the other day and I'm still at least 20 short.

So I need to get some more done.

This month Stephanie and Lauren are supporting Breast Cancer Awareness month.

They want to see pink Christmas cards and will donate to the

Breast Cancer Research Foundation

for every card entered in this challenge.

I hope this has enough pink in it.

I think this will fit at the Flower Challenge is celebrating their 2nd birthday!

 

The camera doesn't show the gold glitter I used for the flower center.

It sparkles really nice on my desk!

I've die cut the poinsettia bloom from a piece of shimmer spray background

and the stem and leaves from some Inka Gold smoosh.

As I write this, we are experiencing Hurricane Michael, now a topical storm.

Heavy rain and quite a bit of wind here but nowhere near as bad as they

had it in Florida.  So much devastation from hurricanes this year!

We are very blessed right here...and looking forward to fall like weather.

Multicolor Embossed Flutters

Hello friends.  I hope you are having a great weekend.

We've been busy with grandkids and daughters.

Fun times!

I had a fun play a while back using multi-layered heat embossing.

They ended up not really fitting with the challenge I was shooting for

so they were set aside.

It still seems to be summertime here in NC so the dragonflies are still flying!

For this first card, I covered the wings with Versamarker and sprinkled 

with Heat and Stick powder,  I heated it up and added Dazzling Diamonds.  

Then I used Versamarker on the body and black EP.

For the second card I used Black Marker to color body then heat embossed with black powder.

For the wings I used the Versamarker and Heat and Stick powder heated 

then coated with Dazzling Diamonds and heated again on wings.

Oops, I put too much heat on one wing and scorched it.

Some Versamarker and WOW Bright White  over scorched part of wings fixed that.

For the last card I inked the dragonfly body with Versamarker and embossed with 

Primary Blue EP.  The wings were coated with Versamarker and Heat and Stick Powder, 

heated then covered with Dazzling Diamonds.

Where the blue showed through on the edge of the wings, used Versamarker and 

Bright White EP.  The rhinestone covers the rest.

The background was made with the Cling Wrap Technique using 

Lindy's Magicals on Coated Paper.
