Turning the Page March 2022

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

Time to turn the page on our calendars to a new month.

I make calendars each year for my desk and my family.

I thought I'd set up a regular post on the last day of each month to share them.

I hope you enjoy my “Turning the Page” posts.

Here's our March page using Easter Blossoms by SU (retired)

By the way, the calendars are 4 ½ inches by 7 inches.

They can be clipped together and can be displayed on an easel or hung

on a push pin or magnetic hook.  We all have a different way to display them.

If you would like a word document with the calendar, email me (bonklass(at)gmail(dot)com.

and I will be glad to send it to you so you can design your own.

If your email address is not in your profile, I have no way to send this to you.

Email link is in my profile on the sidebar.

Enjoy!

Snowflake Joy

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

My apologies to those of you who are sick of snow.

I was inspired by this card by Vicky Papaioannou.

I used a 3D embossing folder to emboss the snowflakes on kraft cardstock.
I found that I was way too messy dragging an ink pad over the embossing or even
using a sponge dauber.  So I used a cotton swab dipped in white pigment ink and daubbed
on the raised portions.

I added some die cuts over top and it was done.

Unfortunately it took several tries to get a good photo! Grrr!

Challenges:
Christmas Kickstart - Sentiment Takes Center Stage
Peace on Earth - ATG Christmas
Rudolph Challenge - ATG Christmas
Edited to add:
Can You Handle the Pressure - Anything embossed. (Thanks for the reminder, D & D.)

Card Recipe
Stamps:
Ink:   Whisper White
Paper:   Kraft, Real Red, Neenah Solar White
Other:  Winter Snowflakes EF (SZ), Abundant Joy Die (Greetery), Stitched Alpiine Snowflakes Dies (PS)

Enjoy!

Two Fer Christmas

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

Challenges are getting ready to close so I'm hurrying to get these in.

First up for Jingle Belles...

I used a retired embossing folder for most of the pine branches and
gently rubbed some ink over the raised design with a sponge dauber and
Distress Oxide ink.  The branches on top were die cut and sponged also.  Then I
added a little glue and some glitter to make the branches sparkle.

The stocking has been die cut and embossed for texture. I found these little
pom-poms in my stash.  They sparkle!

As you can see the glitter has stuck all over the card front.
I'll have a sparkly Christmas box!

My twofer....

My sweet friend Christine is hosting at CAS Christmas and is
asking for a Winter scene.

I hemmed and hawed about what to do for this challenge and ended up with...

A die cut scene and added little die cut house.  I wanted to hang a wreath
on the door, but couldn't fine anything small enough.

Another very schparkly card!

CAS Christmas - Winter Scene
Jingle Belles - Stocking Holiday

A Day with Bobby

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

Not long ago, my friend Bobby came for a visit.  And she brought some card making
goodies with her.  We spent the day stamping, die cutting and glimmering.

She brought me a wonderful stamp and die set and since she has the same set, she
suggested we both make a card with it and post on the same day.

I was more than up for the challenge.

The set is Simple Stems from Waffleflower and here's my card.

You can see Bobby's card HERE.

There are lots of stamps in this set!

I stamped some on mixed media paper with VersaMark and heat embossed
with white powder.  To color, I used Stampin' Up! inks by squishing ink
into the lid and picking up the color with a waterbrush.

After I had images colored, I die cut them and played with some arrangements.
This was my favorite arrangement.

I also inked up some of the stamps with Distress Markers for a no-line look.

Before she left we decided to take a selfie.

We should have got a video!  We got to laughing so hard that we couldn't
hold the phones straight.  Fortunately we got one that was passable.

Next time we need to get a photographer.
And I hope we don't have to wait very long for a next time.

I had a blast Bobby, and our day together is filed under
Favorite Memories!  💓

Now over to Bobby's blog to see what she did with this set.
I hope you'll check it out too.

Hearts and Flowers

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I've had so much fun with hearts this month!

This time I used a NBUS stitched heart from Memory Box.
(I told myself that I had more than enough hearts, but this sweet stitched set
had to come stay with me!)

I used the heart that cut out from inside the stitched to emboss with the
Heart Bouquet Embossing Folder and popped it back in.

The poppy flowers were die cut from a piece of floating alcohol ink background.

I doodled around the edge for some more black contrast.

The Time Out Challenge is asking for us to CAS a card by my sweet and talented
friend Michele.  Here's her card....

I've been inspired by the stitched heart and used embossing for texture instead of
die cutting, decorated my heart with pink, and stuck with the love theme.

Challenges:
Time Out Challenge #207 - CASEing Michele
Double D Challenge - Shades of Pink
Memory Box #81 - Tickled Pink
NBUS #35 - Never Before Used Schtuff (Stitched Heart Die)

Pinkfresh Butterflies

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I had a playdate with my Glimmer machine and a sweet friend.

Another sweet friend had given me a gift certificate to Pinkfresh Studio and these
hot foil plates were ready to get warmed up.

I hot foiled these gorgeous butterflies onto mixed media paper and the
Art Deco plate onto some colored cardstock using gold foil.

I used Distress Markers and my waterbrush to color the butterflies and
cut some hearts out of a piece of the Art Deco.

Here you can see the glow of the gold....

You can't really see the subtle embossed background that adds just a bit of texture
and the frame was cut using some Pinkfresh Slim Rectangle dies.

Challenges:
NBUS #35 - Never Before Used Schtuff

I also watercolored the full butterfly and perched it on a full Art Deco piece
to say Thank You.

More Faux Cloisonné for CAS Mix Up

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

Just a reminder that there's still time to join in at

My mixed media are Faux Cloisonné, Stamping and Die Cutting

where Susan has challenged us to do a Faux Cloisonné mixed media technique.

I found a tiny portion of a magazine page and a stamp with some detail, but
not a lot.  After stamping the butterfly over the design, I heat embossed in gold
and fussy cut.  I also stamped the butterfly on a piece of vellum and cut it out to
mount the cloisonné piece to for extra body.  (In hindsight, I should have used
a scrap of cardstock as the vellum wants to curl.

Here's a view that shows the shine of the embossing.

There are tutorials at the challenge site as well as wonderful inspiration from
our talented Design Team.

I hope you'll give this technique a try and join us at

Card Recipe
Stamps: Flora and Fauna 2 (Wplus9), Cosmo sentiment (TT)
Ink:   Encore Gold, Tempting Turquoise
Paper:   Neenah
Other:  Magazine, Gold EP, Grand Greenery Outline Die (MFT), Double Pierced Square Die (ret. AvE)

Valentine

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

Happy Valentine's Day.

I hope you realize how much you're loved.

This is the card I made for my dear hubby.

I was so inspired by this card by Debbie Hughes of Lime Doodle and wanted to CASE it.

I didn't have the chickadee die but I had this sweet bird die from Penny Black in my
NBUS box.  I used a heart die in my stash and used an old embossing plate to add texture
along with some Chunky White Frantage.

The Love was stamped and embossed on linen cardstock.  I'm not sure I'd do that
again but it works okay for this.

The bluebird was watercolored after it was die cut.  I love the texture in this die!

It's hard to see the trees that are dry embossed in the background.
Maybe you can see it in this photo.

Not really, but you can see the shine from the embossing better.

I added a leaf cut from a snippet of mixed media paper and finished off
the card with some gold Nuvo Crystal Drops.

I'd like to try some of Debbie's mixed media techniques, but that will
have to be for a different day.

Now for some Valentine chocolate!

Sponging Runoff

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I made a discovery lately that I thought I'd share.
You've probably already discovered it yourself.
Sometimes I'm slow to pick up on things!

We were adding sponging to the edges of a leaf flourish die cut at my last class.
I noticed that there was a really pretty pattern on the paper mat after the sponging.
So I decided to put a the die cut on a clean piece of cardstock in order to catch
that pretty pattern.  It's masking, which isn't new, but it's like a bonus to another technique.

So I took some left over pieces that were sitting on the table, added some little gold
hearts and a stacked die cut to make another valentine.

Here you can see the shine of the gold better...

Posy Pocket with Daisies

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I had a pile of pieces on my table.  When I design for a class, I seem to always
have a large pile of "didn't works".  This didn't work because the color clashed
with the other cards.  It was a hurt your eyes, turn your stomach clash!

It turned into a lovely valentine for one of my daughters though.

The daisies were already die cut and in the envelope with the die.
I've cut two of each and stacked them for sturdiness.  The Pussy Willow
sprig is a single thickness.

I love this sweet little heart pocket die! It's perfect for holding a small
bouquet.  I've added a bow of organdy ribbon of the same color as the background.

As I look at this, I realize that I should have put the embossed piece the other
way up.  Oops! Hopefully I'll remember that next time.

Challenges:
The Flower Challenge - Occasions (Valentine's Day)
NBUS #35 - Never Before Used Schtuff (heart pocket die and sentiment)

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Friends (HA))
Ink:   Calypso Coral (SU), Mustard Seed, Bundled Sage, Shabby Shutters (DM)
Paper:   Neenah Solar White, Calypso Coral
Other:  Heart Leaf Posy Pocket (Greetery), Daisy Silhouette Dies (MB), Wildflowers Die (TH), Love Spun EF (American Crafts)
