Masked Stenciling for Group of Seven Cardmakers

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

Our Group of Seven cards this month use stencils and masks.

We used die cuts or torn paper under a stencil to mask off to make a
unique shape to the image.

I wanted to use some NBUS layering stencils that I had bought last year.
I'm not sure they were the best choice for this technique.

I die cut a scalloped curve for the first card.  If you look close you can see
the scallops.  They were invisible until I sponged around the flowers.

I need lots more practice on adding ink with a sponge or brush!
Some touch up with watercolor pencils helped with the detailing.

The dots are tiny black rhinestones.

I die cut with a bracket edge die to mask on the second card.  The flowers went over the
edge of the mask which made the shape show a little better.

After adding detail with watercolor pencils, I splattered with white gouache.
(I'm living dangerously!)  Fortunately I didn't ruin the whole thing.

The sentiment was heat embossed on a scrap of mixed media paper and
I sponged some of the purple ink over top.

I hope you go over to the Group of Seven Cardmakers Blog
and check out what my friends have done. You won't be sorry that you did.
And if you want to try this technique, there is a linky over there so you can
add to the gallery.

Merry Christmas

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I am making headway on my UFO box.  I'm almost done with the
Christmas UFOs.  Here's one from my December 2022 calendar page.

I think this was one of my favorite calendar pages!

I used a fancy die to cut off the calendar and used some foam sheet to pop
it over a leftover piece of decorative paper.

I recently got a Betterpress sentiment set and I think you'll be seeing a lot of it
in the future.  I love the font!

I have so far made over 20 Christmas cards from my UFO box.
Now onto the non Christmas.  Hopefully I can empty that out too.

Challenges:
Christmas Kickstart #83 - Something on a Christmas Tree
Peace on Earth #58 - Red ornaments

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Forever Fern (SU), Christmas Pines (SU)
Ink:   Soft Seafoam, Pear Pizzaz, Garden Green, Old Olive, Handsome Hunter, Real Red (SU)
Paper:   Neenah Solar White, DP (?)B, Red Glimmer (SU)
Other:  Heirloom Ornaments 5 (Spl), Scallop Borders 2 (PPP), BP Fancy Sentiments Strips (Spl)

Embossed Vellum

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I'm joining in solidarity with Darnell using an embossing folder
to hopefully uplift a friend.

I found this piece of embossed vellum in my UFOs and thought it was time to
find it a home.

The frame was also a UFO and worked perfectly to hold the vellum down.

Then some cutting and coloring with alcohol markers was all it took to
finish this card.

Challenges:
Darnell's IDEAS - Embossing folder week
Can You Handle the Pressure - Use embossing folder
Krafty Chicks - CAS week

Card Recipe
Stamps:
Ink:
Paper:   Neenah Solar White, Vellum

More Blue Daisies

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I used my Betterpress and Wild Daisies press plate and colored with Copics.
It's a CASE of this card I did recently.

This card started out as a large slimline measuring 4" x 9".

I was in too big of a hurry to start coloring and the ink smeared on the bottom flower.
So I pressed that flower on a scrap of Betterpress paper, let it dry, colored,
fussy cut and shaped it out to place on top of the offending flower.

Then I had the bright idea of splattering.

Oops!  Got some BIG splats at the top.

Cutting it into a Monarch size card left some splats.

So it became a mini slimline.

I was determined it wouldn't go in the UFO box and it needed to be in
the mail for my Sister-in-law's birthday.  I hope she likes it.

Challenges:
Seize the Birthday #277 - Add Splatters
Time Out #257- Happy 10th Birthday
Triple B - Birds, Butterflies, Blooms - (I have blooms but not from inspiration photo)
Try it on Tuesday - Hearts and/or Flowers

Card Recipe
Stamps:
Ink:   Betterpress Black
Paper:   Betterpress Porcelain, Black, Neenah Solar White
Other:  Wild Daisies Press Plate (Alt), A Little Message Pressplate (Spl), Copics (B21, B13, B26, Y15, Y18, G43, G46, Nuvo Simply White Crystal Drops

Enjoy!

Iris Pair

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I am so excited to be Guest Designing for Color Hues today.

The colors are perfect for Spring cards...Lilac & Mint.

I'm still trying to get through my UFO boxes and the iris image was on a
calendar page last year.  I had several versions in the box as well as two calendar pages.

I was in the process of trying to think what to do with them for my Craft Group
swaps this month and had an aha moment that these were the colors I needed for
the Color Hues Challenge.

I ended up die cutting another stencil from cardstock to add a couple more
backgrounds to be enough for the whole group.  After doing some other embossing and
die cutting for all the cards, I decided to die cut some more irises to add some
extra dimension.

I took this one out for Color Hues.  Here are the rest for the group.

Now to come up with a project for everyone to do.

Let's go see what that fabulous Design Team at Color Hues has done to
inspire our creativity!

Challenges:
Color Hues #81 - Lilac & Mint
NBUS #59 - Never Before Used Schtuff (Hexagon Frames)
Penny Black Saturday - Use Penny Black Images

Ink:   VersaFine
Paper:   Neenah Solar White, Fresh Freesia
Other:  Single Iris Die (PB) Hexagon Frames (PB), Tasteful Textures EF (SU), Heart Blooms EF (Spl), White EP

challenge is die cuts.

Eclipse of the Heart

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I'm back with my UFO box today.

I borrowed this stamp from a friend several years ago and stamped several.

It's a large stamp so I was able to cut some in half to get two mini slimline
cards from each image.  I had this one left and tucked it in the UFO box.

Can you see the eclipsed heart?

I still hyperventilate when I try to cut an image from a finished piece!
So far I've not been disappointed with the look.

The die cut love was also a leftover and the color seemed perfect.

Two UFOs found a home.

Challenges:
Double D - Heartfelt (Inspired by the heart on bottom left corner)
Just Us Girls #713 - Word Week (Love)
The Flower Challenge #88 -  Add a Heart (Love the new graphics)
Tic Tac Toe #240 - (used diagonal row (Rose (Flower), Die Cut, Word Love)

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Floral Garden (SSS)
Ink:   Shadow Gray Archival, Distress Markers
Paper:  Mixed Media, Neenah Solar White
Other:  Prim Hearts Die (Spl), Heartfelt Die (PB)

Enjoy!

Home Tweet Home

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

A friend of mine has recently moved into a new home and I wanted to send her
something to let her know how happy I am for her.

I stamped the birdhouse with Versafine Onyx Black ink heat embossed with clear powder.
Then I colored it with an Elegant Writer.Several of my friends have used this
technique to color and it's long been on my "got to try it" list.

I outlined some of the embossed lines of the birdhouse with a thin line of
Elegant Writer.  Then I used my waterbrush to move the ink around.
It breaks down into such pretty colors and works great for an aged look.

Since this friend likes color, I added some of her wall colors to the roof and
flowers on the birdhouse.

The background got it's watery look by spritzing a little water on the inked stamp
and pressing down several times.

I added the little bird flying home and some thinned re-inker to make the sky.

I hope she'll be happy in her new home and live there for a long, long time.

Challenges:
Penny Black Saturday - Use Penny Black with option of Wings

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Fly High, Floral Silhouettes, Woodland Beauty, Nature's Silhouettes (all PB)
Ink:   Versafine Onyx Black, Peeled Paint, Mowed Lawn, Rustic Wilderness, Lumberjack Plaid (DI)
Paper:   Mixed Media, Neenah Solar White
Other:  Clear EP, Elegant Writer, Tumbled Glass re-inker

Enjoy!

Red and Pink

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

There's more than one challenge so far this month to use red and pink.

I have enough valentines.  I have them done early this year which probably
means they will be sent late!

So I went for a birthday card.

One of the poppy stems was already cut out in my UFOs.
All I had to do was sponge some color on it.  Then I cut another and
sponged red on that and didn't like the shade of red I picked.

So I cut another large flower head from a scrap of red and popped it on top.
The centers were cut with a tiny flower punch and inked.

I stacked two pinpoint layers, embossing the top layer to display the flowers.

Since the background looked a bit bare to me,
I stenciled randomly on the card base.

Challenges:
Color Hues #80 - Red & Pink
Memory Box - Ink Blending

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Bitty Birthday Wishes (MFT)
Ink:   VersaMark, Bubblegum, Cherry, Woodsy (SSS)
Paper:   Neenah Solar White, Real Red, Black
Other:  Splendid Poppy Stems (MB), Curved Cap Pinpoint Layers (MB), Subtle EF (ret SU), Moroccan Lattice Stencil (Kite), White EP

Enjoy!
