Turning the Page September 2018

Tomorrow we turn the page on our calendars to a new month.

I make calendars each year and I've been sporadic about sharing them with you so

I thought I'd set up a regular post on the last day of each month "Turning the Page".

I hope you enjoy these posts.

By the way, the calendars are clipped together and can be displayed on an easel

or hung on a push pin or magnetic hook.  We all have a different way to display them.

August Flower Gladiolus

Hello and welcome.

I'm still working through the Year of Flowers.

This month the flower is gladiolus.

They were my grandfather's favorite flower.

There was a farm between our house and his that had a whole field
of gladiola in the summer and we would stop to buy a
bouquet to take along to him.

That field was so pretty with so many colors of flowers.

I've just done one color on mine.

I placed the stamp in my MISTI and inked it with Distress Markers.

After stamping I moved the ink with a damp water brush
then restamped until I was happy with the image.

After stamping a tiny sentiment, I die cut the piece
and placed it on a piece of foam to pop it up.

Starry Watercolor Tree

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by.

 

I've stamped the beautiful tree with Encore Gold ink and heat embossed.

The tree has been colored with Gansai Tambi Watercolours
and a soft wash in the background.

I've generously winked with Stella so it's very shimmery.
You can see it better here.

We've entered into Rudolph Days (the 25th of the month until the 31st)
so I'll take my tree over there to join in the fun.

Stitched Butterfly Blocks

Hello friends.  I hope you've had a great week.

Less is More has a sketch challenge that looked interesting to me.

So I thought I'd play along.

Since I'd pulled out this watercolor butterfly to play in the

Poppystamps Challenge, all I had to do was find a background to 

cut the squares from.

One square is a bit different because it was the first one I cut

and I misjudged what size would work.  So I cut a larger square

around the cut out and pieced them together.

They didn't fit perfectly, but close enough.  This splash background

had perfect colors to go with the butterfly and it was a little piece.

Not much room for error!

Since I can't cut, stamp or glue straight, I die cut a larger square

that the little squares would fit on. That made it easier to place and space

the small squares.  It added a bit of dimension too.

Snippets were used so I'll head over to Pixie's Playground.

Snail Mail

Hi there.  I hope you are having a good week.

We are having a welcome taste of Fall today.
It will be hot again in a couple of days, so I'm enjoying this gorgeous weather.

One of my dear friends recently took a tumble.

(That's a nice way to say she fell.)

She is in rehab now and will have a long recovery
not being able to put her weight on her leg for 3 to 4 months.

Ouch!

So she's moving a little slow these days and can use a lift.

I hope this lifts her spirits.

I've stamped this on a snippet of watercolor paper with
Archival ink and did a quick watercolor with my Zigs.

The front die cut piece is mounted on a foam sheet holding
the acetate a little away from the design.

It's a little tight doing a shaker this way and the little
shaker thingys want to get stuck.

Actually I think I like that better than them all landing at the
bottom of the window.

Snowy Delicate Pine

Hello friends.

I had a play with my new Memory box Delicate Pine Frame.

You may have noticed that I love frames on my cards.

This die has two frames.  Double the fun!

I've cut the smaller frame with the tree attached from some Neenah cardstock.

Then I cut the larger frame from another piece of Neenah cardstock.

 I've adhered a piece of Brusho background behind the tree frame and put some

Sparkle Texture Paste, (a birthday present from my dear friend, Loll) over my 

Falling Snow Stencil to give the appearance of a wintry day.

When the paste was dry, I laid it all back in the negative space.

I was amazed at how the second frame stepped up the card, so I glued that on top.

The little birds come with the die.  I've put the three on the card front

and the other two on the inside with the sentiment.

Magic Butterfly and Stencil Monoprint

Hello dear friends.

I hope you're having a wonderful weekend.

I've been seeing Alexandra Renke products on your blogs and couldn't resist 

buying a few things for myself.

We are such an enabling community!

I LOVE this butterfly die and cut it three times from watercolor paper.

I watercolored one die cut using some re-inker and water.

The other two die cuts were glued together and I used the watercolor around the edges.

When the butterfly was dry, I used a black marker to color in the body and antennae.

Waiting for it to dry is the hardest but most necessary part!

One of my online friends had enabled me to find some black Lindy's Magicals

and I played with the stencil monoprint technique using some of that

magical powder.  It's amazing to see all the colors in this black powder.

This piece was a second pull from the monoprint.

You can get a peek at the Alexandra Renke Washi tape I put on the inside of the card.

Twofer Geometry

Hello.  I'm so glad you could stop by today!

I'm playing with the Twofer Challenge today.

Here's the challenge....

Geometry wasn't my best subject!  But I do remember my shapes.

I chose to use a square.  Mainly because I had this piece embossed and die cut
and it needed some finishing touches.

To touch it up, I die cut butterflies from a scrap of embossed tissue paper.

(I'd used the paper on this card and this card.)

I also went around the squares with a Versamarker and heat embossed them 

and the stamped sentiment with gold.

There's lots of golden shine on the butterflies and sentiments!

Here's a look at the inside of the card.

My twofer is a Christmas card.

These fun little Penny Black birds were stamped and watercolored with Zigs,

then fussy cut and perched on the edge of the squares.

Their hats are sort of triangles and circles, but that doesn't count

because the shapes aren't repeated on the butterfly card.

Just thought I'd show off that I recognize some shapes.

There's lots of fun inspiration over there.

Snowy Tree for CAS Christmas

Hello friends! I'm glad you could pop in.

Today's card is a reminder that there's only about a week left to join in at
CAS Watercolour

Our sweet Hideko is hosting this month's challenge....

I had only used this little snow tree die once before and it was time to show it some more love.

I die cut all the layers from Glimmer Paper and a snowdrift too for good measure.

The background is a little piece of salted watercolor background. 

I'm down to the teeny tiny pieces of that.

I'v assembled the layers of the tree using dimensionals so it has lots of dimension.

A tiny die cut star finishes off the scene.

Sunflower Reminder for CAS Watercolour

Hello friends.  I'm so glad you could stop by!

I have another sunflower to share today.

I used another of the sunflower stamps in the Jane's Doodles set
 and this time used watercolor pencils to color.

I got a large set of Faber Castell watercolour pencils for my birthday.
Now I have lots and lots of colors to choose from.

And I need a lot more practice with them!

I have used the smooth side of the paper for stamping and coloring the images
and fussy cut them when they were dry.

The piece behind the flower has a very light wash on the textured side
of the watercolor paper.

I mounted the framed design piece on foam for added dimension.

Marcia has chosen sunflowers for our theme at CAS Watercolour this month.

The Design team and out Guest Designer Izzy have a lot of beautiful
sunflowers cards to inspire you.

The vine background was done by sprinkling Brusho crystals over

the stencil and spritzing with water.  Then I pressed the inked up stencil

on a piece of mixed media paper to get this print.

I've die cut this Memory Box bird from a corrugated coffee cup wrapper

and sponged a little whisper white and coral ink on him.

He's all framed up in Linen Texture Embossing. 

My mixed media are Stencil Monoprint, Brushos, Die Cuts, Dry Embossing, 

Corrugated Cardboard and Stamping.

Happy Sunflower and a Visit from a Friend

Hello friends.  It's the start of another week.  I hope you had a good weekend!

I had a very special weekend.  More about that later.

First, a card....

I seldom do a one layer card anymore but 

The Flower Challenge this month is

My friends at Unity Stamps had a special stamp offered to their 

customers and subscribers.  I jumped on it and love this stamp!

I put it in my MISTI and stamped onto a card cut from 

Strathmore 140 lb. cold press watercolor paper.

I inked the stamp with a  yellow Zig Clean Color Real Brush Marker

and then tapped a damp water brush to the stamped image.

Stamping again added back the lines of the petals.

I did the stems the same way with an Olive Green Zig.

I pulled some of the color around for a light wash around the flower,

then stamped the sentiment.

The first time I did that, I smeared the sentiment.

Ughh!!!

I hate when I do that!

I was able to salvage some of the design and you'll see that in a later post.

Our CAS Watercolour Challenge this month is Sunflowers,

so I'll add this over there too.

As for the special weekend, my friend Mary H. from Carolina Cards by Mary H.

came for a visit with her DH.

She joined in with my stamping class and we had a wonderful time visiting 

except our time was too short.

I hope she and her DH will come back soon! My DH does too.

Merry Christmas Tree

Hi there.  I hope you're having a good weekend.

I was pulling all my Christmas tree stamps off the shelf to decide which to use

for the CAS  Christmas August Tree Challenge and I came

across this little and almost forgotten set.

Inside the box was a tree already stamped and cut and waiting for some action.

So, I put it together and mounted it on a die cut piece of

corrugated cardboard.  Then  I used a larger die to emboss the card front.

Some of my hoarded Naturals White made the base and some

baker's twine finished it off.

Oh, I did stamp the sentiment on a snippet and punched it out 

to ground the tree.

It looks like a simple card and I won't tell you how many days

it took me to decide how to mount it!

Oh, and I added some WOS on the tree so it has a nice shimmer.

Sunflower Friend

Hello friends.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

We're doing sunflowers at 

CAS Watercolour

This is a popular die for this challenge!

I die cut the sunflower from Mixed Media paper keeping it all intact and

painted it with Gansai Tambi watercolors.

For the top layer, I cut again and removed all the petal pieces, sponged color

with Distress ink in the center, then spritzed with water and blotted.

After everything dried, I glued the piece with the colored center

atop the yellow petals.

I went into the base of each petal with a watercolor pencil

and pulled the color with a damp water brush to shade the petals.

I mounted it all on a treasured piece of specialty paper that my friend gave me

and added a narrow mat of Crumb Cake cardstock.

I'm also joining in at AAA Cards.
