Turning the Page May 2021

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

Time to turn the page on our calendars to a new month.

I make calendars each year for my desk and my family.

I thought I'd set up a regular post on the last day of each month to share them.

I hope you enjoy my “Turning the Page” posts.

Here's our May page.

By the way, the calendars are clipped together and can be displayed on an easel
or hung on a push pin or magnetic hook.  We all have a different way to display them.

If you would like a word document with the calendar, email me (bonklass(at)gmail(dot)com.
and I will be glad to send it to you so you can design your own.

If your email address is not in your profile, I have no way to send this to you.

Email link is in my profile on the sidebar.

Thanks for the visit and special thanks for your comments.

Enjoy!

Feathered Cardinal for Rudolph Days

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

It's time for Maureen's (Scraps of Life by Scrappymo) Rudolph Days where we're challenged

with more color.  The background is gesso applies through a stencil.

Splendid Poppy Stems

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

It's been a busy month and I didn't think I'd get to some of my favorite challenges,
but I managed a bit of creative time after all.

The Memory Box Challenge this month is to use paint.
I love to watercolor and sometimes use watercolor paint as in the piece I die
cut these new to me pretty poppies from.  The stems are from a piece of dirty pour
done with acrylic paint.

I love the detail on these flowers!

It was pretty quick if you don't count that I had to try 4 (yes 4) times to
get that sentiment to come out.  White embossing on black can be tricky!

Whittle Rainbow Birds

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

These rainbow birds were cut from a piece of watercolor that Jack did.  He painted wide
strips of shimmery color that worked perfectly for the Poppystamps Challenge to use
rainbow colors.

I've embossed three strips with three different embossing folders then die cut
the bottom with this scallop die.  Then I added some stick die cuts for the birds
to perch on.

Since there wasn't any violet paint, I stamped the sentiment with Gorgeous Grape.

Challenges:
Day of the Month Card Club - Find a Rainbow Day
Poppystamps - Sending Rainbows

Stencil, Coloring & Die Cuts

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I've finished my cards from the piece I was coloring in this post.

For this card, I found a piece of alcohol inked background that picked up the violet color
and cut a layered butterfly from it.

The sentiment is gold embossed and mounted with a very narrow edge of gold on
a snippet of the alcohol inked piece.

The second piece made me think of this seahorse.  I did cut him from copper foil
and used a piece of matte copper for the sea grass.

You can see how it shines in the next photo.

I've been trying to color a bit every day but the days seem too short to get photos
and write a blog post too!

Foiling for Christmas

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

Last week I zoomed with friends and we did some simple foiling.

I got two cards made from that session.

First up...

A super simple technique.  Just crumple that thin foil in your hands and
splatter a little "snow". It made a great background for Santa and his sleigh!

A better look at the shine...

I love how it looks like hills in the background!

Another technique.

This time I used a sticky sheet mounted on a piece of cardstock.  I left the backing
on and die cut with this mistletoe die.  Then I peeled off the backing from the leaves and
burnished with green foil. I did the same thing with the berries using a tiny piece of
red foil.

I had a new embossing folder that I used for the background and the sentiment is
heat embossed with gold and mounted on another little piece of red foil adhered
to cardstock with the sticky paper.

More Stronger Together

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

Remember the card that left a frame for later?

Now is later....

I fussy cut a piece from another colored image and added it to the frame.
I also colored and fussy cut one of the flower images from this set.

The leaves were inked with Tombow Markers and the flowers were inked
with Distress Markers.  I used a damp waterbrush to blend the ink.

I tried to dot some fake splatters.  It was a bad idea!

And while I had the stamp out, another card...

And here they are together.  A Twofer.

Thanks for the visit and special thanks for your comments.

Enjoy!

10 Day Coloring Challenge

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

Kathy Racoosin is in Day 4 of her 10 Day Coloring Challenge
and I've just had a chance to participate.

I love to color and find it so relaxing.
I'd color and do nothing else....but life happens!

Finally, I sat down and tried the technique that Kathy used on day 1.

Here's what I did...

I used a Lavinia stencil and lightly blended Tumbled Glass Distress Ink through it.

I veered from Kathy's technique because this stencil covered more area than
her stencil did.  I chose the pencil colors and decided I would cut this piece in half.
One side uses blue and violet.  The other side has blue and green and I added
some color with my Caran d'ache Supracolor pencils.

After blending with water, this is what it looked like.

Hopefully this will end up on two cards.

Stay tuned to see if that happens.

More Paper Piecing for CAS Mix Up

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

My mixed media are Paper Piecing, Stamping and Die Cutting.

There's still time to join in at CAS Mix Up where the lovely Linda is asking for

I've had lots of fun playing with this stamp set.
Thanks again Sandy!

I confess that my first try with this was a total disaster.
I tried to cut each petal individually.
It looked like the flower had gone to seed.
Ugh!

So I started over and went with the whole flower and added the bottom part.

This looks so much better!

Our Design Team has some awesome inspiration for you!

I hope you'll join us with your paper piecing.
The challenge ends on the 24th.

Another card with an idea I saw on Google.
I used the cover to the paper pad.

This is one package of paper I've used and not hoarded.

I kinda wish I had some left.

Coming up Daisies

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I used my NBUS Slim Strips Dies from Pinkfresh Studio to cut strips from a
snippet of Neenah and colored them with various Distress inks and my blending brushes.

After they were lined up, I popped on a couple die cut daisies that I'd sponged some
color on.

Easy and fun and I love having a die to cut these strips with.  Somehow I never
seem to get narrow strips cut evenly!  The set has strip dies in three sizes so
I think I'll get lots of use from them.  They're long enough for slimline cards too.
