More Dry Embossed Gilding

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I have some more gilding and embossing from our

During our Zoom session, Julia pointed out that her pieces felt sticky.
Mine did too. So I had the brilliant idea to put embossing powder over it and heat
emboss.  It got rid of the sticky, but also covered up a lot of the variegation in the
gilding flakes.  It was usable though and made a lovely Christmas card.

Here's a sample of what the piece looked like before gold embossing powder.

This time I used clear embossing powder.  It left the variegation in color and got rid
of the stickiness.

Have you tried this technique yet?

Dry Embossed Gilding Flakes for Group of Seven Cardmakers

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

This month's Zoom with the Group of Seven Cardmakers was messy but
gave fabulous results.

There are instructions and a video link at the GOSC site along with some of the
cards the group has done using this technique.

The first step is to add some sticky sheet to a piece of cardstock and press
gilding flakes into all the sticky and burnish it.  I used a scrubby pad that came with
the Indigo Blu gilding set I bought several  years ago.

After dry embossing it, we swiped with black permanent ink.
The other gals got much better results with the ink.  I'm thinking my inkpads
may need some refreshing.

I cut my piece to get two cards. Here is the second...

You can put two gilded pieces in the embossing folder back to back so you
get an embossed and a debossed side.  I got a picture of both before I put them on cards.

This shows the debossed side better.
Or is it the embossed side?

I hope you'll check out the website and the other Group of Seven Cardmakers cards.
It's always interesting to hear what tips and tricks the others have found
in the process of doing this technique.

If you try this technique we'd love for you to link it at the site so we will be sure to
see what you did and hear how it worked for you.

Under His Wings

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

It's been a busy week but I finally got to the studio to clean it up
after classes and do some new creating. It felt good!

I thought that my friend Marcia's choice for the Color Hues colors would work great for a
feather.  So I hunted for a background that would work and found one done
with turquoise and blue Brushos.

I die cut one feather from the Brusho background and another from Neenah Solar White
and lightly sponged some turquoise ink on top.

I kept it simple with some subtle embossing that doesn't show in the photo and
an inspirational quote.  I seem to be needing a lot of thinking of you type cards lately.

Challenges:
Color Hues - Blue & Turquoise

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Walk by Faith (PTI)
Ink:   Warm Breeze (Versafine Clair), Tempting Turquoise (SU)
Paper:   Neenah Solar White, Brusho Background
Other:  Feather Die (Tattered Lace), Subtle EF

Enjoy!

Daisy Daisy

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I've been playing with a NBUS daisy die.

For the first card, I die cut with a cover plate and kept all the little pieces intact.
Then I die cut the daisy and fern from cold press watercolor paper to
smoosh and watercolor. using Zigs.

You may need your sunglasses for the next one!

This daisy was die cut from Neenah Solar White and the stem from cold press
watercolor paper,  I colored with Zigs and a slightly damp brush on the Neenah.
The embossed yellow background was in the UFO box and seemed perfect
for a background for this daisy. The frame was a leftover too.

Now to tone it down a bit...

This time I cut the flower from Bristol paper and the stem from cold press watercolor paper.
I used the Print Making technique loosely coloring it over a piece of mixed media paper
letting the color run into background.  Actually the yellow is much lighter IRL.

Challenges:
Double D - Mood Board below
The Flower Challenge #78 - Die Cuts or Stencils
Seize the Birthday - no toppings this time

Card Recipe (card 1)
Stamps:
Ink:
Paper:   Watercolor (Arches cold press), Neenah Solar White, Daffodil Delight
Other:  Etched Layered Daisy Stem Die (SSS), Zigs CCRBM, Detail Pincushion Cutting Plate (SSS), Sword Fern Die (SSS), Script Easter Die (Studio Katia)

Card Recipe (card 2)
Stamps:
Ink:
Paper:   Neenah Solar White, Watercolor (Arches cold press), Daffodil Delight
Other:  Square Lattice EF (ret SU), Etched Layered Daisy Stem die (SSS), Zigs CCRBM, Script Easter Die (SK), Stitched Rectangle Die (SSS),

Card Recipe (card 3)
Stamps:  Many Everyday Messages (HA)
Ink:   VersaMark
Paper:   Bristol ( Strathmore), Mixed Media (Strathmore) Watercolor (Arches CP), Neenah Desert Storm, Gold Foil
Other:  Etched Layered Daisy Stem Die (SSS), Zig CCRBM, Sword Fern Die (SSS), Happy Die (SSS), Gold EP, Subtle EF (ret SU)

Enjoy!

Passionate Purple

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

A couple few years ago Darnell posted this card (scroll down) that she did in
one of our Zoom sessions.  I was enamored with that stamp and ordered it.
And it sat, and sat, and sat in that NBUS box.

Finally it has seen ink!

I inked the flowers with mini inkpads and markers, lightly spritzed and stamped.
By using the MISTI, I could stamp again to get more definition.

The wash was done wet on wet with Tumbled Glass re-inker.

I think I'll try it in some other colors and maybe use it on a calendar page next year.

Challengs:
NBUS #48 - Never Before Used Schtuff
Penny Black Saturday - ATG - Optional Easter
Tic Tac Toe #200 - See board below - I used the center vertical row (Pastel Colors, Flowers, Spring Theme)
Triple B - Birds Butterflies & Blooms

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Passionate (PB), Easter Blessings (Paper Smooches)
Ink:   Victorian Velvet, Wilted Violet, Peeled Paint (DI & markers), Gorgeous Grape
Paper:   Mixed Media (Strathnore), Fresh Freesia (SU)
Other:  Tumbled Glass re-inker, White Gelli Roll pen, Caran d'ache Supracolor pencils (Aubergine, Olive Brown), Subtle EF (ret SU)

Enjoy!

More Magnolia Ballerinas

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I need to clear something up.
I have not decided not to buy anything until I use all my NBUS.
I gave up buying any craft items for Lent.
It's a good time to try and use some of that mountain of NBUS.

You can be assured that I will be ordering again in April.

Meanwhile, I'm trying to well love this set from Altenew.

This time I have used three of the four elements in this set.  I die cut the flowers from
110 lb. Neenah Solar White, fit them in the matching embossing folder to add texture,
then used the three stencils to add color.

I'm still trying to learn how to do these layering stencils and have them
come out somewhat as planned.  This was NOT my first try but the best so far!

For the background, I smooshed some of the same color inks I used on my craft mat,
spritzed and smooshed some bristol paper into the wet ink.  It was more color than I wanted
so I spritzed it and blotted it with a paper towel. Next time I'll use mixed media paper
as the bristol did not hold up well.

Then I die cut one of the labels from this NBUS die set and added the flower
on it so they wouldn't get lost in the background.

This is an A7 card.  Bigger than my usual. It's a large image!

I still need to use the stamp.  Hopefully soon.

Challenges:
The Flower Challenge #78 - Use Die Cuts or Stencils (used both)

Card Recipe
Stamps:  All Occasions (Jane's Doodles)
Ink:   Tattered Rose, Picked Raspberry, Mustard Seed, Wild Honey, Brushed Corduroy, Encore Gold
Paper:   Neenah Solar White, Bristol (Strathmore), Gold Foil, Vellum
Other:  Magnolia Ballerina Die, EF & Stencil, Nesting Slimline Labels (Alt), Yana's Scripted Sentiments (SPL)

Enjoy!

More Dragonflies

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

When I was playing with dragonflies for this card I had some snippets of
designer paper on the table and was able to get three sets of wings from it and
used some snippets of the gold foil for the bodies.

The embossing folder was out too and they all went together as easy as 1 2 3!

I just had to share it with you.

I had a piece of Neenah Solar White embossed with the Subtle Embossing Folder and
double embossed it by putting it in the Leafy 3D Embossing folder and embossing again.
I wish the photo showed the extra texture in that background.

Snippets #449 - Use your snippets

Card Recipe

Golden Dragonfly

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

So many challenges this month asking for green.

I've been thinking spring so I pulled out a pastel mint green and used a
NBUS 3d embossing folder to get the background.  Sponging with white ink
makes the leaves stand out even more.

I matted it with some gold foil and die cut this sweet dragonfly.
I love all the detail on his wings and body.

Challenges:
Color Hues #59 - Green and Gold
Double D - Everything's Coming Up Green
NBUS #48 - Never Before Used Schtuff (embossing folder)

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Uplifting Phrases (Rubbernecker)

Wildflowers with Butterflies

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

A just for fun card playing with my Wplus9 sets.

I started out inking the Scripted Background stamp, spritzing and stamping on the
background.  I used the same technique with the flowers and leaves.

These butterflies were stamped with Versafine Onyx black onto vellum and
heat embossed with clear powder.  I colored on the backside with Copic Markers.

These stamps work beautifully with this dreamy vintage style.

I think I'll go have some more fun with this set...

And there's a new challenge around by the D&D gals.
It's called Triple B and they want to see Birds, Blooms or Butterflies.
Another fun challenge from these gals!

Challenges:
NBUS #48 - Never Before Used Schtuff
Triple B March Challenge - ATG with Birds, Blooms and/or Butterfly

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Scripted Backgrounds, Wild Flowers, Flora & Fauna 3 (all W9)
Ink:   Antiique Linen, Brushed Corduroy, Wilted Violet, Bundled Sage (DM), Versafine Onyx Black
Paper:   Neenah Solar White, Vellum
Other:  Clear EP, Copic Markers (B26, B29)

Enjoy!
