Monochrome for Group of Seven Cardmakers

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

This month the Group of Seven is making monochrome cards.

I really enjoy making monochrome cards so I made a few.

First up in shades of pink...

I saw this video and got right to work.  I chose three shades of pink cardstock
and used one for the background and all three to die cut.  The butterfly is a sticker
from Spellbinders.  It's so convenient and I love the layered details.

Then I went with a Christmas card with the same layout.

I strategically stamped with a background stamp on the smallest die cut label and
heat embossed it before stacking the layers and adding a layered die cut snowflake.

I still had the key embossing folder and die set on the table so I used shades of gray
to make a masculine birthday card.

It's very similar to this card.  I hope you don't mind.

You'll probably be seeing more monochrome cards here in the next month and
my fellow GO girls have some fantastic cards to share with you too.  There's a linky
at the GO7 site if you'd like to join us.

Pink Poppies

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I had been eyeing this stamp for a long time and it finally found it's way
into my collection.  I am so glad I finally got it because it was a joy to color.

I placed the stamp in my MISTI and inked with Distress markers to get a
no-line watercolor look.

The first thing I did was to use a micron pen to go over the center of the
largest poppy.  Then I used the markers to add more color to the bases of the
petals and areas that needed some shading.  It took a lot of water to pull the color,
but the hot press watercolor paper held up well.

After it was dry, I used watercolor pencils to add more detail. then
went over all of it with a wet brush to pull color out from the edges for
a loose watercolor look.

One of the flowers didn't look so good so I found a butterfly in my stash to
hide some of it.  I do love an opportunity for a butterfly!

This is a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY wish to a very sweet and special friend.
You know who you are.  Happiest Birthday!

Summer's Treasures

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

The Just Us Girls Challenge had me stumped.  I was in the process of looking for my
candle dies that I thought might work, when I came by this set from The Greetery and I
had an Aha moment.

I die cut all these little images from Neenah Solar White and colored them
with blender brushes and Simon Says inks.

After getting all the parts together, I had fun laying them out in the "curio cabinet".

I had an oops and mixed up the wings so I cut some more to get the right color
on the right wings and ended up with another set.

And after cutting the frame, I had all those little cut outs laying there.

So I made another card.

I sponged the pieces with what was left on the blue blending brush, then
embossed them and arranged them on a piece of black cardstock.

Pink Daisies

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

Monday sure rolled around again quickly!

These daisies were in my NBUS box and I thought they would work well with the
Color Hues colors of Sage and Pink.

As it would happen, they worked out well to send to a friend who is experiencing
some health difficulties.  I hope it cheers her and reminds her of our hope in the Lord.

I inked the stamp with Distress inks and markers and used a damp waterbrush
to blend the ink.  I did a little touch up with watercolor pencils after stamping
and added some splatters.

To get the strip of color, I placed some Sweet Poppy stencil tape on the card and
lightly blended some ink between the tape.  I probably should have done this step first
but it seemed to work out fine.

Challenges:
Color Hues #89 - Sage and Pink
Darnell's I.D.E.A.S. - Anything Goes Week
NBUS #63 - Never Before Used Schtuff

I am so glad Blogger has straightened out.  It was so frustrating last week!

Card Recipe

Ink:   Kitsch Flamingo, Bundled Sage (DI), Forest Moss, Gathered Twigs, Picked Raspberry (DM)
Paper:   Mixed Media (Strathmore), Milk Chocolate (MFT)

Hopping By

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

After trying many coloring mediums to find the perfect one for a class, I had
a lot of frog samples left over.  This is one that I stamped on a scrap oval die cut.

I love plaid paper.  It's fun and seems to pair with this jaunty frog perfectly!

Teen cards are hard for me and I'm trying to get some together for the grandkids to
take with them to birthday parties.  This will go in that stash.

Yellow Roses

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

On this card, I've used the stamp set that my friend lent to me.

I'm going to be singing The Yellow Rose of Texas all day now.

I stamped the flowers on Mixed Media paper with Warm Glow ink and colored
with Zigs and my trusty waterbrush.

For the background, I used a new to me embossing folder that a sweet friend
recently sent to me.  Thank you, my friend.

The narrow panel was embossed with the Subtle embossing folder.  It's a shame
that it's retired now!  I've added a slightly larger piece of linen patterned paper to
peek out from each side.

The yellow "splatters" are stamped and the black done with a Micron pen.

Darnell's I.D.E.A.S. inspiration this week is Embossing Folders for week three of the month.

Challenges:
The Flower Challenge #92 - Use the sketch below

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Garden Rose (Alt), Snippets (PB), Splatters (?)

Other:  Garden Rose Die (Alt), Checkered Scallops EF (Spl), Zigs (yellow, mustard, May Green, Deep Green)

Take a Page

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

As a former librarian, it's hard for me to tear a page out of a book.
But I bought this little book from a thrift shop for just such an occasion.

The gals from Double D have weddings in mind and ask for three from the old poem, Something old, Something new, Something borrowed, Something blue.

I had just borrowed the Rose Garden Craft Your Life set from a friend and used the
embossing folder for my background.  Something old is the page from a book,
and I die cut a butterfly from a piece of blue toned alcohol inked Yupo.

I had the idea for using the book page from the Try it on Tuesday challenge.

Challenges:
Double D - Pick Three from Old, New, Borrowed, Blue (I chose Old, Borrowed and Blue)
Triple B - ATG Birds, Butterflies and Blooms (Butterfly)
Try it on Tuesday - Book Pages

Card Recipe
Stamps:
Ink:
Paper:   Naturals Ivory, Neenah Solar White, Yupo
Other:  Garden Rose Craft Your Life EF (Alt), Dreamy Butterfly (MB), Alcohol Ink (Laguna, Glacier), Nesting Slim Labels (Alt), Gift Book

Mountains

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

Our swap theme last month for Craft Group was mountains.
It left me scratching my head!

Then I remembered this scene building set that's been sitting on the shelf for a
few years.  It's not available from Stampin' Up anymore.  That's how long it's been
sitting there.  Although I think they retire their things way too quickly!

But I digress.

I ended up keeping this one for a Father's Day card.

I've inked, spritzed and stamped the mountains with Crumb Cake ink, then
over-stamped with Pear Pizzaz.  For the mountain in the middle, I wiped ink off
the ends with my finger.

I used more stamps for the grass, stamping several times and
adding lots of water to let the ink run.

To finish, I die cut a frame an popped it over the top after I embossed the main image.

I had die cut some of the designs for my swaps and had this frame left over.

It was too pretty to throw away.  So I stamped some mountains and trees to go with it.
I used lighter shades of ink or stamped off to get the feeling of distance and popped
the frame up with dimensional tape.

It was a perfect place to put this sentiment and ended up being my favorite.

Here's a peek at the cards I took to swap.

More Lemons

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I used the lemon stamp set from this card for a card in my last class.  Since I had a
leftover kit, I decided to use it for the Color Hues Challenge.

I made a few changes in the background color and leaves to fit this challenge
and added an extra lemon to the front.

The leaves were cut from white and colored with some yellow ink with
blue sponged over the top.  It left a blue color but a different shade of blue from the
sentiment and splatters.

I'm loving the die and embossing folder combos...As long as I remember to cut first,
then emboss!

Challenges:
Can You Handle the Pressure - ATG with embossing folder (did not use the option)
Color Hues #88 - Blue and Yellow

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Sweet Citrus (ret SU), Every Day Sayings (HA)
Ink:   Daffodil Delight, Pacific Point
Paper:   Neenah Solar White, Pacific Point

Enjoy!
