Turning the Page October 2018

Tomorrow we turn the page on our calendars to a new month.

I make calendars each year and I've been sporadic about sharing them with you so

I thought I'd set up a regular post on the last day of each month "Turning the Page".

I hope you enjoy these posts.

By the way, the calendars are clipped together and can be displayed on an easel

or hung on a push pin or magnetic hook.  We all have a different way to display them.

September Flower Morning Glory

Hello friends.  I'm so glad you stopped by.

I'm still trying to use all those flower of the month stamps.

The September flower is Morning Glory or Aster
which symbolizes daintiness, love and magic according to Google.

Papertrey ink went with the Morning Glory.

I put the stamp in my MISTI and colored it with Distress Markers
then moved the color with my waterbrush and stamped again
to strengthen the details.

I actually stamped the flowers after I was finished coloring, with
Hickory Smoke.  I felt the blue was strong enough and
the gray worked beautifully to add detail.

I used a previously die cut piece of watercolor paper and
used the the next larger die in the set to emboss a frame.

Some little clear drops finished it off.

From Calendar to Card

Hello friends.

I have been posting the pages from my handmade calendars.

This card comes from last December's page.

I thought it would be good to get the page out of my UFO box.

The design image was stamped and the ornament was

die cut from red Glimmer Paper.

I added a frame that was embossed with a Texture Plate from PTI.

I also added some Nuvo Crystal drops over the stamped berries for added

dimension and texture.

I'll join in at Rudolph Days where as long as it's Christmas, anything goes.

Painted Flower Stems

Hello friends.  Another week has flown by and September is almost over!

The Memory Box Outside the Box Challenge this month is

I have lots of Washi tape, but rarely use it.

There are some really creative ways to use tape at the challenge site

but I can't say that I used it very creatively.

I need to remember those ideas!

But for today, I've just put a piece across the bottom.

I used a NBUS Memory Box die.

I cut it from Mixed Media paper and used Distress Markers

and my waterbrush to color my garden.

Decorated Tape is like Decorative Paper in my studio.
I love looking at it but hate cutting into it.

Thanks to Memory Box for giving me an excuse to use some tape.

Dancing Daisies Spotlight

Hello and welcome!

I have some dancing daisies to share today.

After placing this Penny Black stamp in my MISTI, I inked it with Distress Markers

using one color at a time, stamping and moving color with a water brush. 

If I lose the details, I can stamp again, usually without re-inking.

When I had all the colors like I wanted, I pulled color from the flowers

(I left everything in the MISTI in case I needed to stamp again.)

I wanted a little blue in the wash so I swiped some Faded Jeans ink

on my palette and using a wet on wet technique, added the blue.

To finish off, I splattered (quite timidly) some of the Faded Jeans over the piece.

I wanted to use the sketch from the Penny Black Saturday Challenge

 

so my daisies ended up like a spotlight.  Again, I've interpreted the sketch pretty loosely.

Rustic Wreaths for CAS Christmas

Hi there.  Welcome to my blog.

I have two cards today done with this beautiful Penny Black wreath stamp.

They're a reminder that there's still time to play at CAS Mix Up.

Simply stamped with brown ink and adorned with Nuvo Crystal Drops

Here's the square version.

The background piece has been embossed with the 

Pinewood Plans Embossing Folder.

The bow has been die cut from Cherry Cobbler cardstock, smacked

with WOW Embossing Pad and clear embossed.

The bow has a little wood sequin from Serendipity in the center.

This is pretty loosely following the sketch at

Tree with Watercolor

Hello friends.  I'm glad you could stop by.

For this card I stamped the tree with Archival Ink and watercolored the background.

I put clean water around the tree and picked up ink smooshed on my palette

with a water brush.  I had some Lindy's on the palette to so I

added some of that in.

I found a tiny leaf stamp that isn't much more than dots, and inked

it with green adding it around the bottom to look like smaller

trees, bushes or whatever.

Using inking stamp with markers, stamping, watercoloring, and die cutting.

Here's another card that I've inked with markers.

I've used my MISTI so I could ink one color, move the ink with a damp

water brush and stamp again if needed.

It's easy to stamp with different colors using this method and 

when the water makes you lose the lines, stamping again brings them back.

There's still time to ink up a stamp with markers and two other kinds

of mixed media and join in at CAS Mix Up.

Leaf Frame for Twofer

Hello my friends.  Welcome.

First and foremost, I want to thank you all for your positive thoughts
and prayers through the last week as Florence wreaked havoc on our state.

We are fine and had no damage.

Many others are not as blessed.

Please keep them in your prayers and help where you can.

Now, it's Twofer Time!

A very special friend sent me this leaf frame die recently.  

Wasn't that perfect timing?

My first thought was to die cut it from watercolor paper and color it in fall colors.

Another dear friend had brought this pumpkin die when she came to play.

I had die cut it from watercolor paper too.

I used re-inkers and a water brush to color everything.

For my Twofer....

It occurred to me that this frame would make a good Christmas card too.

So I found a piece of alcohol inked photo paper in my stash

and cut the frame from that.

The sentiment is an old Stampin Up stamp.  I stamped it in 

Encore Gold and heat embossed it with gold embossing powder.

I also dipped the sentiment piece in the gold ink and 

heat embossed the edges.

And I remembered why I bought those Autumn Red Nuvo Chrystal Drops.

They make perfect berries.

I also found out that if you put a stack of books over the finished card,

even though the "berries" are dry, they get squished!

A little more Nuvo on top of the squished berries plumped them right up again.

So I've used this die for a Thanksgiving card and a Christmas card.

Watercolor Wreath for CAS Christmas

Hello friends.  Welcome!

I'm here today to remind you that there is a little over a week
to join in at CAS Christmas.

When my friend Nance (Soul Stampin') came a week or so ago, she brought

her Catherine Pooler wreath die for me to use.

I die cut some from watercolor paper and had such fun coloring it

with Zigs and a water brush.

I had three cut and decided to stack them all together for added dimension.

The joy is from the same die set.  I wanted it red so I smacked it with VersaMark

and used some red embossing powder I'd bought for doing 

the Encrusted Jewel technique.

I thought it turned out quite festive and is still flat enough to mail

without extra postage.

Watercolor Birches

Hello there.

We have rain, rain and more rain!

Today I'm sharing a bright card for CAS Watercolour.

This month our challenge is

I stamped the birch trees from the Nature's Silhouettes set with
Weathered Wood Distress ink on Tim Holtz watercolor paper.

I chose this watercolor paper because it is a brighter white.

I wet the paper around the trees with clear water and added some
Scattered Straw Distress Ink that I'd swiped on my palette
and picked up with the waterbrush.

It wasn't dark enough so I added some Fossilized Amber
ink using the same technique.

I had some Lindy's Magicals on my palette from a previous project
so I picked that up and added it at the top.

When it was dry, I inked a foliage stamp from the same set
with Peeled Paint ink, stamped off on scrap then stamped.

I masked the trees with sticky notes and stamped some
foliage between the trees.

The frame was already die cut and waiting for a home.
The "painting" was a perfect fit.

The whole design is on a piece of foam for dimension.

Sunflowers for CAS Mix Up

Hello.  First of all, thank you all for your concern and prayers for
our safety during Hurricane (and now Tropical Storm) Florence.

We are far enough inland the we were not hit as hard as the beaches.

We've had rain and wind but our power has stayed on and so far
no trees have fallen around us.

We are hunkered down and thankful for our safety and comfort and
sending up prayers for those in the flooded areas.

This month I'm the host and I chose

You may have noticed that one of my favorite techniques is to

ink my stamps with markers.

I like to add a little water to the design, but you don't have to.

But we do want you to use your markers to ink up your stamps.

The flowers were inked with Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers.

You may (or may not) remember this card that I showed last month.

It was a remake of a card that I'd ruined with a smeared sentiment.

I was able to die cut the flowers and use the design on another card.

Lucky me!

More Inking with Markers

Hello friends. I'm so glad you stopped by.

Here's a very simple card using the Inking with Markers technique

that we're doing at CAS Mix Up this month.

I used Distress Markers, 2 shades of blue and one of green, to ink this stamp.

The stamp has two flower heads so I stamped it more than once.

You can use a stamp positioner to do this or ink all the colors and

huff on the stamp.  I used the MISTI and moved my card to

stamp the extra flowers.

I inked with the lighter blue first then "thumped" a darker blue on the stamp

before stamping on the cardstock.

I die cut the design piece and used the largest die in the set to emboss

the front of the card.

A little stamped, colored, heat embossed and punched butterfly

finishes off the card.

My mixed media are inking stamp with markers, stamping, thumping, die cutting,

dry embossing with die, heat embossing and punching.

You may have heard that we have a massive hurricane headed for NC.

Until last night it looked like it was headed for Raleigh but this morning

it looks like it will hit further south of us.

Good news for us!

We are prepared and hoping that we won't be without power for days.

If you pray, pray for those in the direct path.

There will be a lot of wind damage and flooding.

Fall Tree

Hi there.  I hope you've had a great weekend!

I placed this oldie but goody tree from Stampin' Up! in my MISTI

and colored it up with Markers before stamping.

The leaves are so small that I barely touched them with a damp waterbrush.

Then I did a light wash for the background.

I'm so ready for Fall!

I see signs of color in the trees but not too much.

And it's still hot and humid.

Good weather to stay inside and play!
