It's time for another challenge at CAS Watercolour
When I first started card making, I saw an article about using salt on watercolor
and I was fascinated. But I never got around to trying it.
So I chose it for this month's challenge at
The Design Team and Guest Designer, Ros have had a wonderful time
playing with salt this past month so we would have lots to inspire you.
To do this card I first did a wash of Gansai Tambi Watercolor on a piece of watercolor paper.
With the paper still quite wet I sprinkled a mixture of Sea Salt and some
Himalayan Fine Pink salt that DH thought looked interesting and had stashed.
Here's what the piece looked like after it had dried and I brushed the salt off.
I thought the piece looked like snow.
Here's another card I made with this background.
My dear friend and teammate, Susan, sent me this die cut a while back.
It's a perfect fit!
Oh, and I have a few more little pieces left.
You'll have to wait to see what I do with them.
We have lots of videos to help inspire you at the challenge site.
I hope you'll get out some water, color and salt and have a play with us.
It really is a lot of fun!
My good friend Karen is hosting the TLC Challenge at Splitcoast Stampers
this week and the challenge is SALT. So I can take these over there to share.
And the Just Us Girls challenge #404 is
The Snowman Joy die is new.
It was a gift from my win from the Foiled Fox and Heather.
I hope you'll try this fun technique and share your creations with us at
Enjoy!

I love your salt and watercolour background using the Himalayan pink salt. Of all my backgrounds I made playing around with this technique my favorites were using the Himalayan salt along with sea salt. TFS your original uncut piece. It looks just like snow.

LOVE your snowy, winter backgrounds Bonnie. Great job with the salt technique. I'm thinking I need to break down and buy those Gambi Tansai watercolours! :) I LOVE that sweet, joyful snowman die - adorable! The snowflake die-cut looks perfect over that background too. Two wonderful designs, my friend! xx
Ice crystals! I love how the salt made your background look like ice crystals. While I don't miss the cold I miss seeing ice crystals and delicate snowflakes. Gotta love that desert sun. I'll bet even Mr. snowman would agree.
Two beautiful cards, Bonnie! Love the frosty patterns you got on the watercolour from the salt - perfect for your winter / Christmas cards! And in blue and white too - my favourite colour combination!
:-)) Cool! I love this winter scene and the way you created all the snowdrifts. This is a real revelation. I also love this beautiful "salted" background for all white items!!

Thank you so much for choosing a fun technique and providing us the tutorial video links for this month's challenge, Bonnie! I started experimenting watercolour with salt few days ago, and enjoy learning a little by little. It's like a science experiment in school, and I love it!
