Acetate and Glitter for Group of Seven Cardmakers

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

The Group of Seven Cardmakers have been using acetate and glitter this month.

Since Christmas is less than two months away (gasp), I chose to do
some Christmas cards.

I used the second video technique for both of my cards.

I stamped the design on heat resistant acetate and heat embossed it with white
embossing powder, making sure to keep the heat tool moving while I embossed.

Turning it over to the non-embossed side, I spread liquid glue over a couple of the
petals and used a cotton swab to smoosh the ink around.  Then I sprinkled a heavy
layer of glitter over the top, shook it off and returned the loose glitter to the container.
I repeated the process with the rest of the petals and leaves.

What I like about this technique is that the glitter side in contained between the
acetate and card front so there is less glitter spread all over the studio and me.
I'm still sparkling!

I was brave and tried another....

This card was done with the same technique but the glitter has some silver sparkles
mixed in.  My friend Nance had given me several jars of these sparkles.  The glitter
is blue and the silver took on all kinds of colors in the photo.

Some backgrounds from my UFO box worked perfectly for showcasing the designs
and I was happy to get some more out of that box.

Corralling the glitter and keeping it from spreading all over the house was a challenge.
Getting photos of the sparkle of the glitter and the shine of the acetate was an
even bigger challenge.

Head over to the Group of Seven Cardmakers website and see what the
other six ladies have done.  There are links and directions for this technique over
there as well as a linky if you decide to try it along with us.

I hope to see your sparkle!

Wizard and Pumpkins

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I have another Halloween card today.

I found this wizard in my Halloween UFO box.  He was all colored up and cut out.
There was even a sticky note telling me the colors I'd used to color him.

A NBUS die set of seasonal images has some cute pumpkin shapes that I cut
from Saffron cardstock and colored with a sponge dauber and ink.

Then to decide how to display them?

A little creative cutting and ink blending had a fence for this scene and I found a
tree die for the background.  Decorative paper holds it all together.

I even found a few glittery silver stars tucked away for his hat.

Challenges:
Double D - Pumpkins
Those Pretty Papers- Use Patterned Papers

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Gnome for the Holidays Halloween (Photo Play)
Ink:   Memento Tuxedo Black, Pumpkin Pie, Tangerine Tango, Chocolate Chip, Black Soot
Paper:   Neenah Solar White, So Saffron, Taupe, Early Espresso,
Other:  Copics (V09, BV08, E21, E13, R20, R83, C10, C00, C0, C2), Seasonal Decor Dies (SB), Picket Fence Die (PS), Tree Die (?), Confetti Stars Punch (SU)

Nature's Beauty

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

Fall is in the air and the leaves are turning to their autumn colors.

Around here the scenery turns mostly gold. Although I love the bright oranges
and reds of the maples, walking through the golden woods is beautiful too.

Color Hues is asking us to use Olive and Mustard.

I had recently got a new divider set from The Greetery and the Autumn Findings dies.
Some die cutting and sponging resulted in this card.

Everything was cut from Neenah Solar White cardstock and colored with
sponge daubers and shades of Olive and Mustard with avbit of brown added in.

Challenges:
Color Hues #97 - Olive and Mustard
NBUS #67 - Never Before Used Schtuff
Inkspirational #327 - Seasonal (Fall)

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Curio Labels (Grtry)
Ink:   Pear Pizzazz, Old Olive, Crushed Curry, More Mustard, Baked Brown Sugar
Paper:   Naturals Ivory (ret SU), Neenah Solar White

Pretty in Pink

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

When Michele came to visit, she brought her Sing Joy stamp set for me to use.
I stamped several and then decided that I really needed to have this set so
I could stamp on cardstock to color with Copics.  (I thought it was a good reason!)
An even better reason when I discovered that there is a die set to go with it.

I posted a card last week for the Jingle Belles Pink Christmas for the Cure challenge.
I used pink poinsettias but it wasn't all pink.  So I challenged myself to only use
pink and neutrals.

The background was done with Distress Ink on acetate, spritzed and smooshed on a
piece of mixed media paper.  Then I stamped and heat embossed some little snowflakes
on the background and added some torn snowbanks for this darling to stand on.
The whole design was added to a dry embossed snowflake background.

Little Pink Elfette was stamped on mixed media paper and colored with inks and
my waterbrush.  The stripes on her scarf and hat brim were done with a marker.
When she was all watercolored and dry, I used the die to cut her out so she could
do her thing on the snowbank.

Don't you love how she's singing her heart out? What Christmas carol do you
suppose she is singing?

Challenges:
Jingle Belles - Pink Christmas for the cure
Penny Black Saturday - ATG using Penny Black with option of Cute or Spooky
Darnell's I.D.E.A.S. - Third Monday Embossing Wet or Dry
NBUS #67 - Never Before Used Schtuff (Die)

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Sing Joy, Festive Snippets (PB), Snowflakes (various)
Ink:   Memento Tuxedo Black, Whisper White, Pretty in Pink, Strawberry Slush, Tattered Rose, Brushed Corduroy
Paper:   Neenah Solar White, Mixed Media (Strathmore), Pretty in Pink
Other:  Sing Joy Cut Out (PB), Snowflake EF (MS), White EP

Enjoy!

Cute for Penny Black Saturday

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I'm excited to be back guest designing at Penny Black Saturday Challenge.

This time I went with the cute option.

This little guy had been stamped and colored and was patiently waiting for his
turn to land on a card.  He looks like he is very happy to be carrying that Christmas
tree  doesn't he?  No die so I had to fussy cut him and fortunately didn't remove
his tail in the process.

His background was brushed on with Distress Oxide inks and the frame was die
cut three times to give it extra dimension.

The Penny Black Saturday Challenge is asking for Cute or Spooky cards
using Penny Black products.  I hope to see your card in the gallery.

Challenges:
Penny Black Saturday - ATG using Penny Black products with the option of Cute or Spooky
Christmas Kickstart #91 - Colorful Christmas

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Holly Jolly Critters, Festive Snippets (both PB)
Ink:   Memento Tuxedo Black, Speckled Egg, Faded Jeans (DOX), Real Red (SU)
Paper:   Neenah Solar White
Other:  Copic Markers, Classy Frames die (PB), Chunky White Frantage EP (SP), Kars Snow EF (ret Cuttlebug)

Enjoy!

Peachy Poinsettias

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

It's been a crazy busy week with doctor appointments and cataract surgery
but I managed to get this done and just realized that one of the challenges that
inspired this card is about to close.

I used mixed media paper to stencil on so I could use a damp brush on the ink
for a watercolor look.

When the flowers were dry, I splattered with a bit of white gouache.

The sentiment pieces were colored with a light hand and the ink left on the brush.

Challenges:
ABC Christmas - Use Unusal Christmas Colors
Flower Challenge #96 - Add a Stencil
Just Us Girls #749 - See Mood Board (inspired by gum drops bottom center)
Peace on Earth #73 - See Mood Board (inspired by colors)

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Gift Tag Greetings-Winter (Studio Katia)
Ink:   Peach Parfait, Crisp Cantaloupe, Certainly Celery (SU), Vintage Sepia (VF)
Paper:   Mixed Media, Neenah Natural, Pale Papaya
Other:  Poinsettia Duo Layering Stencil (TH), Burlap EF (HB), Classy Frame (PB), White Gouache

Enjoy!

Birches through the Seasons

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

For these cards I've used an older die that I believe has been retired,
but I think similar dies are still available.

First up is a fall card for the Inkspirational Challenge.

It's die cut from linen paper and placed atop a background from my stash.

I used colored pencils to add detail to the birches and the leaves were colored with
markers and die cut from another piece of background.

While it was out I did another with more of a summer vibe...

This piece was embossed with an old woodgrain embossing folder before
die cutting.  It has a lighter blue background, again from my stash.  The leaves
 were colored with markers.

Lastly, a Christmas card....

This was done the same as the fall card but using a snowy background and
I added some cardinals to pop up the color a bit.  I love black, white and red together.

Challenges:
Inkspirational #326 - Mood Board
Darnell's I.D.E.A.S. - Week 2 Dies
Krafty Chicks #737- ATG Christmas

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Various sentiments
Ink:   Tombow Markers
Paper:   Neenah Solar White, Neenah Desert Storm, Black
Other:  Birch Tree Window die (ret SSS), Leaves (IO), Cheery Cardinals (PS), Woodgrain EF (ret SU)

Enjoy!
