In the Pink

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I'm trying to use up some of the backgrounds I've done through the years.

This background was from our retreat in 2019.

It's well past time to put it on a card, don'tcha think?

The base was swiped with a baby wipe that was saturated with ink.

I used a stencil and embossing paste through the stencil for the flowers.

When I pulled it out for this card, I stamped randomly with a script stamp

with white ink.

After I cut it down, all it needed was a little butterfly on top.

Baby Wipe and Stencil

Hi there.  I hope the week is starting off well for you.

Today I'm playing with the CAS Stencil Challenge that's hosted by Julia.

I've smooshed a piece of photo paper into some spritzed Distress Oxide ink.
I only used one color this time to leave a fairly neutral background.

I laid the stencil over the dried smooshed piece and
sponged more Distress Oxide ink through it.

When it was completely dry, I wiped with a baby wipe and watched
the magic happen.  I never get tired of this technique!

All that was left was to trim it up and put it behind an
embossed frame.

The sentiment is stamped in the same color as the background.

Playing with Gesso

 Hello friends.

I'm finally trying to get some posts done with some of the
fun techniques we did at the Retreat in beautiful British Columbia.

This was one of my favorite techniques.  Or should I say, one of the techniques

when I ended up with something I really liked!

Christine showed us how to use Gesso in different ways.

For this card, we put gesso on a stamp and pressed it on some heavy white cardstock.

It acts as resist so when we sponged color over it (after it had dried),

the stamped image stayed white.

I added some color on top with the awesome brushes that Trina gifted us and 

Distress Oxide inks. Then I pounced a baby wipe on top of that to give

it a little texture.  Somehow the sponging and baby wipe went awry

in the top left corner.  I was happy that this arched tag die would 

cover that  oops up!

These sponged colors are a bit more vivid in the photo than IRL.

My camera is not being my friend today!

I went over some of the flowers by adding dots with a Pentex white marker 

that Loll had gifted me.  It's wonderful for touching up!

After I got home and got this all together, I randomly added 

some clear Dazzling Details  for a little glitz.

Fun with Ombre

Oh, my it's June already!

It's time for a new challenge at CAS Mix Up.

(I didn't realize until just now that the vellum is kind of  rippled.  It wasn't intentional)

The very talented Mac is our host this month and this is what she chose.

There are definitions of ombre on the challenge site as well as links to video tutorials.

I did this background with a baby wipe.  I saw Jennifer McGuire do this and

wanted to try it while we were all hot on using baby wipes.

I folded a baby wipe several times until it was a good size to fit around the edge of

an acrylic block and attached it with a rubber band.  I added a few drops of

three different colors of Distress re-inkers and swiped it on a piece of cardstock.

With this piece I got fancy and swiped it in different directions.

I stamped with a small set of Lavinia stamps that I got while in Vancouver.

For a little added interest, I dry embossed a couple corners of the design piece.

So my mixed media are Ombre, Baby Wipe, Stamping, Dry Embossing, 

Vellum and Heat Embossing.

Eat, Sleep, Craft, Repeat 2019

Hello crafty peeps!

I'm excited to say that I was able to join in at the
Eat, Sleep, Craft, Repeat 2019 Retreat this year.

My heart was in my throat as I flew by myself across the country,
but it was so worth it to spend a week with these dear people!

Loll's SIL Alex came to take pictures on Sunday.

What a treat to meet him and get pointers on photographing our cards.

He was an excellent teacher and took some awesome pictures that I'll treasure!

We all took turns leading the group in techniques.

I shared the baby wipe on photo paper technique.

I came home with a lot of backgrounds, images to put on cards and images to color.

I've been home a week and still haven't got everything sorted.

It was a tearful goodbye after a memorable week.

We were all hoarse from the talking and laughing!

Tilth Floral Wipe Swipe

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by.

I'm home again after enjoying a week with sweet, funny, talented friends.

I've been playing with those Baby Wipes again.  There's so many things we can do with them!

This time I followed Jennifer McGuire's lead and used Distress Re-inkers

on a baby wipe to make stripes of color.

I folded a baby wipe to fit on the edge of an acrylic block and

fastened it with a rubber band.  I added a few drops of  Spun Sugar re-inker to

one side of the wipe, a few drops of Worn Lipstick and a few drops of

Picked Raspberry.  Then I swiped it across some paper.

I found that Mixed Media paper works best, but I did some swipes on Neenah

and it worked okay.  I got several pulls of color with my wipe and by

spritzing with water, I got lighter colors.

My friend Heather Telford is helping to launch a new challenge at

The Foiled Fox.

I've used the three shades of pink. (I hope it's okay to use three shades of one color.)

Double Wiped with Butterfly

Hello from beautiful Vancouver.

I've used baby wipes two ways on this card.

We're doing this technique at our retreat today. 

What a fun time together.  It was totally worth the trip!

 I swiped a baby wipe full of ink on a piece of mixed media paper for the background,

then stamped the flower using Distress ink and the MISTI.

I Die cut the butterfly from baby wiped DOX inked photo paper and 

raised up on black foam.

Baby Wipe Magic for CAS Mix Up

There are a lot of ways to use baby wipes on cards.

We keep discovering new ones.

I used this technique from Kia's video tutorial.

I LOVE this technique.  It's like magic when you wipe it down.

I did learn that some photo paper doesn't work well,

but this HP worked like a dream!

I smooshed Distress Oxide on my craft sheet, spritzed with water and

dipped the glossy photo paper into the ink.

I used several colors, drying between each color, until I was 

happy with the coverage.

When the paper was colored and dry, I stamped the image, 

using the MISTI so I could stamp more than once if needed.

I let that dry REAL good and wiped it down with a baby wipe

and watched the magic happen.

I've used a die to emboss the edge and put the design image on foam.

My mixed media are Baby Wipe Technique, Stamping and  Dry Embossing with a Die.

I hope you'll try this or another of the baby wipe techniques.

Baby Wipe Background for CAS Mix Up

Hello friends.  I have another baby wipe card today.

There's still time to join in at
CAS Mix Up.

I'm hosting this month and I chose....

I have classes almost every month and we use baby wipes to clean the stamps.

When the wipes get really full of ink, we noticed that the ink was transferring onto our hands

and onto our cards.  Usually the color transferred where we didn't want it!

So I wondered if we could intentionally transfer the ink for backgrounds.

It works quite well!

I just take the wet wipe and scrunch it up so the inky part touches the

 mixed media paper and smoosh it around.

If I need more color, I dip the wipe into an ink pad, get a bit of color

on it and add that to the mix.

It's easy and a great way to make that ink go a bit further and

create a different background.

Baby Wipes for CAS Mix Up

It's time for another challenge at
CAS Mix Up

This month I'm hosting the challenge and I chose....

There are videos at the challenge site and wonderful inspiration from 

our outstanding Design Team and talented Guest Designer, Berry.

I used the technique from this video by Kia for my technique.

I've got to tell you, this technique is like MAGIC!

Here's what the piece of Staples glossy photo paper looked like after smooshing

DOX  (Distress Oxide) ink on it.  (I dried between colors.)

Then I took a clean baby wipe and wiped it off.

This is when the magic happens.

The wipe removes all the chalky film from the top.

My HP Advanced and Staples Photo Plus Gloss worked great.

I did find this technique didn't work on Kodak photo paper or HP Everday Photo Semigloss.

I also found that rubber stamps work better than clear stamps

to stamp a design on top.

There are lots of other ways to use baby wipes.

You can use one of our video tutorials or maybe you can

come up with a new technique of your own.

Less is More - Blue and Green

In our Papercrafting class yesterday, we did the Baby Wipe Technique.  While designing the cards for the class I did this one for the Less is More challenge.

The challenge this week is Colour.... Blue and Green

The colors I used for this were Bashful Blue, Not Quite Navy and Night of Navy.  The stem was inked in Always Artichoke and the sentiment is stamed in Midnight Muse.

I'm not sure if all the others have as much ink on their fingers as I do, but we really had fun making a mess of ourselves.  LOL, I've washed dishes several time since and still wear the ink.
