Daisy Daisy

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

It was a busy weekend but I found time to put something together

Here's Judy's sketch

I had a couple of die cut daisies on my table and used watercolor pencils to
add the color to the centers and bit of gray on the petals.

The butterfly was in the butterfly box.  I think it was cut from some dirty pour
on canvas paper.  The circle was cut from cardstock and topped with a vellum circle.

I used a smaller panel.  I hope that's allowed.
I'll take it over to Freshly Made Sketches and see if they approve.

I'll also link up with Darnell's I.D.E.A.S. where week 2 is Die Cuts.

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Snippets (PB)
Ink:   Versafine Onyx Black
Paper:   Neenah Solar White, Vellum
Other:  Wildflower Stems #1 (TH), Envelope Accessories Die (HA), Circle Dies, Subtle EF (ret SU), Arteza Watercolor Pencils.

Enjoy!

Garden Trio Peach and Aqua

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I love the photo to inspire us at The Flower Challenge this month.  The colors are so
dreamy and the feeling of gentle movement very soothing.

This is my take...you can see the picture below my card.

I've been wanting to play with this new set from Penny Black and this challenge
gave me the perfect opportunity.  It's my new favorite stamp/die set so
you'll be seeing more of it in the near future.

I stamped the image in Memento Toffee Crunch and colored with
Distress Reinkers uses as watercolors.  The matching die makes it easy to
cut it out and gets those little in between spots really well. A black
Micron pen highlighted the details in the flower center.

I loved the lattice die cut that Jill Foster used for a card using this flower so
it found it's way into my cart too.  I think I'll be using this die quite a bit!

The alcohol inked piece had the right color and movement as in the inspiration photo
and I love how it plays so beautifully with the peach shades.

Challenges:
The Flower Challenge #104 - Be inspired by the colours in the photo
NBUS #76 - Never Before Used Schtuff - Stamp Set & Both Dies
Penny Black Saturday - ATG using Penny Black (Did not use the option of on or in the water)

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Garden Trio (PB), Carefree Wishes (PB)
Ink:   Memento Toffee Crunch, Dried Marigold, Carved Pumpkin, Rusty Hinge, Brushed Corduroy (DI), Early Espresso (SU)
Paper:   Mixed Media (Strathmore), Glossy (TH), Neenah Solar White
Other:  Alcohol Ink, Garden Trio Die (PB), Geometric Frames (PB), Black Micron Pen

Enjoy!

Summertime

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

We are firmly entrenched in the hot summertime.  Here's where I'd
like to be.

Maybe not as I write this.  There's a tropical storm headed out way so those
ocean breezes might be a little too stiff.

I made a bunch of these cards for last month's swap with my Craft Group.
There are a LOT of pieces to die cut and put together!

I cut all those pieces from cardstock and patterned paper scraps.

The background was brushed on and the sun is a punched circle with ink added
around the edges.  The sand is torn paper with acrylic paint along the edges
for foam along the shore and breaking waves.

Challenges:
Darnell's I.D.E.A.S. - Week 1 is Ink (in the background)
Just Us Girls #782 - Use Summer Things Dies

Card Recipe
Stamps:
Ink:   Speckled Egg, Faded Jeans, Scattered Straw, Mustard Seed (DI), Crumb Cake (SU)
Paper:   Neenah Solar White, Kraft, Blush, Textured, Foil, PP (scraps)
Other:  Day at the Beach dies (SB), Circle Punch, Hydrangea Punch, White Acrylic Paint

Enjoy!

Shattered

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

This week's Freshly Made Sketches spoke to me after yesterday's news.

I've never made political statements on my blog before, but yesterday's news about the passing
of the outrageous bill has forced me to speak out.

I keep asking myself what I can do to keep the values that I treasure?

I can vote and I did.  But that didn't seem to do any good.

I will continue to surround myself with people who care about all of our fellowmen.

And I will do more to feed the hungry...no matter what their nationality, and treat all
with dignity and respect.

Is that enough?

Probably not, but it's a first step.

Frustrated!

More Winged Things

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I don't usually post twice in one day, but these challenges are closing
and I wanted to get the cards in.

There are quite a few stenciling challenges out there right now, so I got out my
Magenta Dragonfly stencil and paired it with a background from my stash.

I used Versafine Nocturne to ink these dragonflies through the stencil and
the background had a notation on the back that it was done with Brushos, a bubble
stencil and some stamping.

The design piece is crooked on the black mat to give it more of a homemade look, LOL!
It wasn't moving!  We'll just say that the dragonflies taking off caused the shift!

Challenges:
Darnell's I.D.E.A.S. - 5th Week Stencils
Just Us Girls #781 - ATG Stencil
Seize the Birthday #308 - Add a silhouette

Card Recipe
Stamps:  BP Cheers to You (SB), Script (?), By the Tide (ret SU)
Ink:   Marina Mist, Nocturne (VC)
Paper:   Mixed Media (Strathmore), Black, Neenah Solar White
Other:  Dragonfly Stencil (Magenta), Brushos (Turquoise, Sea Green), Bubbly Stencil (Kaisercraft), Opaque White Foil (SB), Glimmer Machine

Enjoy!

Winged Things

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

Happy Monday.

This first one is for Freshly Made Sketches.  I pulled this mop up background from
my stash and added it to a watercolor card base.  Three squares were die cut from
another piece of watercolor paper and some simple flowers were stamped on top.

Butterflies were cut from the rest of the mop up background to add to the squares.

A foiled sentiment finishes it off.

I'm sending this to Freshly Made Sketches #692. Here's Narelle's sketch...

Card Recipe
Stamps:  BP It's Your Day (SB), Nurturing Blooms (GKD)
Ink: Crisp Cantaloupe
Paper:   Watercolor (Strathmore), Mixed Media (Strathmore), Black
Other:  Stitched Butterfly Trio (PS), Stitched Square die (?), Opaque White Foil (SB)

Enjoy!

Generation Stamping with Group of Seven Cardmakers

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

This month, the Group of Seven is stretching the inking with generation stamping
(sometimes called second generation stamping, repetitive stamping or stamping off).

It's such an easy technique to get depth in a design.  Once I got started, I
kept on going.  I apologize for the long post.

This is actually the second card I did.  I stamped the leaves on mixed media paper
so I could use my waterbrush to get a watercolored look.  I inked the leaves and
stamped three more times without reinking, then smoothed the color with water.
For the "background" leaves, I was careful to keep cleaning my brush to
keep them lighter.

This was my first attempt with this stamp.  I had the brilliant idea to add splatters.
It didn't look good with the daisy so I set it aside.  After a day or so, it looked
better but still not good with the daisy.   This butterfly that was in the UFO butterfly
box worked much better.

This card was done with a two part stamp (leaves and bloom).  Again I
stamped multiple times without reinking.  I have the die for these little
flowers but I thought the freesia die cut looked better.  The little ones got
lost with all the flowers in the background.

Last is my least favorite but I decided to share it anyway.

Do go over to the Group of Seven blog and see what my creative friends have
done with this technique.  There are links to videos showing this technique and
Loll has added some good instructions.

Bouquet

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

This month has flown by and I'm running out of time to enter

This month they are asking for embossing (either heat or dry) on our floral cards.

No problem there!  I die cut some favorite flowers from mixed media paper used
a combination of brushing ink on them and watercoloring with Distress re-inkers.

When the flowers were dry, I placed them on an piece of cardstock embossed
with a doily die.  I love how the poppy dies embossing texture into the flowers!

Challenges:
Darnell's I.D.E.A.S. - Anything goes week
Flower Challenge #103 - Add embossing
Seize the Birthday - ATG Birthday (did not use the option of fancy fold)

Poinsettias

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I am woefully behind on making Christmas cards!

For those of you who think it's too early to think about Christmas cards, I feel
like the first half of this year has flown by and that only leaves a moment before
I need to get those cards in the mail!  So here's some for the stash.

First up was done using Michele's sketch at Freshly Made Sketches.

I used Distress re-inkers (listed below) to get a rich color and actually went over
the petals with some Real Red re-inker.

No stem for this poinsettia, but it represented with the thin gold strip that
separates the two background panels.

This actually was the last card I did.  Before that I'd done another using last
week's sketch.  I was too slow to be able to add it to the gallery.
A week goes by way too quickly!

So here are two more....

This is a great sketch and one I'll use again and again.

The poinsettias were cut from watercolor paper and smooshed into spritzed distress in
on my palette, then shaped and put together with a drop of glue in the center
of the flower.

The embossing is the same for all three.

This one used the same colors but more water.

I'll take this pink poinsettia to the Peace on Earth Challenge.
