Through the Woods

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

Time Out is asking for our favorite song.

Mine is How Great Thou Art.  This card illustrates the second verse.
I've printed the first two verses and chorus below.

I used the sketch that Jen T. created for Freshly Made Sketches #695.

The watercolor background was done with Distress inks on Mixed Media paper.
The die cut was from linen paper and shaded with watercolor pencil.
Birds were cut from some Brusho backgrounds and
the sentiment was computer generated.

How Great Thou Art

O Lord my God
When I in awesome wonder
Consider all the works
Thy hands have made,
I see the stars,
I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy pow’r throughout
The universe displayed!

Chorus
Then sings my soul,
My Savior God, to Thee;
How great Thou art,
How great Thou art!
Then sings my soul,
My Savior God, to Thee;
How great Thou art,
How great Thou art!

When thru the woods
And forest glades I wander
And hear the birds
Sing sweetly in the trees,
When I look down
From lofty mountain grandeur
And hear the brook
And feel the gentle breeze,

Chorus
Then sings my soul,
My Savior God, to Thee;
How great Thou art,
How great Thou art!
Then sings my soul,
My Savior God, to Thee;
How great Thou art,
How great Thou art!

                                Carl Boberg, 1886

If you get a chance, listen to Carrie Underwood singing this on YouTube.

Absolutely beautiful rendition of that wonderful hymn, Bonnie! I can't imagine a more fabulous use of Jen's Sketch - something tells me you had this one playing while you were crafting, my friend!

This card is beautiful! I love that little scene, especially with the bluebirds. How Great Thou Art is one of my favorite songs too. When I was in first or second grade, we sang it every day at VBS and it floods my memory bank every time I hear it and sing it! Thanks for the fond remembrances!

Wow! I knew we had a lot in common - How Great Thou Art is my favorite song also. I love your interpretation of the second chorus with your lovely card - it is perfect. The scene is perfect for the sketch also. TFS

How beautiful that card and song both are. Your take on the song with that card is so touching. I have heard Carrie sing that and it brings me to tears every time.

I love that hymn too, Bonnie, and we sang it at my parents' celebration of life. You portrayed that verse beautifully with the window die cut and little birds singing in trees. Thanks for sharing your card with us at Just Us Girls.

OH MY! The minute I saw this card I thought it was very special indeed - amazing. Probably one of your very best. I am not surprised with the hymn you chose.The minute I saw the words my heart started singing the hymn. Thank you Bonnie, you have started my day in a very special way.

Your card is beautiful and I have a similar die to make something like it. There are so many beautiful hymns; Amazing Grace is another that I really enjoy. Thanks for sharing.

Beautifully done Bonnie!!!! My favorite song is 'Amazing Grace' and has been since I was a teen - over 70 years ago. This die is 'amazing' so I went on a hunt and was able to find it on E-Bay so quickly purchased it....will be having lots of FUN with this one TFS Bonnie!!!

That is a beautiful song and I have to wonder if it's partly responsible for my appreciation of all the beautiful things of earth, because I stood in the pews and sang this many times when I was growing up. What an absolutely lovely card, Bonnie! I do love a forest most of all.

Love the way you've incorporated the brook, the birds and the woods from the verse you chose. That is such a lovely die of the birch trees.

What a perfect card to show your favorite Hymn. It's one of mine too. I usually end up with wet eyes when I sing it. Just listening to it can do it once in a while too. The other one that gets to me every time is Amazing Grace. I may have to try this challenge. Had not seen it before. Your pretty little bluebirds are nice to show off a pop of color.

Bonnie, you did a great job of portraying your hymn into card form. What a great scene you've created too. I wish I could stay somewhere with that serene view. Thanks so much for playing with us at Time Out!
