Alcohol Ink with Gilding Flakes for GO7

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

This month the Group of Seven Cardmakers had a messy play with alcohol inks and
Gilding Flakes.

I did four cards from two pieces of gilded alcohol ink.

First up....

For the blue piece, I used lots of alcohol with the ink on Yupo paper and my
Tim Holtz Ink Blower to move the colors in fun patterns. I let it dry completely and
tried to add gilding flakes to the sticky areas.

I couldn't get it to stick, so I used the skinny tip
of my Bearly Arts glue and added thin beads of glue to some areas then covered the glue with the
gilding flakes and let it sit for a while before rubbing the excess flakes off.

I die cut some
feathers from it.  You can't see it in the photo, but there are dry embossed
feathers in the background.

With the rest of the piece, I CASEd myself...

I hadn't used this fun die in a long time and it works so well with
alcohol inked backgrounds.

Then I did a piece of green and made two more cards.

My first Christmas card of the New Year...

Again I used lots of alcohol with the ink on Yupo paper and my Tim Holtz Ink Blower to move
the color around.  Before the piece was completely dry, I covered it with gilding flakes
and pressed into the ink.  I left it to dry a bit then I used a scrubby to rub off the excess.

There was still some sticky places after it dried and I couldn't get the flakes to stick
so I sprinkled baby powder over the top and rubbed off with a dry baby wipe.
This worked great to get the sticky off.

For my final card, I used the rest of the green piece...

and added an Irish Blessing and hot foiled butterfly to it.
The butterfly was hot foiled on acetate and put on top of a die cut
of plain white.  The antenna is from gold cardstock.

Do go over to the Group of Seven website and check out the instructive videos and
the beautiful examples the rest of the GO7 gals have done.  They have good tips and tricks
for this technique on their blogs.  If you try it yourself, you can link up your results
over there too.  The biggest tip I have is to wait until AFTER you do this to vacuum!

Joyful Deer

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I hope you are enjoying preparations for holidays if you celebrate them,
and are taking time to take a deep breath and enjoy!

This sweet deer looks like that's just what she's doing.

I had some kits left from my last class and this sweet deer was a perfect fit.

My Copic coloring is looking a little rough.  Some of my markers are

Shiny Bauble

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I've been so busy with classes and trying to finish up my Christmas cards that
I have neglected my blog.

That Color Hues challenge has been rolling around in my brain and I finally
took the time to use it for a card.

I found a piece of alcohol inked Yupo paper inked with red and gold that made
a good pairing with this NBUS ornament die.

There are gold lines in the bauble that were made by rubbing Deco Foil along
the sticky bits of the alcohol ink.  They don't want to show well in the photo.

Then I die cut some pine sprigs from gold foil cardstock and a few little dots from
the leftover piece of gold foil.

The sentiment was stamped and heat embossed.

I love how these colors show against a black background.

Challenges:
Color Hues #76 - Red & Metallic Gold
Double D - Stripes or Dots (gold dots)
NBUS #56 - Never Before Used Schtuff (Ornament Die)

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Merry Christmas (IO)
Ink:   Encore Gold
Paper:   Black, Gold Foil, Yupo
Other:  Alcohol Inks (Red Pepper, Gold Mixative), Gold Deco Foil, Fir Sprig die (SSS), Holiday Messages Ornament die (SSS)

Enjoy!

Oh Deer

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I was trying to think of a design using light blue and purple for Color Hues
and found this piece of salted background using these colors.

I also had a NBUS stamp and die set (I just used the dies this time) that was
perfect for the Double D Deer Challenge.  Thanks for the enabling, my friends.

You can barely see the embossing in the background.  That embossing folder
was NBUS too.  I'm slowly whittling away at that NBUS Christmas box.

I sponged some white ink over the embossing then sprinkled some Chunky Frantage
over the top and heat embossed from the back.  Torn scrap paper made the snowbanks
and a stamped purple sentiment finish it up.

Challenges:
Color Hues #75 - Light Blue & Purple
Double D - Oh Deer
NBUS #56 - Never Before Used Schtuff (New Dies)

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Bitty Holiday Wishes (MFT)
Ink:   Gorgeous Grape (SU)
Paper:   Watercolor (Strath), Neenah Solar White
Other:  Gansai Tambi Watercolors (Light Blue, Purple), Salt, Snowy Forest EF, Deer to Me Dies (PTI)

Two Sunflowers

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

Today I have two very similar cards.

I cut two sunflowers and colored them with Simon Says ink and blending brushes.

I wasn't sure what I wanted to do with them.  The die cuts are quite large and my idea of
using both of them on a card was not working out.

As usual, I went into trial and error mode.

Oops.  I got the sentiment too far to the right.  It was a good excuse for using
one of these self stick buttons I'd recently bought at a sale by a Stampin' Up! demonstrator.
I believe they are retired but I was able to get two sheets of them.

I was glad I had a second sunflower in the wings.

This time I got the sentiment centered.

Challenges:
Beautiful Blossoms #8 - (Inspired by the sunflower on the 1st mood board below)
Double D - Sunflowers (See 2nd mood board below)

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Brushed Calligraphy #2 (Inky Antics), Splatters (?)

Paper:   Rustic White (PTI), Neenah Solar White, Chocolate Chip
Other:  Sunflower Stem Die (SSS), Stitched Rectangles Die (SSS), A2 Thin Frames Die (SSS)

Yellow Magnolia

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I have a new die...

and with the Color Hues challenge being yellow and green (two of my favorite colors),
I Googled to see if magnolias came in yellow.  They do.

So I die cut the flowers and branch from mixed media paper and used Distress Markers
and my waterbrush to color all the pieces.

When coloring the leaves and flowers, I laid the pieces on another piece of mixed
media paper and did a sloppy watercoloring going over the edges onto the
piece in the background.  It gives an interesting background and the colors are perfect.

Then I looked at all those pieces and was stumped as to where they all went.

Fortunately there are some illustrations online that act as a roadmap and I've
got to say that although these flowers are pretty without all the extra little pieces, they are
amazing with them. And I was quite proud of myself that I could find all the pieces!

Challenges:
Color Hues - Yellow & Green
Double D - Color (yellow)
NBUS #51 - Never Before Used Schtuff

Stamps:  Friendship Messages (SSS)

Painted Poppy

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I do love poppies and have quite a collection of poppy stamps and dies.
So when our craft group was trying to think of a subject for our swap this month,
I suggested poppies.  With Memorial Day coming up, it seemed fitting.

Then I had a problem of choosing which poppy stamp or die to use.

Altenew's Painted Poppy won, hands down!

I stamped and colored it in the traditional Memoria Day red poppy.

Then for my blue loving friends.

Finally in pink.  (The border is pink, but the camera seems to see red.)

I used Bristol paper for all of these.  It warped pretty bad.  I managed to get it flattened.
Note to self to used Mixed Media or Watercolor paper next time.
