Fall Blessings

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I'm really rushing to get this one in to the Spellbinders Club Inspiration.

My goal is to use the 3D embossing folder from the club before this
linky goes to bed.  It was really close this time!

I've stamped the larger pumpkin twice with Tangerine ink on a die cut arched piece.
I did some messy sponging around the edges and then used two of the dies to
cut a frame to cover some of that up.

I stamped the smaller pumpkin with Sahara Sand ink on a scrap of Natural Cardstock
and colored in that pretty flower with colored pencils.

I added a sentiment then put it on a piece embossed with this month's
Mushroom Harvest 3D Embossing Folder.

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Charming Pumpkins (Spl)
Ink:   Tangerine Tango, Sahara Sand, Chocolate Chip (SU), Brushed Corduroy (DOX)
Paper:   Neenah Natural, Warm Cocoa (GKD)
Other:  Essential Arches Dies (Spl), Mushroom Harvest 3D EF, Caran d'ache Supracolor Pencils

Enjoy!

Dry Embossing with Re-inker with GO7

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

It's time to share what the Group of Seven Cardmakers has been up to this month.

This time we followed this video by Devid Roodinburg.

Devid did a background using water and re-inkers.  I was lazy and pulled a background
colored with Brushos that was very bright.

Then we inked the flat side of an embossing folder with pigment ink.

This is where I had a problem.  I was skeptical of putting ink on my embossing folder;
especially black ink!  But I gave it a try.  The video suggested Versafine Clair ink.  I don't
have that in black so I used my Versafine Onyx black, put my colored background in, and
ran it through.  I didn't have good coverage on the paper so I inked and ran it through again.

I may not have got it lined up perfectly because it looked a little off when I
took it out.  The background was still splotchy too.

Then I cleaned the folder with hand sanitizer.

Then I cleaned with 91% alcohol.

And again with the alcohol.

Then gave it a good soak in soapy water.

I'm glad I didn't use my favorite embossing folder because it still has a grayish
cast to it that transfers to white cardstock.

Devid added a step of swiping with VersaMark and adding some gold embossing powder.
Since I wasn't crazy about my results I figured I'd give it a go.
I do like it better now.  And I used a black Sharpie around the flowers to
get rid of the splotchiness in the background.

I tried it again and took a photo before I added gold embossing powder.

I didn't like how some of the leaves are black but I think that's more due to
the embossing folder.

I made a card from it, but I'm not at all happy with it, but I thought I'd
share it anyway.

The rest of the Group of Seven Cardmakers had fantastic results.  Do go and see
what they did and what worked for them.  They had much better luck than I did!

Two for Christmas

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

First up has a vintage feel.

The music stamp is a new acquisition from a friend's stash.  After lightly stamping,
I used a stencil a sweet friend sent me for my birthday.  Two wreaths were layered in
the top of the arch and that pretty bow was in with the die.

I had to be a bit creative with the bird.  I don't have a cardinal that's the right scale.
So I cut the bird from another set leaving the top of his head off the plate
so I could cut his crest with scissors.

The second Christmas card was inspired by the mood board at Peace on Earth.

Those white snowflake cupcakes gave me an immediate idea.

I've embossed the snowflakes and lightly dragged a VersaMark pad over the raised
edges.  I sprinkled Heat & Stick powder over top and heat set.  Then I sprinkled some
fine crystal glitter over top and heated again. I don't know if you can see it, but it has
lots of sparkle to go with the shiny gold.

More Stylized Flowers

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I have another card using this month's Spellbinders 3D Embossing Folder.

I got a bit carried away from my usual CAS style!

Jack had painted a piece covered in roses and told me I could use it for a card.

It was sitting on my table while I was working with this embossing folder and I
thought, why not?

It really was too busy to show the lovely embossing, but I kept going anyway.

I embossed a piece of Neenah Solar White and fussy cut two of the flowers out to
place over one of the flowers.  I had some die cut branches and butterflies
sitting on the table and added them too.

The die cut sentiment was already cut so I added that too.

It's not my favorite card and I wish I'd used his beautiful roses in a better way,
but it is another way to use this embossing folder.

Leafy Bird

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I don't think it's a surprise the I like birds!

Whether they are outside or in the studio, they are among my favorite blessings.

I had this embossed background laying on my table since the 3D Embossing Folder
arrived.  I wasn't sure what I'd do with it.  I think it would be beautiful colored.
But I decided to keep it plain and color some NBUS Spellbinder die cuts to go with it.

The bird was colored with Distress Markers and spread with a waterbrush.
The leaves were colored with a blending brush and ink.

I trimmed it down and used the same colors to brush ink on a leftover strip of
watercolor paper to add a bit of contrast to the background.

I am loving these Scripted Die cuts and need to do some more.
It's very handy to have some cut and ready to go!

More Coloring of Dry Embossing

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

Another technique for July's Group of Seven Cardmakers
Coloring Embossing Folders.

This time I used Inkpad Swiping by Erum Tasneem.

Spellbinders Seahorse Garden fits perfectly with their Scattered Shells 3D Embossing Folder.

I really love the look of colored embossing and enjoy all the ways of doing it
for my cards.  I'm sure you'll be seeing more of it in the future.

You can see other examples and fantastic inspiration at

Coloring Dry Embossing

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

This month the Group of Seven Cardmakers are coloring dry embossing.
Today I'm sharing two techniques.  One is colored with ink that is sponged or brushed on
with blending brushes.  The other is watercoloring.

First up is sponging...

supplies used

Since the flowers and leaves are quite small with this embossing folder, I used mini
sponge daubers that I bought at Michaels.

Next is watercoloring...

supplies used

I embossed Arches cold press watercolor paper for this one.
There is a learning curve as the embossing changes the texture and absorption of
the watercolor paper.

I wasn't happy with the scrolls so I "painted" them with water and sprinkled gold
embossing powder over them and heat embossed.

I find that 3D embossing folders work best for coloring.

There are video tutorials and more inspiration at

Emboss and Gold

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I love metallic details on my cards, but the shine makes for difficult photography!

I've used one of my favorite 3D embossing folders paired with some Tim Holtz
golden Wildflower Stems for a wedding or anniversary card.  I'll add the sentiment
when I know where this is going.

Purple Alstroemeria

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

It's a busy time around here but I have had time to play with my current favorite flower.

I had seen the Alstroemeria blooms in bouquets but didn't know what it was called
until Simon Says Stamp came out with two dies to "die" for.  I can't decide which I like the best!

This time the large die with the matching 3D embossing folder won out.

I used the embossing folder on purple cardstock and gently daubed white ink over the
raised parts.  The die cut flower was embossed and gently colored with sponge daubers and
touched with a damp waterbrush.

I used a Supracolor pencil with a very sharp point to color the seed details.  When it was
all colored up, I put it back in the embossing folder for another pass through.

I topped it all off with a gold die cut sentiment that's another current favorite in the studio.

Alstoemeria Bunch Happy Birthday

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I'm back again at Seize the Birthday as their Surprise Party Guest.

Who doesn't love a birthday party!

I have used this wonderful 3D Embossing Folder with Die from Simon Says.
I embossed on Neenah Solar White and cut the flower from Fabriano Watercolor paper.

To color, I used Distress Oxide inks and a sponge dauber, then went over the coloring
with a damp waterbrush. It's such an easy way to get that watercolor look!

I had to hunt, but I found a banner die in my stash.  After cutting it, I added a gold
embossed sentiment.

As usual, I overdid it with splatters.  It was an easy fix with the waterbrush and
a little blending over the flower.  I used a gold gel pen to add some gold highlights
to tie in with the banner.

Remember you don't have to use the topping on your birthday card to join the party.
Just be sure that it's a birthday card.  And if you're a topping kind of person, you can add
a birthday banner.  Hope to see you over at Seize the Birthday.

Now let's go see what that awesome Design Team and Guest Designers have done.

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Fun Birthday Sentiments (HLS-OOB)
Ink:   Picked Raspberry, Mowed Lawn, Rustic Wilderness (DOX), Versafine Onyx Black, Encore Gold
Paper:   Neenah Solar White, Watercolor (Fabriano Extra White Cold Press)
Other:  Alstroemeria Bunch EF & Die (SSS), Sponge Daubers, Banner Die (?), Gold EP, Gold Gel Pen, Posca Pen for splatters

Enjoy!

Leftovers for Christmas

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I have two Christmas cards today that use leftovers and NBUS.

I used a piece from my stash made with Gelli plates.  I embossed it with a NBUS
embossing folder and swiped a white inkpad over the raised design.

The piece was quite large so I cut it in half to use on two cards.

I embossed the snowflakes on a background piece too.

This card uses left over snowflakes that were cut previously and not used.
I just layered up two of them and added a pearl in the center.

Then I used the leftover Gelli Plate background for another card.

This time I die cut the cardinal from red cardstock and used a sponge dauber to
add some black around the edges.  I just used the dauber with the ink left from
the last playtime. No need to re-ink.

The greenery has some Puff Embossing Powder to make it look snowy.
