A Different Way of Coloring

I tried a different coloring technique for me.

I had so much fun doing this card!

The image was stamped with Whisper White ink.
using my MISTI!
Love that tool!

I quickly heat embossed it with clear embossing powder.

Then came the fun.

I colored using sponge daubers and my Stampin' Up! inks.

I pretty much plopped the dauber in the center of the flower and sponged outward.

Some of those flowers were pretty small.

It's not exact but it pleases me more than precise coloring
which I cannot  prefer not to do.

When I was all finished, I went over it with a damp Aqua Painter
to fill in some white space.

(Good thing I used watercolor paper.)

I couldn't decide what to put for a sentiment so
I quit stressing about it and left it blank.

I can add something later if need be.

The whole panel is popped up on a piece of fun foam
and is a little bigger than my usual cards.

What kind of coloring (or colouring)
do you like to do?

Colouring with Happy Little Stampers

It's time for another challenge at

I love to color.

I just can't decide which method I prefer!

Today, I colored with Zigs....

and some Wink of Stella.

I stamped one of the butterflies from my
Happy Little Stampers Butterfly Birthday set,
using black Archival ink.

The coloring was done with Zigs 31 & 81 and my Aqua Painter.

I wanted a tall, skinny card so I cut a piece of watercolor paper
  12 1/2" x 3 1/4" and scored at 6 1/4", embossed down the middle
and scored the edges.

After fussy cutting the butterfly and placing it on the card,
I coated the wings with Wink of Stella.

What kind of coloring (colouring) do you like to do.

If you need some inspiration, check out the awesome deigns
by our Design Team and our Guest Designer, Riti.

We'd love to see your coloring at

and the winner of this challenge will receive this stamp set.

I'm so glad you could stop by.

Enjoy!

Flora and Fauna2 Butterfly for Happy Little Stampers

There's a new challenge at

I inked up the large butterfly from the Flora and Fauna 2 set with Archival Black ink
and stamped it on a snippet of  watercolor paper.

Then I pulled out my new (squeel) Zig Clean Brush Markers
and colored it up!

I found that these markers blend so easily.

I have the 12 pack set so my colors are limited.

I love the vibrant colors!

I cut a mask for the butterfly, placed it on the dry watercolor,
and stamped with the French Script background stamp.

I used the MISTI for stamping on the watercolor paper.

I rarely get a good stamping on the first pass.

Check out the other DT cards.  They are AMAZING!

Then use a mask and join us at
You have the whole month.

I'm also joining in again at
ANYTHING GOES

This is still my oldest (and only) Wplus9 set.
Hoping to rectify that ASAP!

Watercolor Wings in Mint

Here's a little reminder of the
for this month.

This time I did 4 step stamping.

I stamped the fullest butterfly first in Mint Macaroon ink, stamping off on scrap first.

Then I built used the next fullest stamp doing the same thing.

The outside of the wings were stamped without stamping off.

The last piece was also stamped full strength.

Being photopolymer, it was easy to see where I was stamping.

Where I was a little off, I used a damp Aqua Painter to blend the colors.

After die cutting, I used some Wink of Stella around the outer circle
and over the butterfly.

Can  you see that shimmer?

I finished the butterfly off with a little sequin.

is stamping too.

I hope I don't have too much embossing and die cutting to qualify.
Since the main images are stamped, I'm going to share anyway.

A Feather for Happy Little Stampers

I'm a little late with this announcement.

Somehow the days got away from me.

So maybe it's not news to you.

But I'm excited to announce that

I am now on the

I'll be designing for the CAS team
and I couldn't be more excited!

If you haven't been to the
site, do go take a look.

There are 2 challenges each month (sketch and CAS).

Next month a Christmas Card Challenge will be added.

The challenges last a month so there's lots of time to participate.

There are also lots of wonderful tutorials and a forum to discuss topics of interest at this site.

It's a free site with lots of information and inspiration.

This month's CAS challenge is

A friend recently gave me some Color Wash Sprays.

This challenge gave me the excuse to pull them out.

I've got to admit, I was a bit hesitant.

They are kind of messy, but not too bad.

I sprayed a scrap piece of watercolor paper.
(I didn't want to waste some good stuff if it didn't work out.)

I had this wonderful feather stamp that was a recent gift from a dear friend.
Thanks again, MH!

It seemed that it was a perfect fit for this sprayed paper.

What do you think?

Lots going on this week so I've gotta run.

Thanks for stopping by.

Enjoy!

Watercolor Coverup for Happy Little Stampers CAS Challenge

I am Guest Designing again today for
Happy Little Stampers CAS Challenge

This is the end result of trying a new technique with die cuts that just didn't work out.

I tried to use the negative of the die as a stencil to
watercolor a butterfly.

A lesson in why to use stamps!

Or get better at watercolor!

Now, I could have done like Darnell did and use a fine point marker to
add some detail to the butterfly.

But I had a die cut just sitting there.

So I popped it on.

Then I stamped the sentiment directly on the watercolor.

What?  You don't see it there?

It was crooked.  And I mean really crooked!

Soooooo......

I tore it off and stamped on the card.

I really had to work hard for this one!

I added three black pearls.

One snuck away before I could get the photo.

I noticed that it was missing and added one before I mailed it.

Thanks for the visit.

Enjoy!

Fresh Daisies for Happy Little Stampers CAS Challenge

I am enjoying being the Guest Designer at
Happy Little Stampers CAS Challenge.

Here's the challenge

I die cut 8 of the flowers from Whisper White and sponged
Marina Mist ink on them.

Three more were cut from some scraps of  DP not being too fussy about complete blooms.

Using Loll's technique, I shaped the blossoms and layered them by gluing
just the bottoms of the blooms together with some Crystal Effects and
dropping some faux flower soft into the glue.

I glued the blooms to the stems and assembled them on the stenciled piece.

Here's a look at the same design with single blooms and no shaping.

I'm so glad I went back and did the shaping.

While I like the single flowers,  I LOVE the shaped ones!

Simon Brand Products this week.

I hope you'll be inspired to create a CAS card using die cuts

Thanks for stopping by.

Enjoy!

Poinsettia and Holly for Merry Monday

It's my turn to choose the challenge at Merry Monday this week.

This is what I chose.

Need I say it?  I LOVE embossing.  Especially the dry embossing.

And this is one of my favorite embossing folders.

I did some partial embossing to leave a space in the middle for a sentiment.
(There are lots of tutorials on the web about how to do this.)
And I added a scored line on the edge of each embossed section.

I die cut the smaller flowers from my Spellbinders Poinsettia die
and used Loll's technique to shade and shape it.
What a difference this makes!

Then I added a few gold beads to the center of the flower and
added punched pine sprigs and a bit of ribbon underneath.

This is one of the few cards that started with a firm idea and
actually turned out the way I envisioned it.

That doesn't happen very often!

Since I used die cuts and punched pieces,
I'm linking up to

Happy Little Stampers CAS Challenge.

Where I am this month's Guest Designer.

My snippets for the poinsettia will let me in to
Pixies Snippet Playground.

I hope you'll pull out your embossing folders or powders and join us at
Merry Monday.

I'm so glad you stopped by.

Enjoy!

Dies and Punches, Watercolor Too

I am so excited to be the Guest Designer at
for the month of May.

Here's the challenge for this month.

who is the leader of this challenge, has posted a video
to show how to get dimension from your die cuts.

Be sure to check it out.
What a difference the sponging and shaping make!

I used 2 dies and a punch for this card.
The die is by Penny Black
and the punch is Stampin' Up!

I cut the iris and sponged it, then used an Aqua Painter to spread the colors.

Using Loll's technique, I "curled" the petals
with a burnishing tool.

Adhering the iris with tiny pieces of dimensionals added even more depth to the card.

I love the dimension.  IRL it looks like the iris is growing out of the card!
