Yellow Magnolia

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I have a new die...

and with the Color Hues challenge being yellow and green (two of my favorite colors),
I Googled to see if magnolias came in yellow.  They do.

So I die cut the flowers and branch from mixed media paper and used Distress Markers
and my waterbrush to color all the pieces.

When coloring the leaves and flowers, I laid the pieces on another piece of mixed
media paper and did a sloppy watercoloring going over the edges onto the
piece in the background.  It gives an interesting background and the colors are perfect.

Then I looked at all those pieces and was stumped as to where they all went.

Fortunately there are some illustrations online that act as a roadmap and I've
got to say that although these flowers are pretty without all the extra little pieces, they are
amazing with them. And I was quite proud of myself that I could find all the pieces!

Challenges:
Color Hues - Yellow & Green
Double D - Color (yellow)
NBUS #51 - Never Before Used Schtuff

Daisy Daisy

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I've been playing with a NBUS daisy die.

For the first card, I die cut with a cover plate and kept all the little pieces intact.
Then I die cut the daisy and fern from cold press watercolor paper to
smoosh and watercolor. using Zigs.

You may need your sunglasses for the next one!

This daisy was die cut from Neenah Solar White and the stem from cold press
watercolor paper,  I colored with Zigs and a slightly damp brush on the Neenah.
The embossed yellow background was in the UFO box and seemed perfect
for a background for this daisy. The frame was a leftover too.

Now to tone it down a bit...

This time I cut the flower from Bristol paper and the stem from cold press watercolor paper.
I used the Print Making technique loosely coloring it over a piece of mixed media paper
letting the color run into background.  Actually the yellow is much lighter IRL.

Challenges:
Double D - Mood Board below
The Flower Challenge #78 - Die Cuts or Stencils
Seize the Birthday - no toppings this time

Hummingbird for Color Hues

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I used a NBUS die from Dee's Distinctively and a print making technique
to make this card.

I cut the bird from Arches cold press watercolor paper and laid it on a piece
of Mixed Media while I did some messy watercoloring.  I love how it leaves some
matching colors for an Impressionist background.

I colored the bird with the colors from Color Hues and winked his wings to
give the feeling of movement.  To finish I added a die cut
hibiscus for the hummer to zoom in on.

The textured background is the inside of the cover from a mixed media pad.

Challenges:
Color Hues #41 - Aqua & Red
NBUS - Never Before Used Schtuff (hummingbird & hibiscus die)

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Sketched Flowers (SSS)
Ink:   Versafine Onyx Black
Paper:   Watercolor (Arches cold press), Mixed Media (Strathmore), Mixed Media Pad Cover
Other:  Hummingbird 2 die (Dee's Distinctively), Aloha Hibiscus die (Frantic Stamper), Re-inkers (Pool Party, Real Red), Black Sharpie, White Nuvo Crystal Drops

Enjoy!

Autumn Colours Watercolouring for CAS Mix Up

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

It's time for a new challenge at CAS Mix Up.
This month we're doing watercoloring.

This month, Leslie is our talented host and she chose...

I've die cut this lovely Memory Box poppy from watercolor paper
and colored it with  Distress Inks.

To get the background, I laid the die cuts on a piece of Mixed Media paper.
My messy watercoloring gets just enough color on the background.

I die cut extra flower heads from the same piece of watercolor paper
and colored to match so I could have lots of dimension.

I used my NBUS Mini Slimline Double Stitched Die to cut out the main image
and to cut the edges of the sentiment strip.

The textured background is the backside of the cover to a Mixed Media pad and
the black center to the open flower is done with Prills.

Our fantastic Design Team and our amazing Guest Designer, Ros have
lots of wonderful inspiration for you.  There are also videos with
some great ideas for using Autumn colors on cards.

I hope you'll check us out and join us at

Print Making for CAS Mix Up

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

It's time for a new challenge at CAS Mix Up and it's a special month!

I'm hosting this month.
It's a watercolor month and I chose one of my favorite techniques...

Basically I die cut an image from watercolor paper and laid it on another
piece of watercolor paper so the run off watercolor goes on the background.

I also turn the wet colored die cut over and press into the background.

It's an easy way to have all the colors agreeing with each other!

You can see Kathey Racoosin's video tutorial here.

Be sure to check out the awesome inspiration from our talented designers
and we are delighted to have Ros as our Guest Designer this month!

I hope you'll join our 5th Birthday celebration!

Challenges:

NBUS - Stitched Circle Die is from my NBUS box

Enjoy!

Purple Times Two

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

The rain has stopped for a few days and it feels like Spring will come!

Memory Box is asking for PURPLE this month and I'm happy to comply.

I actually did the second card first, but realized that that particular die isn't
available anymore.  So I came up with plan B.

This pretty corner die was cut from watercolor paper and watercolored with
Distress Inks.  The background die is also from Memory Box.

It would make a perfect shaker card, but I didn't have any suitable colors of
shakers in my stash.

I did add some splatters and pearls.

I used the Print Making technique for this card by watercoloring the lavender
on a mixed media piece and turning the flowers over and pressing down so
some of the wet ink transferred to the background.

Inspired By Challenge is asking for a quote and this is one of my favorites.
It's from a company that has since gone out of business.  Sorry.

Bird Amidst the Holly

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by.

I'd like to you meet Bobby Carl.

Bobby Carl is Jack's creation.  He wanted to color the bird for this card.

Of course he needed a name. LOL.

Making the card drains all the creativity out of me.  There's not usually
enough left to name anything.  What fun to add Jack's creativity!

I hope you're not sick of print making.  It makes so much sense to watercolor
the die cuts on the background.  I can be messy and it works out fine.

Bobby Carl is going to visit at CAS Christmas where
our friend Christine is asking for...

I'm also adding to a new to me challenge - Christmas 24

Thanks for the visit and special thanks for your comments.

Enjoy!

Perfect Pearls with Friends

Hi there.  I'm glad you stopped by!

I've had Perfect Pearls for years and hadn't used them in years.

So when my sweet, organized and talented friend Loll suggested a Zoom get together
using Perfect Pearls, I was all in!

I die cut the butterfly from Mixed Media paper so it was all ready to add color.
Then I smooshed  Distress ink on my palette, tapped a bit of Pearl Perfect Pearls on the ink,
spritzed with a bit of water and mixing it to use as watercolor.

I laid the die cut on another piece of  mixed media paper so my messiness
would run off on it for a background.  While the butterfly was very inky, I turned
it over and pressed it down for Print Making.  Then I covered the print butterfly when
I made the card.  Oh well, it made an interesting background.

I also added a snowflake that was laying on my table. I just liked the look of it
under the butterfly.

You can see the pearly shine better here.

Of course I didn't stop at one!

Stamped, heat embossed, watercolored with Distress ink mixed with Perfect Pearls
and water.  Maybe you can see that pearly glow better here.

Check out what my Zoom friends did with their pearls.

Thanks for the visit and special thanks for your comments.

Enjoy!

Happy Birthday Nancy

Hello there.  I'm so glad you stopped by.

Today we're celebrating the birthday of a very special friend,
Nancy Littrell (scandinancy creates) with a linky party.

A little printmaking with Magnolia Die-cuts and lots of water came together
in an artsy, Monet style background.  It made me thing of Nancy's wonderful artsy style.

Some vellum as the bottom layer of the butterfly softened the colors there.

I hope you have a wonderful birthday, my dear, sweet friend!

Thanks for the visit and special thanks for your comments.

Enjoy!

Bodacious Blessings

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I did a little Print Making while watercoloring this die cut.  The yellow is
much softer than it shows in the photo.  Sometimes.......

I'm coming late to the CAS(e) this Sketch challenge but I love this sketch and had to
squeeze in some time to play.  Then I veered from the sketch a bit. I hope not too much.

The colors were inspired by a new challenge
Yellow and green is one of my favorite color combinations.

Penny Black Saturday Challenge  has an option of your
favorite colors.  So I'll add this there too.

Thanks for the visit and special thanks for your comments.

Enjoy!
