Chilly and Freezy

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

Chilly and Freezy came to live with me last Christmas and got set aside
into my NBUS box where they waited patiently to come out to play.

I had these backgrounds left over from my Christmas card class and decided that these
fun characters would fit perfectly.

I've die cut and colored all the pieces with Copic markers then popped them on top
of the backgrounds that had been die cut.  We used a circle and brushed with ink for the sky.

On the second card, I stamped the "snow" with a Gorgeous Grunge stamp
and embossing ink, then embossed with white powder for a snowy look.

One more to use up the backgrounds.  This time I added a sleigh die that's been in my
collection for years.  I cut one layer from darker red and the top layer from bright red.

Challenges:
Christmas Kickstart - Christmassy
Jingle Belles - ATG Christmas
NBUS #57 - Never Before Used Schtuff

Layered Poinsettias

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

Here's a couple of cards using leftover kits from my last class with a little twist.
It's a great way to add to my Christmas card stash.

I turned this from a landscape to portrait orientation.  I had to cut one side of the label
and use a different sentiment.

It's hard to tell by the photo, but I've sponged ink along the edges of the colored
cardstock to add depth to the petals.

This one was cut from a piece of smooshed paper in my background stash with a little
sponging on the edges.

Here's a peek at the card we did in class.  It was a CASE of this card by my
talented friend, Michele.  Thank you for the inspiration always, my friend.

Can You Handle the Pressure - ATG with embossing/option Christmas
The Flower Challenge #87 - Use Gold (I have gold beads in the centers)

Shiny Bauble

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I've been so busy with classes and trying to finish up my Christmas cards that
I have neglected my blog.

That Color Hues challenge has been rolling around in my brain and I finally
took the time to use it for a card.

I found a piece of alcohol inked Yupo paper inked with red and gold that made
a good pairing with this NBUS ornament die.

There are gold lines in the bauble that were made by rubbing Deco Foil along
the sticky bits of the alcohol ink.  They don't want to show well in the photo.

Then I die cut some pine sprigs from gold foil cardstock and a few little dots from
the leftover piece of gold foil.

The sentiment was stamped and heat embossed.

I love how these colors show against a black background.

Challenges:
Color Hues #76 - Red & Metallic Gold
Double D - Stripes or Dots (gold dots)
NBUS #56 - Never Before Used Schtuff (Ornament Die)

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Merry Christmas (IO)
Ink:   Encore Gold
Paper:   Black, Gold Foil, Yupo
Other:  Alcohol Inks (Red Pepper, Gold Mixative), Gold Deco Foil, Fir Sprig die (SSS), Holiday Messages Ornament die (SSS)

Enjoy!

Merry Monday Sparkling Snowflake

It's Merry Monday time again.

Lesley is taking the month of July off, but the challenge goes on.  She has challenged us to use any of the past sketches and create at least 4 cards this month.

  1. Link up one per week OR MORE IF YOU WOULD LIKE!
  2. The linky will close on Sunday, July 29th at Noon.
  3. At the end of the month, I will choose 4 winners who will be Guest Designers at a future date.
This is the sketch I chose.

The snowflake is a sneak peek of a new Bigz Die from the upcoming Holiday Mini Catalog.  Oh, you won't believe all the beautiful items in this catalog!

I cut the snowflakes from Silver Glimmer Paper and adhered them together with Crystal Effects. And what do you think of the new Delicate Designs Embossing folder?  It looks like a row of snowflakes to me.

All supplies are Stampin' Up!

Card Recipe
Stamps:  More Merry Messages
Ink:  Encore Silver (retired)
Paper:  Whisper White, Brushed Silver, Silver Glimmer
Other:  Silver EP, Big Shot, Snow Flurry Bigz Die, Square Lattice EF, Delicate Designs EF

This is quick and easy and fairly flat.  I think it will mail well.

Come join us at Merry Monday  and get a head start on your Christmas cards.

Be sure to look at the cards the rest of the Design Team has come up with.  They are all fantastic.

What a quick and easy card!

Here's Lesley's sketch.

Be sure to check out the other designer's cards. They're awesome!

All supplies are Stampin' Up!

Musical Christmas

The last Jingle Belles challenge was

We're asking you to create a card (or gift card holder, or whatever else you'll be needing for the holidays) that incorporates music, that is inspired by a holiday song, or that includes a holiday song title.

After a lot of thought and inspiration from Alicia, this is what I came up with.

I stamped the Music Notes wheel in Whisper White on Island Indigo cardstock.  After it dried, I smacked it all over with VersaMark and clear embossed it.  Then I used the Apothecary Accents Framelits dies to cut out some shapes.  I rounded the squarish shape with my paper snips for this one.

It doesn't show up well, but the top of the ornament was punched with end of the Jewelry Tag punch from a scrap of shiny gold paper.  I don't remember what the paper came from, but it was from some package or other and thrown in the scrap bag for repurposing.  The gold cord around the middle is Christmas wrapping cord and it hangs from my last scrap of gold elastic cord that Stampin' Up! offered a couple of years ago.  I really wish they would bring back that cord. Sigh...

The Northern Flurry Embossing folder was perfect for the background since it left just enough space for the sentiment. And it can stand for the song Let it Snow. And Let There be Peace on Earth is one of my favorite songs.  I think the only recording I have of it is on a Christmas CD.

Fa-la-la-la-la! This is one musical Christmas card!

It's so much more fun to do these cards every week than doing a marathon in November and December.

All supplies are Stampin' Up! unless otherwise noted

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Music Notes, Four the Holidays (retired)
Ink:  Whisper White, Island Indigo, VersaMark
Paper:  Island Indigo, Whisper White
Other:  Northern Flurry EF, Apothecary Accents Framelit Die, White EP, Gold Cord (scrap bag)

My Holiday Mini came with my Stampin' Success today.  (A perk of being a demonstrator.)  Wow!  My list is growing every time I peek into those pages.  Christmas cards are going to be even more fun once I get my hands on some of these beauties!

Thanks so much for stopping by.

Enjoy!

Merry Monday Wreath

It's time for Merry Monday!  It doesn't seem possible that it's week 24!  That means that I have at least 24 Christmas cards in my box.  I'm looking forward to doing away with the mad rush to get cards done in December!

Here's my card this week.

This is Lesley's fantastic sketch.

Be sure to go see what the rest of the design team has done.  You'll be in for a treat!

I hope you'll be inspired to join in this challenge.

All supplies are Stampin' Up! unless otherwise noted

Stamps:  Holiday's and Wishes
Ink:  Cherry Cobbler
Paper:  Very Vanilla, Cherry Cobbler, DSP scraps
Other:  Wreath Die (Poppystamps), Square Lattice EF, Cherry Cobbler Seam Binding, Basic Rhinestones, Red Alcohol Marker

Yesterday I went to Roanoke Rapids to do a Stamp Stack with my stampin' friends there.  It's always such a treat to spend time with them.  When I got home, I was tired, but inspired!  I especially love it when they take my design and make it their own.  I get such good ideas that way!

I'm so glad you stopped by to take a look!  Thanks so much for your comments and encouragement.

Enjoy!

Merry Monday Snow Birdman

It's time for the Merry Monday challenge and Lesley gave us another great sketch....

I'd been waiting for a sketch where I could use this tall snowman with his bird friends.

I did a bit of coloring with markers and he was finished in a jiffy.

The snowflake was die cut with the Northern Frost Decorative strip die (retired).  I used some Multipurpose Adhesive Sheet, adhered to Whisper White, before cutting.  When I removed the liner on the other side, it was easy to get Dazzling Diamonds to stick to it.  A drop of Dazzling Details gave the center a bit of color.

Be sure to check out the other Design Team cards

And check out the wonderful gallery entries too.  It was really hard to pick a favorite last week, but such a treat to be on the design team and to enjoy all the entries.  Won't you join us this week?

All suppies are Stampin' Up!

Merry Monday Trimming the Tree

It's Merry Monday time.

Here's Lesley's sketch

Here's what I came up with.

I don't know why I'm compelled to color these silhouette stamps.  I guess it's the only way I can paint people and I can't seem to get them to look right as silhouettes. Maybe I need to re-ink my pads.  I think the new Stampin' Up! ink pads are going to be a big help with getting ink to cover a stamp.  I have the new In Color pads and let me tell you, there is a BIG difference!

I'm so excited to be on this talented design team...

All supplies are Stampin' Up! unless otherwise noted

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Welcome Christmas, To You and Yours (retired), Bells and Boughs
Ink:  Real Red, SU Markers (Real Red, Always Artichoke, Old Olive, Soft Suede, More Mustard, Garden Green, Bashful Blue, Midnight Muse, Sahara Sand, Blush Blossom)
Paper:  Sahara Sand, Real Red, Whisper White
Other:  2 1/2" Circle and 1" Circle Punches, Nestie, Snow Burst and Petals-a-Plenty EF

I hope you'll pop over to the Always Playing with Paper blog and we'd love for you to join us.

I'm so glad you stopped in to visit.  I hope you'll come again soon.

Enjoy!

We Three Kings

It's another Merry Monday on Friday here.  Lesley gave us another fantastic sketch

I was so inspired by my friend Colleen's beautiful neutral card.  Colleen is the Featured Designer this month.  My card doesn't have the elegance of Colleen's but I used one more thing from my UFO box.  That always makes me happy.

The card base is Very Vanilla.  It looks white in this picture.  The Brushed Gold looks best with the Vanilla I think.

The three kings are stamped with Encore Gold and heat embossed.  After cutting the design piece with the Ovals die, I used the VersaMarker around the edges and embossed that with gold too.  (I didn't do a very neat job with the Versamarker but it will have to do.) I added some Cherry Cobbler Dazzling Details to give it a bit of color.

All supplies are Stampin' Up!

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Holy Triptych (retired), Come to Bethlehem (soon to be retired)
Ink:  Encore Gold, VersaMarker
Paper:  Very Vanilla, Brushed Gold
Other:  Scallop Trim Border and Modern Label Punches, Big Shot, Square Lattice EF, Ovals Die, Cherry Cobbler Dazzling Details

This will be my last Friday post for Merry Monday as Lesley has invited me to be on the design team for this challenge.  I am so excited to be a part of this design team and love seeing my box of Christmas cards filling up.  Won't you join us?

Thanks so much for stopping by.

Another Merry Monday

I know.  It's Friday not Monday.  But I rarely get my Merry Monday card done and posted until Friday.

I finally bought Dasher and now he's slated for retirement.  I'm glad I got him though. He'll probably remain on my shelf for a long time.  SU's retirement plan and mine don't exactly coincide.

Sorry about the paint job.  I tried to remove a bit of color to add some texture.  I ended up giving him the mange look.

Then I added some of the Fine Supernova Chocolate glitter to his antlers.  I was hoping that would take the eye up and away from his body.  Did it work?

The background is stamped in Chocolate Chip with the Baroque Motifs flourish stamp.  It's been one of my favorites since it was introduced and I can't imagine doing without it.

I chose to use little labels made with the Scallop Trim Corner punch for the sentiment.  I hope it's OK to break away from the sketch a bit that way.  I'm never sure.

Finally, here's the sketch Lesley gave us this week.

I used the colors from the CAS challenge at SCS this week to use chocolate, green & white or ivory.

All supplies are Stampin' Up

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Dasher, Baroque Motifs, To You and Yours (retired)
Ink:  Chocolate Chip, SU Marker (Old Olive)
Paper:  Chocolate Chip, Old Olive, Whisper White, DSP
Other:  Fine Supernova Glitter, Old Olive ribbon (retired and my last scrap), Northern Flurry EF, Scallop Trim Corner Punch

Last, but certainly not least, Jack has discovered the toy box.  Anytime we're willing to hold his hands and let him walk where he wants, he heads there.  He keeps lifting his leg like he wants to climb in.  Oh my, that will come soon enough.

Thanks so much for the visit and have a wonderful weekend.

Enjoy!

Jolly Gingerbread

It's Merry Monday on Friday again on this blog. This is week 17 and I've participated in all but the first one.  I've even done more than one some weeks.  It's a wonderful way to get cards done and beat the December rush.  And each card is unique, thanks to these wonderful sketches.

Here's Lesley's sketch for this week.

I reminds me of a card that we did for one of my Christmas Stamp-a-stacks.  I changed it up just a bit, but kept the long, narrow card.

I scored some diamonds on the white panel behind the gingerbread men.  If you look really close you might see the lines.

The card measures 6 1/4" x 3 1/4" and fits in the small open end envelopes or in a regular check size envelope.

I've also just joined in the Christmas Challenge at Spiltcoaststampers.  I took a browse through the April gallery and there are some beautiful cards there.

All supplies are Stampin' Up! unless otherwise noted

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Jolly Bingo Bits, To You & Yours (retired)
Ink:  Chocolate Chip, SU Markers (Real Red, Chocolate Chip)
Paper:  Real Red, Whisper White, DSP (retired)
Other:  Simply Scored, 1" Circle and Scallop Edge Punches, Scallop Circle Die (Nestabilities)

Thanks for stopping by.  I hope you have a great weekend and get to do some stamping.

Enjoy!

Forever Stamp Christmas

When I saw the Jingle Belles challenge last weekend, Peace on EARTH(DAY), I had to scratch my head....several times.

The challenge is to create a holiday card which re-uses, re-purposes, re-cycles, up-cycles, or in some way "rescues" a bit of... well, SOMETHING... which you'd've either thrown away, or perhaps just overlooked in terms of card-making?

I finally thought about the extra piece on the Christmas stamp sheet.  I've used these before to make cards, since I hate to throw away the pretty images.  And as much as we pay for stamps, I feel I should use everything that comes with them!

I actually remembered to stamp the sentiment before I embossed.  I used my Stamp-a-majig for this since I wanted it on two lines instead of one.

After cutting the image and mounting it, I added some Dazzling Details to give it a frosty look.

All supplies are Stampin' Up unless otherwise noted

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Four the Holidays
Ink:  Chocolate Chip
Paper:  Whisper White, Green (from my scrap bag)
Other:  Big Shot, Houndstooth EF, Dazzling Details

Luke loves to play sword fight.  Jack loves to get a hold of a "sword" (foam cylinders from the packaging of our new waterheater) and swing it around too.  It's twice as big as he is, but he giggles and thinks he's big stuff.

Thanks so much for stopping by and especially for letting me know you've come.  I love your comments.  They help keep me inspired.

Enjoy!

More for Christmas

I have some more Christmas cards that I thought I'd share today.  These cards are for this week's Merry Monday challenge.  Here's the sketch that Lesley gave us...

This is the first card I did.

I kept trying different panels and couldn't be satisfied so I decided to use the Stripe Embossing Folder instead.  I couldn't get a good picture of them, but hopefully you can see the stripes.

The stamp is a bargain from a local craft store.  I stamped it 3 times in Always Artichoke.  The white gel pen added some snow to the branches.

The sky is sponged with Bashful Blue and Not Quite Navy and the birds are from the Up, Up and Away set.  In this picture the snow looks gray.  It's quite shimmery IRL, painted with Frost White Shimmer paint.  It's mounted on Naturals White which has a snowy look.

I wasn't sure if this would be too far from the sketch so I did another and spent far too much time on it and created an awful mess of glitter and Dazzling Diamonds.  LOL!   I'll sparkle for months!

This is true to the sketch.  I just hope all that sparkle is still on the card at Christmas.  To achieve that sparkly effect, I patted the whole design area with VersaMark and sprinkled with Dazzling Diamonds.  I had seen a similar technique by Cristina of the My Paper Secret blog.  She has a wonderful clean and simple style that is never boring.  I love visiting her blog for inspiration.

I found out that VersaMark is not exactly a glue pad.  Think I need to visit a craft store again and get a real glue pad so the glitter will stay put better!

I punched some little snowflakes from each panel with an old EK Success punch.  Then I changed my mind and decided to put the snowflakes back but with dimensionals.  I used the Northern Frost Sizzlit Decorative Strip for the larger snowflakes and cut them from Shimmery White and Night of Navy.  The Navy helps to show the snowflake up better.

Now I don't know which one to enter.  I love the simplicity of the first one, but the second is closer to the sketch. Decisions decisions.

All supplies are Stampin' Up! unless otherwise noted

Card Recipe (Card 1)
Stamps: Pines (Inkadinkadoo), Up, Up and Away
Ink:  Always Artichoke, Bashful Blue, Not Quite Navy, Early Espresso, Frost White Shimmer Paint
