Turning the Page February 2022

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

Time to turn the page on our calendars to a new month.

I make calendars each year for my desk and my family.

I thought I'd set up a regular post on the last day of each month to share them.

I hope you enjoy my “Turning the Page” posts.

Here's our February page using Wreath Whimsy by Penny Black.

By the way, the calendars are 4 ½ inches by 7 inches.

They can be clipped together and can be displayed on an easel or hung

on a push pin or magnetic hook.  We all have a different way to display them.

If you would like a word document with the calendar, email me (bonklass(at)gmail(dot)com.

and I will be glad to send it to you so you can design your own.

If your email address is not in your profile, I have no way to send this to you.

Email link is in my profile on the sidebar.

Floating Alcohol Ink Poinsettia

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

Recently I was the lucky winner of this gorgeous poinsettia die.
Thank you Michele.

So I was thinking poinsettia colors when our Zoom group was trying a

This technique is messy fun!

I filled a baby wipe container about 3/4 full of water, dropped in a
few drops of alcohol ink and dipped a piece of cardstock into it.

The red ink kind of clotted up and left behind some interesting splotches.

  • I found that some inks seemed to blend better than others.
  • Disposable gloves are a must.
  • Spreading a vinyl tablecloth on the counter was a good idea for catching spills and drying all those dipped pieces.
I went kind of crazy and probably will never use all those backgrounds!

This one found a good home though.

Challenges:
Rudolph Days - Anything Goes Christmas
ABC Christmas - A is for Anything Goes

Card Recipe
Stamps:
Ink:
Paper:   Neenah, Gold Foil, Coated
Other:  Alcohol Ink, Large Words EF (Kwan), Wonderful Words Die (PTI), Poinsettia 3D Die Set (Alt.)

Papillon Fun

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I love Eileen Godwin's work and was excited to see that she was doing a workshop
on Facebook.  I'm sad to say that I haven't seen all the videos yet, but I really
enjoyed the first few and wanted to give some of her techniques a try.

I did an alcohol ink background on Yupo, squeezed some alcohol lift solution on top,
and brayered it over the whole piece.  Then I laid a piece of cardstock on top and
brayeredover top to make sure I got good coverage.  When I pulled the cardstock up,
I had this lovely pastel background.

I stamped the piece with this NBUS butterfly stamp, then used a Lavinia stencil
on the opposite side keeping the inking light.

The sentiment stamp is from the set, and was inked lightly for a little extra interest.

I love this technique because I have trouble with smudging when I stamp
on Yupo or glossy paper.

I'm hoping to take the time to watch more of her videos from this workshop
and hopefully try more of her techniques.

On a different note....

I love snowy days!  Mainly because we don't get many of them.  I was excited
to look out Saturday morning and see this.

Challenges:
NBUS - Never Before Used Schtuff

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Papillon, Crazy Talk (TH)
Ink:   Versafine Onyx Black, Sahara Sand (SU), Tattered Rose (DI)
Paper:  Neenah, Yupo

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I have stamped and heat embossed this NBUS stamp in white on pink cardstock

monochromatic colors.

Then I thought maybe I should add some clear gems.

I'm not sure I like it better with the gems or without.
They're on there now though so they'll have to stay.

Snowy with Plaid

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I'm always excited when we get some snow.
We got sleet and freezing rain instead.  Fortunately we didn't get a lot
of freezing rain in our area.

Maybe next time we'll get some snow...enough to build a snowman.

Snowy always makes me smile!  I think he looks quite dashing with the plaid.

His scarf and hat are paper pieced and I've added some Flower Soft to
fluff up his hat brim and pom-pom.

Challenges:
Peace on Earth #8: Inspired by the plaid boots and snow people

Stamps:  Snowy, Festive Snippets (PB)
Ink:   Versafine Smokey Gray, Real Red
Paper:   Neenah, PP (SU)

Pure Iris

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

There's still some time to join in at CAS Mix Up.

My talented friend Jenny is hosting this watercolor challenge.

This time I inked the stamp and spritzed before I stamped. This technique doesn't
usually work well for me and I end up with a mess.  This time I seemed to get the
right amount of water.  I used a paintbrush to blend the color a bit and to pull the color
out of the lines.  In the end I inked the center with a marker and added a bit of
definition to the petals.

There are several ways to do loose watercolor and there are some
video tutorials at the challenge site as well as some awesome inspiration from
the Design Team.  And the gallery has lots of wonderful creations
 to inspire you.

I hope you'll join us at CAS Mix Up.

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Pure Iris, Special Sentiments (PB)
Ink:  Wilted Violet, Dusty Concord, Shabby Shutters, Rustic Wilderness (DI & DM), Concord Crush (sentiment-SU)
Paper:   Mixed Media (Strathmore), Neenah Solar White
Other:

Look for Wonder

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

The background was done with Pacific Point re-inker on acetate, spritzed with water
and pressed down.  A little different technique for a loose watercolor look.

After stamping I went over some spots with a Quickie Glue Pen and dropped
some fine Sweet Poppy Glitter over it!

A little random stamping of printing adds a little extra dimension to the background.

Sending Thanks

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I'm past due on getting thank you cards out for Christmas gifts.

Here's a few.

Using some embossed and lightly sanded foil with a Glimmered and Stenciled Butterfly.

Two from last year's January Calendar.

I stamped more flowers on the first one.  So glad I wrote down what I used!

I won two packages of Washi Taper from The Peace on Earth Challenge in November.
One package had this beautiful glittery Washi.  I used a NBUS sentiment set to
stamp, emboss and die cut the thanks.  A very sparkly & shiny card!

On a happy note, my friend Bobby Hagen and her hubby stopped by for lunch yesterday.
We had such a nice visit and chatted so much that we forgot to get a photo.
Hopefully we can get together again while they're in NC.

Loose Watercolor for CAS Mix Up

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

Happy New Year!

It's time for a new challenge at CAS Mix Up

My talented friend Jenny is hosting this month's watercolor challenge.

I used a NBUS background stamp inked with white and heat embossed on
mixed media paper.  When it had cooled, I used a large brush to add clean water
all over then dropped watercolor paint in pink, yellow and green.  Using a smaller
brush, I dabbed more ink into and around the flowers.  If the color was darker than I wanted,
I dabbed with a paper towel.  If it was too light, I added more color.

This is such a relaxing technique to me.  I hope it's one you will enjoy too.

And since this is a background stamp, I got a second card from the piece.

Jenny has added some great tutorials on the challenge site and the
fabulous Design Team as well as our Guest Designer, Karen (Random Reflections)
have some awesome inspiration for you.

Hope you'll join us at CAS Mix Up

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Wildflower Background (Taylored Expressions), Easy Expressions Original (Ton)
Ink:   Whisper White, VersaMark
Paper:   Mixed Media, Neenah Natural
Other:  Gansai Tambi (34 Dk. Pink, 42 Bright Yellow, 58 Evergreen), White EP, Gold EP, Easy Expressions Dies (Ton), Mini Slimline Double Stitch Rectangle Die (Kat Scrappiness)
