Creative Heat Embossed Backgrounds

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I'm excited to announce the beginning of a new blog!

It's an Advice Blog about favorite techniques and products for cardmakers from
seven wonderful friend.  For the past couple of years, each month our group has had
a Zoom call to try out new techniques (or revisit older techniques), as well as discuss art products.
It's been a lot of fun!  We continue to meet and want to share some of our
creations and findings with you.  We'll be posting our shares on the 28th of each month.

My first share is a CASE of our friend Jenny's card that inspired this technique.

You can find detailed instructions on the Group of Seven Cardmakers blog.

I used wadded up plastic wrap dipped in VersaMark ink and pounced on a piece of
black cardstock.  Both of my embossing powders have lots of sparkle and the snowflake
is cut from glitter paper.

I found the inking a bit too heavy for what I wanted so I tried something different.

This time I used white cardstock and tried splattering water then embossing.

Who would think that you could heat emboss with water?
It totally works!

The big splotch was where I splattered with a Tim Holt splatter brush.
It was a little heavy so I tried just flicking water off an acrylic block and sprinkling
with embossing powder to heat set.  That got the look I wanted.

I die cut this beautiful flower from watercolor paper and used the matching
3D Embossing Folder to add detail before I watercolored it and added it to the
embossed background.  The gold highlights were added to the flower with a gold
Gelli Pen.

I hope you'll check out Group of Seven Cardmakers and check out this
technique and the others on the sidebar.
I'm sure you'll be inspired.

Vintage Ephemera Bird

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I promised to be back soon with the bird from the Wplus9 Vintage Ephemera.
Here he is...

I've paired him with the Scripted Background stamp from the same company.
It's been inked with Bundled Sage DOX ink and spritzed before stamping.

The bird was inked with Distress Markers and the color moved around with a damp brush,
then fussy cut when dry.

I used the Eclipse Technique to cut a heart from the background and cut another
from a bit of foam.  Glued together and put back in, it gives added dimension.

Finally I added my favorite die cut pine boughs and a sentiment from another
Wplus9 set.

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Scripted Background (W9), Vintage Ephemera (W9), Flora & Fauna 3 (W9)
Ink:   Bundled Sage, Vintage Photo (DOX), Stormy Sky, Faded Jeans, Chipped Sapphire (DM), Rustic Wilderness, Pine Needles (DI), Night of Navy
Paper:   Mixed Media (Strathmore), Night of Navy
Other:   Botanicuts Pine Bough (Greetery), Heart Die (ret SU)

Flowers from Wplus9

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I'm still playing with new to me sets from Wplus9.
I have really enjoyed using them.

First up using the colors from Color Hues.

I stamped and embossed with gold onto mixed media paper and used
Distress Markers and my waterbrush to color.

The shine is amazing when the light hits it.
So hard to photograph!

Then I inked and embossed it with white embossing powder.
It's so hard to see where to color, but I enjoy the results.

Last but not least...

I inked and embossed the smaller flower stamp with the gold.
Love that little bee!

I'll be back with the bird from this set and the bird from another set too.

Golden Bells

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

Today I have a VERY shiny card!

I punched these bells from foil cardstock and embossed them with my
subtle embossing folder.  The bow was die cut from red foil.

With all that shine, I needed to heat emboss the sentiment and add some embossed
gold highlights to the wreath.

Getting a good photo was the hardest part!

Christmas Ornaments

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

Playing with a special stencil...

I used tape to block off areas that I didn't want inked (I'm very messy with my inking)
and did one color bow at a time.  I did the same thing for the ornaments.

The gold ornaments were inked with Encore Gold ink and heat embossed.
I added VersaMark through the stencil on the red ornament and bows.  Then I heat
embossed them with clear powder to get the shine.

The greenery was sponged through a stencil made with a die.

The design was matted on a piece of matte gold foil leaving a thin frame
then placed on a piece of embossed cardstock.

This is a large stencil so my card is an A7 sized.

Trilling Cardinal

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I especially love to see the cardinals in the trees this time of year
when the colors outside are gray.

He stands out so beautifully!

I've stamped this guy with Antique Linen Distress ink then added color with markers
on the stamp, moving the color with a damp waterbrush after each stamping.

My first try was a complete disaster.  I'm glad there are two sides to the paper.

This card is a combination of inspiration from

I used Chunky White Frantage heated from underneath for the snow.

I'm still hoping for some snow here.

Let it Snow

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

They say there were a few snowflakes the other night.
I'm sad I missed them, but it can snow in the craft room.

I used an old embossing folder with a new snowflake die.

The die set is two pieces and each has an inner cut that can pop out for
more stacking.

This time I cut from Champagne Foil.

I also cut from white cardstock and smooshed in some DOX inks.

The background for this card is stamped and heaty embossed for a tiny bit
of texture and added interest.

Birthday Balloons and Two Toned Flowers

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

After my holiday break I had trouble getting going.
Now I need to do some blog posts and catch up.

First up is a birthday card for the Double D Challenge.
It's hard to believe it's been 7 years!
Congratulations to Diane & Darlene and the entire Double D team.

The balloon bouquet in the inspiration photo made me think of all that
marbled paper I did years ago.

I did some stamping and embossing in gold and die cut gold strings.
(The photo makes the embossing look like dirt.)

and

Another for the Color Hues Challenge...

This came from my first attempt with these colors.  I had the brilliant idea to add some
gold embossing to the flowers on the pink embossing.

Well it wasn't such a good idea!

I cut off the offending part and tossed it down.  Fortunately it landed on top of the
white embossed piece and showed me what I needed to do.

I love it when that happens!

Gingerbread Snowflake

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

It's time to start on my Christmas card stash for this year.
I do enjoy making Christmas cards when I'm not in a rush.

I pulled out an older and well loved gingerbread boy stamp and die.

He was stamped on kraft cardstock with heat embossed "icing".

He's popped on an embossed snowflake and I thought it would be fun for him
to hold a candy cane.

While I had him out, I stamped and die cut another and added him to a snippet piece
of patterned paper.

This time I used my pinpoint snowflake plate for the background and
some tiny resin hearts for his buttons.

Challenges:
Peace on Earth #31 - I was inspired by the top left photo in the mood board.  See that little gingerbread man with his candy cane?

Blue Butterfly

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I LOVE these 3D embossing folders!

This is one that's on sale at Altenew and found it's way into my cart.
I'm so glad it did.

I wiped the inside of the folder with a wet babywipe before embossing and got
a nice deep impression.

I'm on my quest to use the beautiful nature sets from Wplus9 that I bought
last year.  Unfortunately I don't have the magic in my fingers or brushes that
Dawn has.  The butterflies from this set were pretty easy though.

I stamped with Versafine Onyx Black and embossed with clear embossing powder.

Coloring was done with Distress Markers.  When dry, I sprayed with Shimmering Bliss
spray that I bought years ago at a craft show.  This guy really shimmers when
the light hits him.

I used the smaller butterfly in the set on the inside and they are winging
their way to a dear friend who is dealing with health issues right now.

Challenges:
NBUS #46 (Never Before Used Schtuff) - Embossing Folder
