Singing Birds

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I'm sliding in at the last minute with this one.

Both of these dies are quite old.  I hope they are still available.  If not, I'm pretty sure
that Memory Box has something similar.  Their new Backyard Wren is high on my wish list
but for now these little gems will have to do.

The branch was cut from cardstock and colored with a Copic marker (branches) and
a sponge dauber with Distress Oxide ink (leaves).

The birds were cut from watercolor paper and colored with a damp waterbrush and ink squished
into the top of the inkpad.

I used the branch die to emboss the background and to finish it off, covered the birds with
sticky notes and splattered with some Brushed Corduroy re-inker and White Gouache.

I love this sentiment and think this card will go to a sweet friend who is going through
chemo.  She's a singer.

Challenges:

Ink Blending on Coloured Card

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

This month's zoom session was a fun one.

We stamped and embossed on colored cardstock and did some ink blending around the edges.
We started with a similar color as the cardstock and used darker shades toward the edge,
ending with black on the very edge.

My first attempt was a bust.  I'm not sure I can even salvage it.
But I was happy with this one.

I added a little bit of ink in the center of the flowers.

While I was at it...

I stamped this Penny Black stamp and embossed in white on a piece of Baja Breeze cardstock.

After brushing color around the edges and in the trees, I added some Chunky White Frantage
and heated from the back to add more snow.  A torn paper snowbank and little bird show
off the sentiment.

Then I did another and split it for two card fronts....

There was a spot that missed the stamping and embossing and some ugly splatter blotches
on this piece.   So I found a snippet of card and added a bit of ink left on my blending brush.
It made a perfect place to pop my die cut and bit of stamping for a sentiment.

Here's the second...

This time I used a strip of vellum and a foiled sentiment.

I hope you'll go to the Group of Seven Cardmakers website and check out
directions for doing this technique with a video tutorial.
And be sure to check out what the gals have done to inspire you and visit their
blogs to pick up any tips and tricks.

Painted Poppy

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I do love poppies and have quite a collection of poppy stamps and dies.
So when our craft group was trying to think of a subject for our swap this month,
I suggested poppies.  With Memorial Day coming up, it seemed fitting.

Then I had a problem of choosing which poppy stamp or die to use.

Altenew's Painted Poppy won, hands down!

I stamped and colored it in the traditional Memoria Day red poppy.

Then for my blue loving friends.

Finally in pink.  (The border is pink, but the camera seems to see red.)

I used Bristol paper for all of these.  It warped pretty bad.  I managed to get it flattened.
Note to self to used Mixed Media or Watercolor paper next time.

Snowy Scene and Peace

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

Another Christmas card for the stash.

This background was done with inky paper towel pressed onto cardstock.

The trees were die cut from smooshed sheets in my background box.

The snowman was die cut from a snippet of white cardstock and glittered up
with a very old bottle of Dazzling Diamonds.  In fact I glittered up the whole scene
with that glitter glue and it was the devil to get a decent photo!

How about a twofer...

No stamping on tis one, just dry embossing, die cutting and some more of that
ancient glitter glue, this time in gold.

The peace is cut from gold foil cardstock as well as the mat.

A Bevy of Butterflies

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I have two butterfly cards made for the Color Hues Challenge.

First up....

...a slimline card with a stamp that has been sitting in my NBUS box for
way too long!

I stamped all the butterflies with black ink and heat embossed with black powder.  Then I
used 4 shades of orange to color them.

I did some subtle background stamping with gray and orange inks before mounting
on a narrow black frame and onto a gray panel cut just a bit smaller than the base.

Next up...

Time totally got away from me a few weeks ago and by the time I had this card
finished the Color Hues Challenge #63 had been and gone.

Oh well, I have a card for my stash.

The background was done by inking and spritzing  a Penny Black floral stamp
then adding some subtle script stamp over that.

The butterfly was in my UFO box.  He was stamped, embossed and cut from vellum.
The color was added on the back of the vellum with alcohol ink then blended
around with some alcohol and an ink blower.

Hopefully I can get the orange butterflies posted in time.

Challenges:
Color Hues - Orange & Slate Grey
NBUS #50 - Never Before Used Schtuff (butterfly stamp)

Patchwork 3D Embossing Folder

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

Now that my May 3D embossing folder is on the way, it's past
time to have a play with last month's Patchwork embossing folder.

I love all the different designs in this folder!

I cut a half piece of Neenah Solar White cardstock and embossed.
Then I cut out the largest design in the middle and the different designs that
surrounded it.

For this card, I colored the largest section with detail brushes and ink, matted
it with a matching pink cardstock and mounted it onto an A2 embossed piece.

I used one of the side designs to add the sentiment to.

I used another of the edge patterns for the second card.  This time I colored another
piece from the edge and popped a die cut and colored flower behind.

Another Patterned Paper Butterfly

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

When I was making this card, I stamped this butterfly with black on another piece of
the same patterned paper.  Heat embossing made the black really intense!

I decided to set it off the edge of a watercolor piece from my background box.

I added the delicate Airy die cuts and a few black gems to jazz it up.
