Sweet Friendship

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I did some more strawberry cards while I had that die set out.

The strawberries were cut from mixed media paper and colored with Stampin' Up inkpads.
I smoosh the ink into the inside of the cover and pick up with my waterbrush.

I used a white gel pen to lighten the seeds and then topped them off with a
Neon Yellow Sharpie.

And one more....

This time I cut them from a light green cardstock and used blending brushes to
add color.  A touch with a barely damp waterbrush blends the color.

I've had this burlap die in my NBUS box for who knows how long!
It has finally made it's debut.

This sentiment stamp was inked with markers, huffed and thankfully
stamped well first try.

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

Back to my NBUS box for a Penny Black stamp and die.

Strawberries

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

It's strawberry season around here.  Fresh strawberries are always
welcome in our house and we've been eating a lot of them lately.

It reminded me of a die set that had been in my NBUS box for a couple of years.
My talented friend Leslie enabled me to buy this set when I saw
her strawberry card back in 2023.

I die cut from mixed media paper and watercolored using Stampin' Up ink pads.
I squished the color in the lid and picked it up with my waterbrush to color.

After it was dry, I used a white gel pen for the seeds and let that dry, then
touched it with a Neon Yellow Sharpie.

A little sponging with darker ink around the edges gave them some depth.

I had an embossed piece left from this card and used the same sketch.
This time I used a hexagon die cut instead of a circle and the vines instead of
that scallop strip.  I hope it's okay to take some liberties with the sketch.

Challenges:
Allsorts #822 - Inspired by a song (Strawberry Fields Forever by the Beatles)
I.D.E.A.S. - Week 1 ink (used as watercolor)
Inkspirational #340 - Seasonal (spring here)
NBUS #74 - Never Before Used Schtuff

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Happy Snippets (PB)
Ink:   Real Red, Cherry Cobbler, Gumball Green, Garden Green, Daffodil Delight (SU), Memento Tuxedo Black
Paper:  Mixed Media (Strathmore), Neenah Solar White
Other:  Strawberries dies (Elizabeth Crafts), Texture EF (PB), Stitched Hexagon Die (MB)

Enjoy!

Blue and Yellow Irises for Color Hues

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

It's time for a new challenge at Color Hues.

This time sweet Marcia chose these colors for us to use.

I think I got carried away from my usual CAS style.
Sometimes it's fun to try something different.

First I stamped the irises with Antique Linen Distress ink so I could see where I
wanted to color.  Then I used my Arteza markers to ink the blooms and stems and used
a damp waterbrush to pull the color into the flowers.  I used a combination of markers
direct to paper and swiped on a palette to add shading.

When the coloring was finished and dry, I die cut the piece and added it to a thin
border of yellow and placed on a piece of decorative paper with a light linen print.
You can see a bit of the pattern in the top left corner.

The thin frame was cut twice and I offset them for added interest.

Finally I added some watercolor to a scrap of mixed media and cut the butterflies.

My super talented teammates are sure to inspire you with their fantastic creations
and we are joined this month by my dear friend and equally talented, Nance.

I hope you'll check us out and join in at Color Hues.
The challenge ends May 14th at 9:00 AM EDT.

Card Recipe
Stamps:  PAF - Iris (Alt), Sentiment (?)
Ink:   Antique Linen, Memento Tuxedo Black
Paper: Mixed Media (Strathmore), Neenah Solar White, DSP, Daffodil Delight
Other:  Arteza Twi-markers (Periwinkle Blue, Sapphire Blue, Sapphire Yellow, Lemon Yellow, Latte Brown), Stitched Rectangle Die (SSS), Hexagon Frame (?), Butterflies dies (PB)

Enjoy!

Gilding Flakes with Group of Seven Cardmakers

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

This month the Group of Seven Cardmakers are focusing on gilding flakes on acetate.

Gilding flakes are not my favorite.  But this time I got better results than I usually do.  I think
it may be because I used my fingers to rub off the excess flakes instead of the scrubby thing.
It does have a nice shine to it.

I inked the stamp with some Flitter Glue and stamped it on a piece of acetate.
It's important to wash the glue off immediately.  I hope I got it all off.  I used a
toothbrush to get into the crannies.

The glue stays tacky so there isn't a big rush to get the gilding flakes on it.

My pot has some quite large flakes in it so I was able to cover the glue quickly.
When it was covered with flakes, I used my fingers to rub off the excess and a
Swifter to get the excess off the acetate.

Both sides look nice and in the video, it shows putting it over an aperture.
Instead I framed it and used foam tape to elevate it over a background piece
from my stash that was a Brusho mop up.  I should have done the aperture
because the foam tape has made it too thick to mail.

A word of warning when using gilding flakes.  Don't have a fan going in the room!
And have a vacuum handy!  Oh, and Brenda says not to cough.  I imagine sneezing
could cause all kinds of flakey fall out too.

There's a video on the Group of Seven post and my teamies have some
much better examples to inspire you.  There's a linky there too, if you want
to try gilding flakes on acetate and show us what you do.

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Soft Wings (PB)
Ink:
Paper:   Neenah Solar White, Acetate, Mixed Media
Other:  FlitterGlu (IndigoBlu), Gold Gilding Flakes ($ store), Stitched Rectangle & A2 Thin Frames dies (SSS), Burlap EF (HB)

Anchor Birthday

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

It's been a really busy week but I found a few minutes to make a card.

I used the sketch that Jen T. offered up at Freshly Made Sketches.
It's perfect for using some of that hoard of papers in my stash.

I'm afraid that nearly everything used on this card is no longer available.
But it's a great sketch to use up some of that paper.  I think I might make some more.

Love Those Pretty Papers - Use patterned paper (did not use the option of Springtime)
The Male Room #197 - Geometric (I have squares and diamonds)

Dreamy Wisteria

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

Sadly I needed another sympathy card.  It seems like I'm needing more
of these lately.  I have some in my stash, but this is for a very special person
and it warranted a special card made just for her.

I found the stenciled wisteria in my UFO box.  It was a past calendar page and
the coloring was a little too bright so I added a piece of vellum over top
and framed it.  It was impossible to get a good photo with the vellum.

The butterfly was in with the die and had been cut from a shimmery paper.

I wanted to leave the front uncluttered so I added the sentiment inside the card.

Challenges:
Memory Box #118 - Butterflies
Stencil Fun - ATG using stencils
Time Out #286 - Use at least 2 of the words in the prompt below (I used stencil and floral)

Card Recipe
Stamps:
Ink:   Wilted Violet, Shabby Shutters (DI)
Paper:   Neenah Solar White, Vellum
Other:  Wisteria Stencil (TCW), Notched Corner Frames (PFS), Subtle Texture EF (ret SU), Dreamy Butterfly (MB)

Enjoy!
