Turning the Page December 2022

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

Time to turn the page on our calendars to a new month.

I make calendars each year for my desk and my family.

I thought I'd set up a regular post on the last day of each month to share them.

I hope you enjoy my “Turning the Page” posts.

Here's our December page using a retired Christmas stamp and

 Forever Fern by Stampin' Up!

By the way, the calendars are 4 ½ inches by 7 inches.

They can be clipped together and can be displayed on an easel or hung

on a push pin or magnetic hook.  We all have a different way to display them.

Time to do a new calendar.

If you would like a word document with the calendar, email me (bonklass(at)gmail(dot)com.

and I will be glad to send it to you so you can design your own.

If your email address is not in your profile, I have no way to send this to you.

Email link is in my profile on the sidebar.

Enjoy!

Cone and Berry

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I hope my American friends had a wonderful Thanksgiving.
We had a lovely time together and the weather was beautiful.
I'll share some photos at the end of this post.

This card came together from some bits and pieces left over from other projects.

I love it when I can get these on a card instead of the UFO box (which is already almost full again).

It's pretty straight forward.  Stamp, stamp and add glitter for a little sparkle.

Challenges:
Penny Black Saturday - ATG/Option of Embellishment (glitter)

I thought I'd share some Thanksgiving pics.

First a view from my kitchen.

With my three girls.

And the grandchildren.

We all live fairly close to each other, but it's a rare and special time if we can
all be together.  (The guys were too busy watching and talking sports to join in
the picture taking and Giselle's mom is camera shy.)

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Christmas Story Background (PB), Cones & Berries (PB)
Ink:   Sahara Sand, Vintage Photo, Brushed Corduroy, Barn Door, Candied Apple (DM)
Paper:   Neenah Desert Storm, Neenah Solar White, Cherry Cobbler
Other: Stitched Circle Die (LI OOB), Circle Die (SSS), Glitter (Sweet Poppy)

Sparkling Snowflakes

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I have more cards made from projects I did using Vaseline on stamps.

For this technique, we spread a little Vaseline on a lid and picked up some with a piece
of foam to lightly cover the stamp or a stencil.  I used a background snowflake stamp here.

We stamped it down on a piece of Yupo paper then added 91% alcohol or blending
solution on top followed by drops of alcohol ink.  All the alcohol or blending solution
allowed me to use my Tim Holtz puffer to blow the ink around a bit.

When we were happy with the results, we wiped with a soft cloth and it
revealed the stamping.  The Vaseline had acted as a resist.

On this piece the color was so strong that I didn't think the snowflakes showed well.
So I put some alcohol on a paper towel and wiped the surface of the piece thinking
that I could just start over.  The snowflakes resist still showed up and gave me a
perfect background for some sparkly snowflakes.

Inspired by Friends

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

A while ago I posted some Christmas wreath cards using a sunflower stamp.
You can see that post here.

My friend Marcia had the stamp set (unfortunately it is retired) and took it
to our friend Michele's house for a play date.

Thank you for inviting me to play along.

I inked the wreath in some very old colors from Stampin' Up (Sage Shadow &
Handsome Hunter).  The inkpads aren't very juicy so the dark green didn't
overpower the sage.  I die cut the image and stamped a sentiment finishing up with
a piece of patterned paper from my stash.

This time I used Sage Shadow and Shaded Spruce. The darker color was a little
too dark and I feared I'd ruined it, but once it dried, it was passable.  I die cut it into a
stitched circle and mounted it on a Cherry Cobbler circle that was a bit bigger.
The embossed background was in my stash and a perfect fit.

Finally, I used the leftover from the die cut circle and embossed it to make
a frame for another wreath.  This one was inked with Mint Macaroon and Gumball Green.
I had this silver sparkle NOEL in my stash and cut a bow to match.  The dots on
the inner circle are from Nuvo Drops.

They always inspire me and very often cause a shopping spree with their gorgeous cards.
If you haven't already visited them, do go to see what my friends have done with this stamp set.
I can't wait to check them out myself!

Layered Poinsettias

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

A dear friend shared some of her poinsettia die cuts with me.

I had so much fun playing with them!

First up some metallic watercolor on this fantastic embossed background that the same
dear friend sent.  (I think this is my favorite of the bunch!)

Another die cut colored with metallic watercolor.
The entire front is embossed even though it doesn't look like it here.

This time I smooshed the flower layers in watered down Distress ink and placed
it on a die cut background that had been sitting in my stash for ages.

Had to have a red poinsettia!  This time I smooshed the layers in Festive Berries
and Candied Apple Distress inks and added some snowy splatters.

Thank you so much, my friend!  I have really enjoyed this lovely gift!

More Metallic Watercolor on Black

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I have two more cards from my Metallic Watercolor on Black play.

Both stamps are from an old Hero Arts set.

On my first try, I over splattered and it looked like garbage on both designs.

So I tried again.

This time I didn't add the third color of splatter and I liked it better.

I cut out the sprigs from the offending pieces and added on top of the second
pieces for dimension.

I added both designs to a piece of gold foil and heat embossed a little sentiment for each.

Two more for the Christmas stash.

It's almost time to get those Christmas cards ready to mail.
I'm so thankful for these Christmas challenges that keep my stash growing
throughout the year!

Deco Tree

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

Back to Christmas....

I love this graceful tree stamp and it's been sitting in my NBUS box for a year.
Time to try it out and I wasn't disappointed.

I stamped it on a piece of mixed media paper and watercolored it with Distress inks
and my waterbrush.  Then I used a wet on wet technique and Distress re-inker to give
the background a light wash.

The hard part is walking away and letting it dry!

Once dry, I used chunky white and chunky gold embossing powder and heated
from the back of the paper to keep it from flying off.

To make it even shinier, I edged the watercolor piece and the edges of the card base
with VersaMark and heat embossed those edges with gold.

Here's a view of all that shine.

Challenges:
Penny Black Saturday Challenge - ATG/Add Embellishments
NBUS #44 - Never Before Used Schtuff

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Deco Tree (PB), Christmas Sentiments (PB)
Ink:   Encore Gold, Evergreen Bough, Rustic Wilderness (DI), VersaMark
Paper:   Mixed Media (Strathmore), Gold Foil
Other:  Gold EP, Chunky Gold Frantage, Chunky White Frantage, WOS, Tumbled Glass re-inker

Enjoy!
