Turning the Page October 2021

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

Time to turn the page on our calendars to a new month.

I make calendars each year for my desk and my family.

I thought I'd set up a regular post on the last day of each month to share them.

I hope you enjoy my “Turning the Page” posts.

Here's our October page using Penny Black Singsong stamp.

By the way, the calendars are clipped together and can be displayed on an easel
or hung on a push pin or magnetic hook.  We all have a different way to display them.

If you would like a word document with the calendar, email me (bonklass(at)gmail(dot)com.
and I will be glad to send it to you so you can design your own.

If your email address is not in your profile, I have no way to send this to you.

Email link is in my profile on the sidebar.

Thanks for the visit and special thanks for your comments.

Enjoy!

Flying High for Penny Black

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I'm trying to work through my NBUS box that has become boxes!
I hit a triple with this card and used stamps from three different stamp
sets in my stamp box.  One I bought at least a year ago and the other two were
gifts from a sweet friend.

I've stamped the birdhouse in VersaFine Smokey Gray ink and heat embossed
with clear powder. Then I used Distress ink smooshed on my palette to
paint it up.

The foliage was inked with markers, spritzed and stamped.  I used non-NBUS
Nature's Silhouettes leaves for the upper leaves and NBUS Woodland Beauty for
the bottom foliage.

After I had done the wash, I stamped the birch tree with Archival Shadow Gray ink.

I should have done that BEFORE the wash.  I had to go over the white bark
with white gouache paint!  Oops.

I'm sliding into home plate at the last minute to enter the
So many awesome cards over there!

Dreamy Vellum for Krafty Chicks

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

Time for another challenge at Krafty Chicks.
It's the 5th week of the month so this week it's Anything Goes.

Yep.  Here's that Dreamy Butterfly again.
He does like to perch on a golden circle, it seems.

I'm Guest Designing again for Krafty Chicks.
It's been a fun month joining this fun team!  They have been so gracious!
A big thanks to all the team.

Since it's the fifth week of the month, the challenge is Anything Goes.

When we were playing with vellum at CAS Mix Up a couple month's ago,
I ran across this video and knew I wanted to try the technique.

It was so easy and fun!

I used Copic markers to color on my vellum then dipped a brush (designated
for alcohol) in 91% isopropyl alcohol to get the colors moving.

This is actually the top side of the color and you can see where I used
some Deco Foil rubbed on the sticky edges.

You can see the gold foil bits better in the next photo.

I die cut my favorite butterfly from a piece of Brusho colored
watercolor paper in my background stash, die cut a gold circle and embossed a sentiment
to finish off my design.

I hope you'll join us this week at Krafty Chicks with your Anything Goes cards.
And do check out all the awesome cards the Design Team has
to inspire you!

Echinacea

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I was so busy preparing for a class that I didn't have time to do many
challenges this month.  They are about to close so I'm sliding in at the last minute.
Sorry to bombard you all at one time.

Their inspiration prompt this month has my favorite summer flowers.

and I finally succumbed to my desire to subscribe to Altenew's Paint a Flower.
Being on sale gave me the push that I needed!

My first stamp set came late last week and I was determined to use it
sooner rather than later.

Now that the class is over and cleaned up, I could enjoy watercoloring
these sweet flowers.

I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed coloring them.

Christmas Kickstart wants funny Christmas cards.  I thought this upside down elf

Dainty Blossom and Butterfly

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I love these Glimmer butterflies from Pinkfresh Studios and they've been
sitting in my NBUS box far too long!

The Glimmer System uses heat and foil to letterpress designs.
This time I used mixed media paper so I could watercolor the butterflies.

I also watercolored these dainty die cuts and let the color run over onto
mixed media paper for the background.

Here's a closeup so you can see the shine. Or should I say the glare?

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I'm still enjoying Fall colors.  These leaves were cut from some bits and pieces of

Give Thanks with Glimmer

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

It's time for a new challenge at Krafty Chicks.

This week's challenge is All Occasions and I've done a Thanksgiving card.

I used my leaf Glimmer plate and gold foil on Mixed Media paper to get this row of
leaves ready to color.

To color, I used Distress Markers swiped on my palette picked up with
my waterbrush.

The die cut leaves have been embossed and shaped but the photo doesn't
show that very well.

I've used Gold foil as a thin mat and for the thin frame.  The sentiment is my favorite
for Thanksgiving and I'm sorry to say it's long been retired.

I hope you'll join us this week at Krafty Chicks with your cards
for Occasions.  And do check out all the awesome cards the Design Team has
to inspire you!

Challenges:
Krafty Chicks - All Occasions
Four Seasons - Anything Goes Fall ( such a beautiful gallery of Fall cards)

Card Recipe

Paper:   Mixed Media (Strathmore 400 series), Gold Foil (SU), Neenah Natural

Fall Wreath

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I found this wreath all stamped in my UFO box and I thought it would look good
in Fall colors.

I used my Caran d'ache Supracolor pencils to color and blended very lightly
with a damp waterbrush.

When it was dry, I dry embossed with woodgrain and added a butterfly die cut
from a piece of watercolor background.

The sentiment is heat embossed in gold and a thin gold frame finishes off
the design.

Here's a look at the shine...

Challenges:
Inspired By - Hello Fall (I've kind of combined the regular challenge with the wreath from the Christmas challenge. I hope I'm still within the guidelines.)
Memory Box - Stripes (Woodgrain Stripes)

Autumn Leaves

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I really love using Eileen Godwin's sponging technique and
since a sweet friend recently sent me a Stencil Buddy, I wanted to try doing
this with the rounded edge instead of the straight edge.

After getting the geometric sponging done, I laid the Tumbling Leaves Stencil
(also a gift from a sweet friend) over top and lightly sponging
through with the same colors.

I cut the piece with a stitched rectangle die and popped some watercolor
leaves that were all ready and waiting to find their way on a card.
(The leaves have been colored with re-inkers and lots of water.)

Challenges:
CAS Mix Up - Autumn Colors Watercolour
Just Us Girls - Color Week (Yellow, Red, Orange)
Seize the Birthday - Birthday card with Faux Stitching

Card Recipe
Stamps: Wreath for All Seasons (PTI)
Ink:   Chocolate Chip (SU), Mustard Seed, Peeled Paint, Rusty Hinge (DI)

Dreamy Bubble Butterfly

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I'm back as Guest Designer for the Krafty Chicks Challenge.
This week we're looking for your CAS (Clean And Simple) cards.

I am really enjoying this Dreamy Butterfly Die from Memory Box!

This time I've cut him from a piece of Bubble Background.

Jack & I put some water and a drop of dishwashing liquid in a cup, then used a straw
to blow bubbles.  When the bubbles rose, we dropped food coloring into them and
laid a piece of cardstock on the bubbles.  It was lots of fun and we had some
really pretty backgrounds.

I hope you'll join us at Krafty Chicks with your CAS cards.
And do check out all the awesome cards the Design Team has

Fall Leaf for CAS Mix Up Reminder

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

How are you?  Are you enjoying Fall weather?

There's still time to join in with Leslie's watercoloring challenge at

I've die cut this lovely stitched leaf from Arches cold press paper and wet it with
clean water.  Then I dopped some re-inker on it and let the color spread.  It gave it
such rich color!

I had a die cut square piece on the table and sponged a bit of color on it
and stamped with a splatter stamp.  The leaf was added over top with dimensionals.

The sentiment was stamped on a piece stitched die cut rectangle.

The card has lots of texture from the Tasteful Textile embossing that gives
the card a rustic feel with the emphasis on the bright maple leaf.

I hope you'll join us with your Autumn watercolors at
CAS Mix Up.  The Design Team and our fabulous Guest Designer, Ros
have lots of CAS inspiration for you.  The challenge closes on the 24th.

A head's up that there is a new challenge out there.
I have a link in the challenge list below.

Challenges:
AAA Cards CAS Game #198 - Up to One Third + optional Leaves
CAS Mix Up - Watercoloring Autumn Colors
