While I was having fun using salt with watercolors,
I wanted to try a technique I saw in this video.
I loved the results.
Let's see what you think.
Imagine this without the stems and outlines that I drew.
I used about 1/4 cup of water and a couple pinches of salt to add a wash to
my watercolor paper.
Then I dropped some watercolor onto the wet paper.
I didn't get quite the "explosion" that Teela got, but enough so it looked like flowers to me.
(I did blot the edges of the color bursts with a paper towel.)
I added stems with a paint brush and some more watercolor and
some definition to the flowers with a Copic Multiliner Pen.
Since the piece was too large for a CAS card,
I cut it in half and made a twofer.
The black dots on the second card were done by dipping a toothpick
in Black Nuvo drops.
Challenge is open until the 24th.
Lots more videos with salt techniques over there.
I hope you'll play along.
Thanks for the visit and special thanks for your comments.
Enjoy!

beautiful cards - i immediately thought of flowers when i saw one of the techniques in that video - no i'm really going to have give it a go!!
So enjoyed the video (link) and learnt lots. Such great techniques. I love the finished cards Bonnie, as when you cut the larger piece down it has produced unique and gorgeous CAS cards with a fun and a creative technique. Thank you for the inspiration x Really want to make time to try this out x
Two beauties, Bonnie - just love the flowers you created! I tried salt on watercolor & got nothing. Will have to watch a video to see where I erred... Anyway, love what you did!!
Hey, Bonnie. My friend Aussie aNNie sent me to your blog so I could admire and get some inspiration from you and your tutorials. I have been wanting to try the Distress Oxide Inks. I don't know if you've done any work with them.
These are so artsy and beautiful, Bonnie. And so creative and fun too! LOVE the red flowers and how they burst on the paper. Your scribbled outline and black dots bring them to life. Very cool, my friend. xx
Both your cards are so artsy and pretty, Bonnie. I love how you finished your one piece into 2 beautiful CAS designs. Very creative my friend. TFS Hugs

Amazing cards, Bonnie! Love the freehand look of them! I'm off to watch the video you linked to now to see if I'm brave enough to try it!
Beautiful poppie, I love the soft look and free flowing images. Great link to the video, so much information :)
I get the feeling that Blogland will be losing you one of these days, Bonnie, as you go fully into your new hobby of becoming an artist on canvas with gallery showings!! I'm very, very impressed!! Hugs, Darnell
What stunning work - and such a creative eye to see (and outline) flowers !! I would just see blobs of colour...
Blessings

Bonnie this is absolutely gorgeous -- when I say gorgeous I do mean gorgeous and I am not blowing smoke!!!
As I finish up with my 73rd year in this world, my body says - "we quit, you had better change your ways or else!" I cannot believe the multiple problems I am having at one time!!!! But I feel good and am very happy. Cataract surgery coming up - osteoporosis in both hips and spinal stenosis. A collapsing vertebra in my neck and because I have been so sedentary since we moved here, my legs do not want to perform as well. The icing on the cake? It now seems I have developed a heart problem. So now I see a cardiologist who I dearly love. Have to have more tests and wear a heart monitor for a while - don't know what they will do about that. It seems that I have premature ventricular contractions. But I feel great!!!!!
I hope you don't mind me putting all of this on your blog - All this to tell you that I am deleting most of the blogs I subscribe to but am keeping yours as I love your work. I will always be watching but I am not always going to comment. Limited time on the computer --- yada, yada, yada.
Once again Bonnie - this is gorgeous - a real beauty!!
Sandy xx
Watercolor loves you, Bonnie! Your watercolor cards are great! I love these flowers, they look like they have melted away creating this beautiful colored fog. I love this impression, it moves me into a completely different world. Thank you :-)

Wow! What gorgeous cards!! I love that sopft watercolour look and the vibrant red! So glad you played along at CAS Watercolour this week!
Just simply amazing....those watercolor splashes were definitely red flowers! Love this one too. TFS the video link, as I took a moment to go enjoy the techniques, and subscribed to this crafter! TFS and for a most enjoyable while enjoying your creativity and skill! Big hugs
Beautiful look to those flowers, Bonnie. I love the looseness to them and your line drawings work great. The fact that you got two cards from the panel is brilliant.
