More Birdies

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

When I made this card, I die cut a couple sets of birdies and they
needed a home.  So for some Friday fun,  I'm playing with these 'tweet' birdies.

Three found their way on this card.  I die cut the frame from patterned paper with
a very subtle pattern and popped that over some embossed leaves.

Two more found their way to welcome a new baby.  I rarely need a baby card, but
my daughters ask for one once in awhile.  That yellow cardstock was a gift from a
friend.  I love this light, bright shade and will be sad when it's all gone.  Fortunately
she gave me several 12 x 12 sheets.

Card Recipe (card 1)
Stamps:  Rosemal Reflections (Grtry)
Ink:  Versafine Onyx Black
Paper:  Neenah Solar White, DP (?)
Other:  Birdies die (SSS), Leafy EF (SB), Mini Slimline die (SSS)

Card Recipe (card 2)
Stamps:  Welcome Baby (?)
Ink:   Versafine Onyx Black
Paper:  Neenah Solar White, Yellow Texture (?), DP (?)

Three Birdies for Color Hues

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

It's time for another challenge from Color Hues!

This month Carol picked one of my favorite combination!  She chose....

My first thought was to go with bees.  But I'd done a bee recently.  Then I saw my
friend Leslie's adorable birdie card.  It sent me shopping immediately (thanks for the
enabling, my friend.  Like Leslie, I die cut the birds from patterned paper.

The dies cut six different birdies and I only used three here.  You'll be seeing
more of them pop up from time to time.  I had such a good time playing with them!

Now let's go and see what my talented friends and our
fantastic Guest Designers Barbara Campbell & Diana Karlova have done to inspire you.

I hope you'll create a card using Yellow & Black and add it to the gallery at

Challenge ends at 9:00 AM on June 29th.

The winners will be posted an hour before our next challenge and the overall
winner will have the opportunity to be a future Guest Designer.

Most importantly, just have fun!

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Nature's Dance (SB)
Ink:  Versafine Onyx Black
Paper: Neenah Solar White, Black, PP (?)
Other:  Birdies die (SSS), Leafy EF (SB), Nature's Dance die (SB), A2 Thin Frames die (SSS)

Deer to Me

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

Ooh, it's been hot.  The air conditioner is having trouble keeping the heat
at bay upstairs in my craft room.  But I managed to get a card done.

Michele's sketch at Freshly Made Sketches nearly stumped me.
I think I made it harder on myself because I needed to make an anniversary card
for my DH.  We have been married a l-o-n-g time and that anniversary is looming!

Here's the sketch

I remembered a pad of decorative paper that has some pretty scenes in it and looked
through to see if I could find one that would work.

It took a couple of tries, but I found one that worked and cut it up and rearranged it
to make some hills with a sunrise/sunset over the hills.

Then there was the problem of finding a die cut to go with it.  My only tree die
didn't work, but these deer did.  I had to do a little surgery on one of them as one is
supposed to be me and she deer don't have antlers.

Once I got the hills figured out the rest was easy.  A little sponging on the deer
was all that was needed.

In the end, I'm happy with the card and enjoyed the challenge.
Thanks, Michele!

Now I'd better get it over to Freshly Made Sketches before they lock the door.

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Bouquet of Thanks (SSS)
Ink:   Whisper White, Brushed Corduroy, Gathered Twigs (DOX)
Paper:   Thoughtful Journey DSP (SU), Natural (MFT)
Other:  Deer to Me dies (PTI), White EP

Enjoy!

CAS Christmas Birds

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I am so happy to see that my dear friend Loll has brought back the
CAS Christmas Challenge!

I was so excited that I made two cards with this new to me Alex Siberia set.

First up, I also used a NBUS Molded Frame embossing folder.

I die cut the bird and greenery from mixed media paper and used Distress Re-inkers
to color the bird and Twi-markers and my waterbrush for the greenery.
The berries were punched from a scrap of red cardstock.

This time I die cut the bird from Real Red cardstock and sponged a darker
red on the edges.  The leaves were colored with a sponge dauber and Distress Ink.

I die cut a label and used a pierced cover plate die with a frame to
mount this one.  Kind of the same but different and a good addition
to my Christmas stash.

Challenges:
ABC Christmas - J is for Just Enough (CAS)
NBUS #87 - Never Before Used Schtuff - Bird die

Card Recipe (card 1)
Stamps:  Sparkle & Shine (GKD)
Ink:   Real Red,
Paper:   Neensh Solar White, Real Red
Other:  Garden Tweets, Winter Foliage (AS),  Molded Frame EF (SB), Distress Re-inkers (Candied Apple, Barn Door, Fired Brick), Arteza Twi-markers (Sage Green, Olive Green, Pine Green, Moss Green)

Card Recipe (card 2)
Stamps:  Sparkle & Shine (GKD)
Ink:   Garden Green, Cherry Cobbler (SU), Bundled Sage, Rustic Wilderness (DI)
Paper:  Neenah Solar White, Real Red

Graduation

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

It's graduation time around here and our Luke is among the high school graduates.
Here's the card I did for him.

The graduation cap embellishment was included in a gift from a former
card maker who is no longer able to craft.  Knowing this graduation was
coming up, I set it aside.  His school colors are purple and gold so that
made the color choice easy.

I used a star die and a my sunburst card front die for a base and some
alphabet and number dies to complete the design.

Our next door neighbor is graduating too.  A friend had brought her graduation
cap embossing folder when she visited a while back and I used the cap sticker
from Luke's card to make a pattern so I could add one to this card too.

It seems like yesterday that these kids were babies!
The time has sure flown!

I hope you have a great weekend!

Enjoy!

I hope you're having a nice week and you're able to get some crafty time in.

Just Us Girls is have a die week and the theme is butterflies.  Ha! That's not a
problem for me.  The biggest problem is which of my sweet butterfly dies do I use!

I did a smooshed background, die cut some windows and die cut the butterflies
to go in the windows.  They are already in flight to someone who needs a lift.

Challenges:
Just Us Girls #826 - Use a butterfly die
I.D.E.A.S. - Die Cut week

Card Recipe

Daisy Chain

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I love daisies and remember that there was a meadow full of them behind
our house when I was a child.  We would pick the daisies and try to make
a chain from them...or a crown.

When I saw Karren's sketch at Freshly Made Sketches, those circles spoke daisies to me.

The daisy dies are unmarked in my collection so I don't know who to credit
them with.  I only used the two largest dies for this card.  They were cut from
Neenah Solar white and colored with Copic Sketch Markers.

I tried several colors for the background and settled on MFT's Natural.
(I am going to hate it when I run out of this cardstock!)

Looks like we have a ladybug infestation!

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Handwritten Borders (SSS)
Ink:   Versafine Onyx Black
Paper:   Neenah Solar White, Natural (MFT)
Other:  Daisies (?), Copics (Y15, Y17, Y18, C00), Burlap EF (HB)

Enjoy!

Bee Sweet

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

My flowers are blooming and I'm still waiting for the bees.
But the  bees are plentiful in the studio.

I had die cut the honeycomb for an earlier bee card and decided not to use it.

I stamped over top with an old wood mount stamp and placed a piece of
yellow smoosh from my backgrounds.

Every now and then I die cut and assemble bees and butterflies to have at
the ready for embellishments. I die cut the bees from Daffodil Delight cardstock
and color the stripes with a black Sharpie.  I love that the wings are
separate and add extra dimension.

Hope you have a sweet weekend!

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Sanded (ret SU)
Ink:   So Saffron, Whisper White, Mustard See (for sentiment(
Paper:  Neenah Solar White, Daffodil Delight
Other:  Hexagon Element die (SSS), Buzzing Bumblebees (MB), Black Sharpie, Sweet die (SSS)

Enjoy!

Fun Friday Bees

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

It's time for fun on Friday.  No challenges, just fun.

I am on a committee to support staff at a local elementary school.

I thought it would be fun to send them a card with a bookmark, hoping they
will have a chance to read for fun during the summer.

The image was stamped on a piece of cardstock with a punched top.
I heat embossed the stamping to get an nice shine.

A yellow Sharpie was handy so I colored the bee with that and blended
a bit of blue around him.  My ink blending is always splotchy so I stamped
some splatters to kind of cover that up.

Without the bookmark.

A little band holds the bookmark to the front of the card which had been
embossed with a new to me (on clearance) embossing folder.  I used my favorite
trick of patting with a white inkpad to highlight the raised design.

The message inside.

Our team supports four of the support staff that counsels, teaching remedial reading,
STEM & Speech therapy.  Each card is a bit different.

I patted the natural embossing with a pale yellow inkpad and it was too dark
and splotchy.  So I patted with the white inkpad over top and that toned it
down perfectly.

I hope you have some crafty fun today!

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Peeking Bee (Unity)
Ink:   Nocturne (VC), Whisper White, Soft Sky
Paper:  Neenah Solar White, Daffodil Delight
Other:  Clear EP, Yellow Sharpie, Bee-cause 3D EF (SB), Ornate Tag Topper Punch (ret SU)

Enjoy!

Fuchsia Note

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

What a glorious spring day as I write this!

This is not a flower that I'm very familiar with, but when I saw this
embossing folder, stencil combination, I was intrigued.

Then it was on sale and it caught me.

This was not my first try.

My first try almost convinced me to say no to
any more stencils!  I seem to have an issue lining them up whether I emboss
first of after coloring.

So I stood up to line the stencil on the embossed image.  It's still hard for me to
see, but it did line up better.

Will I be buying more embossing folder, stencil sets?  Maybe.

Will I be comfortable using stencils eventually?  Hopefully.

I used blending brushes and Distress inks for all the coloring.

I used the finer point of an Arteza Twi-marker for the stamens.

Challenges:
Just Us Girls #825 - ATG using a stencil
NBUS #87 - Never Before Used Schtuff
Stencil Fun - ATG using a stencil

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Wildflowers (W+9)
Ink:   Spun Sugar, Wilted Violet, Seedless Preserves, Shabby Shutters, Rustic Wilderness (DI), Soft Sky,  Blackberry Bliss
Paper:   BP Porcelain (SB), Neenah Solar White, Pink Pirouette
Other:  Layered Magical Fuchsia EF & Stencil (Alex Syberia/SB), Graceful Butterfly Die & EF (SSS), Ruffles & Dashes dies (CP), Arteza Twi-marker

Enjoy!
