Celebrate

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

Today is our country's 250th Birthday.

Happy Birthday America!

There will be lots of fireworks displays all over the country and I'm sure there
will be some firecrackers going off in our neighborhood too.

When I saw Judy's sketch at Freshly Made Sketches, I thought of firecrackers.
I don't have a die for that so I made my own from some paper scraps.  I found
a piece of patterned paper with fireworks in my stash and used it for the tips and
circle with the sentiment.  Some glitter glue brought in a bit of sparkle.  It's
old and kind of clumpy and I needed to rub most of it off, but
it did leave behind some sparkle.

These firecrackers won't cause any fires or scare any pets.  The best kind!

If you're in the US, Happy 4th of Julyl
Celebrate safely and stay cool.

Smile

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I took advantage of a sale at Alex Syberia and I'm having a ball playing with
the dies I bought.  I also had fun with a backplate that I won awhile back.

I die cut the flowers from some Hammermill cardstock.  It's very smooth
and works well for ink blending.

The Smile was cut from a scrap of pink cardstock that looked like it would go
with the inking.

Those little pollinators keep finding their way to my cards.  I wish they
would find my flowers.  (sigh)

I hope you have some creative fun this Friday!

Forgotten Favorites

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I'm so excited to be Guest Designing for Just Us Girls this month!

The first challenge this month is a die challenge.

I was recently looking through my dies for something and when I saw this die, it was a
surprise.  I'd forgotten all about it.  It did bring back fond memories but when I saw
the prompt for this challenge, I knew just what to go with.

I die cut the daisies from mixed media paper and watercolored with Distress re-inkers
used as watercolors.

This was so quick and easy.

I found another forgotten favorite die while I was looking.  It made for a less cheerful
card but one that is always good to have in the stash.

There again, super quick and easy!

I hope you have as much fun as I did finding some long forgotten dies and make
a card to share with Just Us Girls!  Be sure to go check out the wonderful
inspiration this fantastic theme has done for you.

Cream and Gold for Color Hues

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

It's time for another challenge at Color Hues.

This month Julie B. picked our colors.  She chose....

I used a piece of shimmery cream paper from my stash.  It's impossible
to get a good photo that shows the shimmery creaminess.

I used some brushed gold, also from my stash, for the stem and leaves.
Then I added some gold foil leaves to brighten the leaves up.

The background is Neenah Natural White that's been embossed
with more magnolias.

Now let's go and see what my talented friends have done to inspire you.

I hope you'll create a card using Cream and Gold and add it to the gallery at

Challenge ends at 9:00 AM on July 14th.

The winners will be posted an hour before our next challenge and the overall
winner will have the opportunity to be a future Guest Designer.

Most importantly, just have fun!

More Petals

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

When I posted the other card made with this set, I mentioned the tip Michele
gave me.  It was actually a link to a YouTube video that Therese did.
You can watch her video here.

The flowers were stenciled on mixed media paper then die cut.  By using mixed
media paper, I could blend the colors a bit with a damp waterbrush.

Ink:  Mustard Seed, Fossilized Amber, Picked Raspberry, Mowed Lawn, Rustic Wilderness (DI)

Wild Wood Thank You

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

It looks like it's going to be a hot week.  I'll be spending a lot of time in
the craft room trying to stay cool.

When I saw Amy's sketch at Freshly Made Sketches, I immediately though of the
wood slices from Papertrey Ink's Wild Wood set.  It was a perfect way to use
up some of those little scraps of cardstock left over from past projects.

It didn't take long to do a bit on inking on the flowers, leaves and wood slice.
Those little bees take more time, but they are so worth it.

Speaking of bees.  We still aren't seeing any bees on the lantana.  We've had a few
butterflies but no bees.  We're worried about what's happened to the bees!

Challenges:
Inkspirational #329 - Use Leftovers

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Bouquet of Thanks (MFT)
Ink:   Baked Brown Sugar
Paper: Neenah Natural, Scraps from scrap bag
Other:  Into the Blooms: Wild Wood, Burlap EF

Enjoy!

Petals

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I've had these Petal Perfection stencils and dies for a year now.  I used them once
for this card and always intended to play with them some more.

I really like how the stenciling goes to the edge of the dies!

I'm trying to work on my stenciling techniques.  I fear I still have a way to go, but
Michele's tip on using the Misti is a big help.  Now to get control of the coloring!

I used mixed media paper for these flowers and stenciled a set in yellow and one
in pink.  I used mixed media paper just in case the coloring didn't turn out so well.
Sometimes a damp brush works good to smooth the color.

I put a few of the flowers in a vase and mounted the bouquet on a piece of
embossed vellum that had been in the drawer waiting for just the right card.

Challenges:
Just Us Girls #828 - Mood Board Below (Flowers)

Seize the Birthday #328 - Use Acetate or Vellum (Vellum)

Christmas Postage

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I didn't get into the postage stamp craze.  I would have liked to but
I had just bought the Greetery Curio dies and couldn't justify it.

But my friend Nance got the postage stamp dies and stencils and was
nice enough to bring them to a couple of our playdates.

She had an extra gift set of these little poinsettias and shared them with me.
That was a year ago or two?

They got set aside and I found them last week.  They were a perfect fit for
Narelle's sketch at Freshly Made Sketches.

It's pretty self explanatory.  I used Encore gold for the centers and dots and
heat embossed with gold powder so they have some shine.  The sentiment
is gold embossed too.

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Easy Holiday Expressions (Ton)
Ink:   Encore Gold, Real Red, Garden Green
Paper:   Neenah Solar White
Other:  Postage Stamp & Poinsettia Stencil & die (Waffleflower), Easy Holiday Expressions die (Ton), Gold EP, Subtle EF (ret SU)

Enjoy!

More Birdies

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

When I made this card, I die cut a couple sets of birdies and they
needed a home.  So for some Friday fun,  I'm playing with these 'tweet' birdies.

Three found their way on this card.  I die cut the frame from patterned paper with
a very subtle pattern and popped that over some embossed leaves.

Two more found their way to welcome a new baby.  I rarely need a baby card, but
my daughters ask for one once in awhile.  That yellow cardstock was a gift from a
friend.  I love this light, bright shade and will be sad when it's all gone.  Fortunately
she gave me several 12 x 12 sheets.

Card Recipe (card 1)
Stamps:  Rosemal Reflections (Grtry)
Ink:  Versafine Onyx Black
Paper:  Neenah Solar White, DP (?)
Other:  Birdies die (SSS), Leafy EF (SB), Mini Slimline die (SSS)

Card Recipe (card 2)
Stamps:  Welcome Baby (?)
Ink:   Versafine Onyx Black
Paper:  Neenah Solar White, Yellow Texture (?), DP (?)
Other:  Birdies die (SSS), Square Peek-a-boo Window die (MFT)
