We have a new challenge at CAS Mix Up.
First, here's my card.
And the challenge
Warning: This can be addictive!
Nance Salkeld (Soul Stampin') and I did this technique
with the Retreaters (Loll, Christine, Nancy, Susan, Darnell & Trina).
We used an inexpensive pancake griddle as our heat source
but loosely followed Kia's explanation in this post.
She links to a video on Facebook.
We didn't have the best results with a heat tool
(mainly because of our impatience and an alternative heat source).
So we used the electric griddle as seen in this video.
We covered the whole griddle with craft mats and
used parchment paper on top.
We die cut some shapes and laid them on the parchment paper,
sprinkled a heavy layer of clear embossing powder on top,
covered it with a Corning lid and watched it melt.
When the embossing powder was in a puddle, we added colored
embossing powders and whatever else we could find that
would melt in it.
My chunky Frantage worked really well as well as fine and
chunky glitter. I even dropped some microbeads in a few pieces.
This butterfly used red WOW red embossing powder over the clear
with some fairly coarse glitter added to the puddle.
The background is a piece inked with thick rubber bands
and heat embossed with gold embossing powder.
It just cried out for a red butterfly for some reason.
There are video tutorials over at
CAS Mix Up
and super inspiration pieces from all our Design team
as well as our fabulous Guest Designer, Jane (Purplejet Loves Crafts).
Thanks for the visit and special thanks for your comments.
Enjoy!

Gorgeous heat embossed layering for your stunning red die cut butterfly, Bonnie. TFS your step by step details too. I know I commented, but I had to go back and take an appreciative look at your butterfly's ruby radiance ...again xx

That butterfly looks striking - I'll have to check out the video for this technique! Love the look of the rubber band background strip - almost has an Asian look to it! Spectacular card!
I recognized the rubber band background right away, Bonnie. It gives a rather oriental look to your card. There is so much texture and shine on that gorgeous butterfly. I'm now regretting that I didn't bring down from the lake an ancient electric fry pan to play with.
